Timelapse lawn renovation in a very sunny spot

- This lawn renovation includes scarifying heavily, aerating, overseeding and topdressing. The garden is in a very sunny area and based at a new build property which are renowned for having very poor, often stony and clay based soils.
3 weeks prior to the renovation, I came and applied some Roundup (Glyphosate) to kill off some pre-existing weeds and undesirable grass species. This is why you can see plenty of Brown areas on the lawn.
In this video, I mention using a Wolf Garten hand scarifying rake and also a compost spreader.
You can get the rake head here: amzn.to/3iReFMN and handle here: amzn.to/3tV9Jgr (these come with a 10-year warranty)
You can get the compost spreader here: www.gardenimpo... or available here on Amazon: amzn.to/4aJoKUX

I followed everyone of your steps on my lawn this year even got myself a compost spreader, great tool,I over seeded and top dressed on the 26th of March, I had no germination at all, then today when I came back home from work, I noticed a very light green haze over the lawn,,boom we have lift off lol, all the seed seems to have come up over night, I'm so pleased another couple of weeks and I just know it's gonna look the best it's ever looked, thanks so much for all your help through your videos
Same! I aerated, scarified, seeded and top-dressed on the 30th and the first green shoots appeared today after a sprinkle.
I'm absolutely BOWLED OVER! that's a great result for just 2 weeks! woohoo!
woohoo, that's BRILLIANT! so pleased to hear :)
Looks like a motorway opposite on sped up footage 😂 great job 👍🏻
It does! 😂 Lol. Cheers
Excellent job will turn out very nice a never great video 👍
Thanks 😊
good time lapse of the process but I tend to use a horticultural sand 70/30 split so I can level the area better,,provides a much better surface for mowing......but depends on the overall expectations of client....
True.. Thanks
Very helpful. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Have you considered using Depitox instead of glyphosate? Im guessing you have but glyphosate is better fir established weeds?
Hi.. I use depitox at times.. The roundup is handy as you can seed usually 2 to 3 weeks after usually
Hi I was wondering what type and make of compost do you use ?
Hi sure all details at lawnright.co.uk/compost thanks
Loved the background music. Great job on the lawns too.
Thanks Bob 😁. Bit of American blues
Shaun, is that Field Compost No 4?
Yes mate.. lawnright.co.uk/compost
Hi Shaun .. the weed killer you put on 3 weeks earlier, does that not affect the new seed like weedol does..
Hi, it was roundup (glyphosate), its a total kill.. kills everything it touches.. and the product breaks down and degrades in the soil after 2 weeks so you are supposed to be good to seed after 2 weeks.. although I usually wait 3 where I can
Cheers .. great job done
Well I never knew you were local 😂 Are you taking on new clients?
We are :). if you are local lol, but our renovation diary is full to the brim till autumn, however we can still come and do lawn treatments.. best thing is to get in touch via Facebook or text our number and Andrea will get back to you when she comes back from the coast this week :)
Should have used brown eyed girl music with the colour of that grass 😅😅
Yes! 😁😁😊😊😊😊
Hey buddy, another great vid, my fav lawn channel by far. Can you apply liquid seaweed to grass seed that's been put down and covered with a little soil/copost? Will it help germination or upset the balance?
Hi yes, all good with that 😊😊😊
Nice process, done my front lawn today, defo wanna get a roller instead of taking baby steps all over the lawn 😅
I'm all about making life easy 😁😁
Great Videos Shaun, loving your channel and your wit.
Find myself watching them from 2230 through to 23.59 as trouble and strife will be in bed, snoring🤣🤣
Really like the clear instructions and most of the music.
You and Robbie from Premier are the ones i watch, top tips!!
Kev
Ha ha.. Can't go upsetting the other half🤣.. Thanks for the kind words!
Field compost 4 is so expensive how on earth can you factor this in the price of a job. It’s extortionate for what it is.
I really like growmoor multipurpose compost from home bargains, in a purple bag.. It's probably my favourite usual brand besides field compost
Enjoy the video Shaun, what brand of compost do you use please and thanks
Hi please visit lawnright.co.uk/compost
Excellent job, Shaun... and what an awkward shaped lawn to have to deal with.
Thanks 😁
Look forward to seeing the results in a month or two.
Thanks.. I'll call by soon
Hi Shaun. It looks so much better already with your skills and enthusiasm. Great job indeed 👏
Thank you so much 😀
that's now a very good tried & tested procedure 👌 the dreaded new build the whole estate will need doing 😂
Omg.. I'd have to call the troops in for that 😂

