I sang with Moshe Oysher as a member of Samuel Sterner's choir at the Waldorf Astoria in honor of Yeshiva Rabbi Jacob Joseph's 50th anniversary. It is one of my proudest moments. I also sang with Leibele Waldman and the Malavsky Family, among others. I went on to become an amateur cantor myself. Oysher and Rosenblatt are my all-time favorites.
+Judy Freed, maybe that's the point? Even someone who has no ancestral connection to Judaism can recognize the beauty of a gifted cantor's voice? I for one think it takes character to see beauty in a culture other than one's own.
Dramatic and powerful voicing by a skilled actor and cantor -- and with guiding translation and commentary, this works and should be required by all schools trying to teach a diverse audience of students. This is what Judaism is, not the myth, the reality.
This is definitely Oysher. It is from the record Kol Nidrei Night with Moyshe Oysher. The narrator is Barry Gray a famous radio personality of the time. My father had the whole set of Oysher records and they are truly a treasure.
I never heard Moshe Oysher before, although I sang with many Cantors, and I am so happy to hear his wonderful voice. I did know of his sister, who sang professionally but I cannot remember her name.
I sang in the Henry Spector Choir in the 50's adn 60's and the commentor sounds very much like Rabbi Hecht ( the red-headed Rabbi of the shul on 53rd Street and Church Ave.
I was an agent in charge of finding entertainment for a fund raiser for Israel. I brought Marilyn Michaels to our Detroit area in about 1979. She performed at Ford Auditorium or at the Michigan Theater, I can't remember which. We became good friends during her stay here and although I never saw her again, she called and we spoke a few times. What a great talent she had. I was so glad when she married and had the life she dreamed of having. She led a lonely life before she married and wished nothing more than to settle down. I missed her and thought she would have gained more fame and fortune had she continued her career.
@@CarolYost Alter Yechiel Karniol was a cantor with a unique, intricate and sophisticated approach to this style of singing. Few cantors can mimic his phrasing. Oysher is able to capture spots of that unique flavor despite the size of his voice and the baritone like range.

His voice drills the walls of my soul.
I Don't think I can ever confuse Moishe Oysher with any other Cantor he was one of a kind!!!!!
What a family they all were great!!!!
I'm Black and Cuban and I find all of his music very beautiful.
+Julien Giacomo You are first & foremost a fellow human. The content of your character is what really counts and not what wraps the contents.

I’m Christian and I love Moshe Oysher’s singing.
His singing was so heartfelt! Such a lovely voice, and with great feeling!

That ain't Barry Gray, bud.
@@sdovas It most definitely is. Look up the record and you will see his name as the narrator.
You just don't hear davening like this anymore. People just won't sit for it. This is a dying art unfortunately.
I absolutely love his voice!

His sister was named Fraydele and she is the mother of the entertainer Marilyn Michaels.
Magnificent voice!! reminds me of when i was a boy learning from the chazzan in my shul

Steve Zarren I sang at the same temple on 53rd and church with oysher but with the Abraham Nadel choir.
It’s Barry Gray here, I believe.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
THIS IS GWELDIG
Yes Marily Michaels was the name I was thinking of. Although she would do impressons of Streisand and Garland, she had a wonderful voice herself.

Oysher sings Karniol.
It is a bit vulgar but the second and third phrases are Karniol.
What is that, pray tell?

I hate to say it, but this sounds more like Richard Tucker especially with the commentator at the beginning. Moishe doesn't sound like this.
Love his voice!!!
I think it does sound like Moshe. This announcer is on the CD.
