Those contemporary kitchens are very in in Europe but I prefer hardware and pendants, along with the recessed. Warms up the whole look and make it more like a home than a science lab or operating room
I don’t like cabinets without hardware. You end up breaking fingernails trying to figure out which way it opens, or the cabinets get all fingerprinted.

We’ve opted for the “no light fixtures” in both kitchen and bathrooms. We liked the simplicity of it and are in our 70s and didn’t want to be getting on ladders/steps tools to be cleaning them. LED bulbs mean they don’t have to be changed frequently.
I really don’t like the waterfall edges on the island or the counterts. But the slab of stone above the cabinets is tolerable. I have 10 foot ceilings and I could not afford to make Cabinets go all the way to the ceiling. Plus, I’m only 5 foot two.
i’ve got recessed lighting in my kitchen and i’m really happy with it. i’d never fo it in my living room though. that room needs all the mood options. also, i worry about clothes getting caught on those cabinet handles but i love the whole look and would get those cabinets.
We recently remodeled our kitchen, and the one thing I would recommend to everyone is a steam oven. It has literally changed or lives. Most used appliance in our kitchen.

I just finished my kitchen remodel this past May. I had my hood powder coated in yellow to match the wall paint and other yellow accents. I also went with a yellow quartzite countertop & backsplash. For lighting, I had sconces installed flanking the kitchen window above the sink and it looks fabulous. Still waiting for the etching work on some glass cabinet doors to be done (my glass artist for sick earlier this year mid-project) and then I will send photos to you.
Currently the kitchen section of my kitchen and dining combo has a hallway light in place that doesn't give good light off for working. I will soon be replacing that with a flat light that actually has more light in that area. (I did add under the cabinet lights when my remodel was finished.) My dining room has a light fixture that honestly hangs a bit too low. I like the look of that fixture, but may see if I can raise it a bit, so when I have the table moved to clean the floor I don't whack myself in the head.
Great video! We gutted our kitchen six years ago and we decided against any light fixtures hanging down. Our ceiling just has canned lighting and it makes the ceiling height seem much higher. We also had a hanging chandelier above our breakfast knook table and decided to change to a semi flush light fixture. It’s amazing how much higher the ceiling looks and that the whole area looks more spacious. We love quartzite but at the time we looked it was expensive and we didn’t really find anything we loved. We ended up going with a satin/leathered granite, so I’m glad to hear it’s the most durable! We love the one we found. The BEST thing we did was custom inset cabinets. I know I would now be disappointed in a kitchen that didn’t have them…..
I also did the canned recessed lighting and it fies make my small kitcgen look more spacious. And the durability of granite sold me. I’m a busy, klutzy gal and indestructible is best 😂
Kitchen designer here! Every single item on your list is spot on, I've designed with all of these elements recently. Some other things that are popular are panel ready appliances, butlers' pantries and tip-on (no handle) hardware, porcelain composite counters, smoked or reeded glass and slats everywhere
My house is 10 years old and has “no light fixtures.” I often just end up using the under counter lights, because they are so good. The recessed lighting is useful when a bright light is neede$ for a task, but those are on dimmers that are rarely turned up very high
I like slabs but I think waterfall edges are just overkill. I'm over bad hardware but I do love slim rail cabinets. I want slim and sleek in my kitchen and clear countertops (no clutter makes easy cleaning). Excellent job as always! 😍😊☺️🥰❤️🌴🌴🦩🥰❤️
I like handles period! I live in a Condo I hear my neighbor in his kitchen everyday he has no handles on kitchen cabinets!!! Please handles, knobs nice if you hav slow closing cabinets
I’d like.. and my husband and I have talked about this many times… our home is a 75 ranch where we have a separation between our livingroom and kitchen that contains a coat closet on one side.. facing the kitchen the fridge and a can closet.. we would love to have that removed .. and redesign the kitchen.. take the cabinets to the ceiling which are 8’.. and put an island in with bar stool seating on the living room side.. I’d want the microwave in the island facing the kitchen and cabinets as many as I could get in the rest of the island.. our home has no storage..we need to have some bids taken and design.. I have plenty ideas..

I do like the slabs, slates or backsplash done to the ceiling, it looks much better than a plain wall. We had in our old home, cabinets that were flat without hardware such as handles and I must admit I prefer the hardware such as a slim rail door handles with slow closing cabinets and drawers. Husband and I are only in 50s but we're exploring moving to single living home and renovating with wider hallways, door opening and kitchen space to accommodate for our later years (possible wheelchair, walker, etc. ) Im glad no fixtures is on trend. I felt bad that we didn't consider adding pendants during a kitchen refresh as we didn't want to deal with opening , patching , painting ceilings for wiring . Love quartzite but isnt it more pricey and higher maintenance than quartz? Im too practical to worry about stains from wine spills and sauces

I have two beautiful vintage chandeliers in my home; they really elevate the space but, are dust gatherers and entail quite a bit of effort to clean them. Love them but would not get one for my kitchen dispute wanting to for years.
I understand. I have large scale crystal chandeliers in my home. There is quite a bit of maintenance involved keeping them clean. However, many features and surfaces especially toward the upscale or luxury end require regular maintenance. As I’ve said in past videos, one must weigh their love for a feature or even a surface like marble against the care and maintenance to determine if it’s right for them. Sometimes it is and sometimes it is not. Everyone is different and whatever the end result is I think is fine.

A very good evening Garrett, Thank you for a very trendy kitchen vlog. I love love love it!!!! Quiet interesting and very exciting. Especially slab on the overhead cabinets, makes for sure the cleaning easy. The only place which needs a lot of time in maintenance is the kitchen, so putting a very wise head when designing it will save one a lot of time and energy. The very new modern builds here are seen only with recessed lighting in the kitchen also because the ceilings are way high than the usual standard here. We have waterfall edge on the island and I never thought of it a big deal but now when you are mentioning it, I am thinking oh yes it’s not seen in every apartment or the house🙃 We have a term break here. Our academic year is from January to December, and we have summer holidays in December. I think the only place where Christmas is in the summers 😍 You have a beautiful weekend and see you soon🥰🤗
I have beautiful, solid wood shaker cabinets with brushed nickel poles, but the surprise is on the inside. My carpenter installed easy clean square vinyl tiles in all of my shelving. Not only are they pretty and easy to clean, but the lighter tone surface makes it easier to find things in darker under counter spaces.
Unfortunately, my cooktop is in my island. I don’t want a huge vent hood taking up my air space. I was thinking of a cooktop with a downdraft vent with no vent hood so I can keep my line of sight open. Right now there’s a big 1970’s cabinet with a 1970’s vent hood coming out of it. With cabinets on the side. I want to get rid of them completely. I’ll loose some storage, but I’ll add it below when I increase the size of the island. Moving the cooktop is not an option. What do you suggest?

The metal vent hoods are about the only thing on this list I would even consider. It’s the only thing that would really fit into my house.