Have a question if you don't mind. Got a lawn that's never been scarified with many weeds in it also. How to tackle it? Spray then scarify, or scarify then spray. Am just wondering with so much crap there how effective spray will be. Also I read about scarifying that it can spread weeds. But the lawn is bad enough already. What approach is best here?
Hi either is fine.. If you spray now give it 1 to 2 weeks before scarifying as this will have given the weedkiller plenty of time to get in and down to the roots
@@LawnRight thanks a lot
Nice one Sean, gives us something good to watch. I actually did mine and my neighbours yesterday, full renovation and level it off a bit. But the bloody wind is ridiculous, so i sheeted it up with some white fleece to help protect it a little?
I’m really considering killing my back lawn, is that chemical safe for dogs by any chance?
Cheers mate, James
Hi its supposed to be fine once dry.. Glyphosate is known for being quite toxic though.. But I've always advocated wisting 2 hours till any weedkiller is dry before allow g anyone back on a lawn.. Touch wood no issues in 25 years
@@LawnRight thanks mate, i haven’t delved into it as yet so I’ve no clue. But it’s always good to get a pro for a spot of advice. I’ll have a good read into it nonetheless.
First comment for the first time… good job well done
Yay! Thanks!
Question relating to an old video you did on clay lawns - what’s the best way to spread the powder form of gypsum on to an existing, recently aerated clay soil lawn? How frequently should it be done?
Hi, Ive not really experimented hugely with it for exact amounts.. I suppose it comes down to how bad the clay is... I would literally scatter. good handfuls everywhere.. or if unsure, do light doses every month and try to see if you notice improvements over the season
@@LawnRight Cheers! Love the channel by the way
Job 8/10, Music 1/10
Thanks.. I like a bit of blues sometimes but I realise it's not to everyone's taste.
I renovated my lawn last spring for the first time and it looked great afterwards. Now there is quite a lot of weed. If I light scarify, do I need to overseed again? Thank you in advance
You should b just fine if you go steady it'll usually all recover. If it was wholly a dwarf rye grass there's every chbac you'd need to overseed as it doesn't spread
@@LawnRight I used Westland multi-purpose lawn seeds. It doesn’t say on the box what type of seed it is. I’m not sure if it spread. Would you know please?
@@its_fab75 hi if its multipurpose it's most likely general amenity.. A bit of most things which is fine for most situations
@@LawnRight do you know if this kind of seed spread? If I light scarify, will I need to overseed. I don’t want to be left with a patchy lawn. But I don’t want to renovate it completely if this type of seeds spread.
Hi Shaun, how often would you use iron sulphate lawn tonic with seaweed extract?
Mainly just over winter for the iron. The seaweed can be applied very regularly
Shaun this is liquid mix?
@@ronaldmaxwell4579 hi I've only ever used powdered ferrous iorn sulphate mixed with water so not sure eon the liquid versions
@@LawnRight You would have laughed if you watched me mix the powdered ferrous iron sulphate that the genius at the garden center assured me was water soluble. I should have tested it first, but no...I put 12 liters of water in my Solo backpack sprayer and poured 2KG of the fine powder into the water. The powder turned into a rock hard blob almost immediately as it settled on the bottom of the sprayer. I couldn't chip it out and eventually took the ex-sprayer to the recycling center. That's when I bought the FlowZone. Now I test any powder going into the sprayer to make sure it really is soluble in water.
