During the 25 years I did medical transcription I encountered one case of leprosy. My boss was coding the chart, and she asked me, "Hey, what's Hansen's disease"" I told her, "Leprosy." The room got suddenly quiet, and someone said, "I didn't think people still got that."

Florida has the highest number of Leprosy in the U.S. and it's increasing. One reason it's, they require proof of citizenship for treatment so many people go untreated, and pass it on. Smart of Florida....

The agoraphobic guy 'slipping through the cracks'? Dude we don't and really shouldn't have something in place bothering people on the regular, even if it's just to make sure theyre alive. People have to take some steps for themselves to get help.

He probably did try to get help, or someone who cared about him tried to intervene, at some point. There aren’t “cracks in the system”; there is NO system, period! Broken, struggling people get passed around like hot potatoes as “inconvenient”. We treat people like objects to be used; if a person’s existence isn’t profitable, they are easily ignored. That’s just how it is. Blaming every struggling individual for their own miserable fate just makes it easier for us moderately profitable ones to sleep at night and tell ourselves it could never happen to us… 😕
