This is an absolute benefit when using a Moka Pot! I have been using the Aeropress filters in my Moka Pot for nearly 2 weeks now. The coffee tastes better, has ZERO sediment, and the Moka Pot is even easier to clean. ALSO...as far as wastage is concerned, these Aeropress filters decompose very quickly in a compost bin or worked into the soil of a garden along with the used coffee grounds. All pros, no cons! Thank you for educating me about this filtering method in your previous video Matteo! You have improved my mornings!!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Happy I could help
In my experience, helps a lot when it comes to cleaning, coffee is quite clear and less of the powder texture. Thank you for sharing
Great video once again. I've been using filters on moka for a while, mostly for the extra clarity and consistency it offers. It's worth noting that you can reuse the same filter 3 times on the moka pot, and the filter is much smaller than the pour-over filters, so it's like 10 times more paper-efficient than pour-over; I don't think the ecological aspect of it is any sort of issue. I try using filters for espresso too, but there they become unusable after using them 2 times, due to the intense pressure.
I think this is a game changer for Moka - no more sediment in my cup. I actually place the paper filter under the Moka filter and gasket so that the paper doesn't get in the way of the rubber seal. Thanks for the video!
Also good your technique!
I also like a cleaner non-muddy coffee but I do no have round filters. I just cut the ordinary filters into rounds and chuck the leftover filter paper in the compost. The used coffee grounds as well as used filters also goes into the compost. Works for me.
For over a year..... try a 54mm puck screen on the bottom of the basket for a 3cup.
In a one cup moka, put it behind the filter and gasket.
For 6 cup 58mm puck screen in basket, ap 2:40 2:41
Genius! Amazing, I'm also using the puck screen, never tried to put it on the bottom. I only used to avoid fine to get fine particles in the cup. I'll definately try it! Thanks so much for the tip
Love this trick! Been using it for years.
One thing that I believe is also happening from an extraction standpoint is that the pressure increases, which also increases the temperature of the water going through the grounds.
I routinely see a higher output temp with my thermometer using this method rather than without it.
That is correct! That is another reason why you get more extraction. Thanks for sharing your insights!
Great video. I'm not 100% sold on the idea of AeroPress filters. I have a 4 cup Bialetti Venus and the AP filters are just slightly too big, that means having to trim them to size which is a PITA with 100 to do! Yes I could probably buy filters of the correct size (56mm I think) but I want to be sure I like the result first. The second problem I have found is that if I put the filter on the bottom of the Venus filter it goes right to the edges and that means you are getting a paper seal to the pot, not the correct rubber seal, this results in water / coffee spattering out from the seal over the stove. For me, the filter has to be placed on top of the coffee AND be of a size that they fit just inside the chamber so it doesn't mess with the seal. At the end of the day, moka pots have been used for 90 years or so without paper filters and I'm not sure that the extra hassle of using them is really worth it.
You don't need to trim them
I have the same Bialetti and I've been using the AP filters with no issues. I wet the filter and just place it on the metal screen. Wetting keeps it perfectly in place. The paper filter does not seem to affect the seal in any way.
I love your videos, also the tattoos on your fingers - BRAVO!
Hi David! Thank you very much 🙏
i have been doing this for a few years but use a mesh Aeropress filter, little more less clarity but works about the same :) always great video's!
Yes with the mesh filter, some fines can pass through but as you said works well too
Hi Matteo, do you also use the paper filter with the E&B Competition mesh filter?
Hi Matteo, can we use the inox steal filter used in coffee machine?
Hi Matteo do you recommend using aeropress filters in combination with the competition filter also?
I use regular coffee filters that i cut into quarters, then use the basket as a stencil and cut to size. Wetting the filter and putting overr the screen gives me excellent results
thanks for sharing method!
Cotton fabric can also be used.
What filter to use on a 9 cup Mokka pot?
How about using the metal aeropress filter?
I used a filter on the Brikka today and coffee came out a bit in the middle where upper and lower chamber meets, maybe I should close them a bit tighter?? The taste turned out to be better still, just wondered what went wrong 😅 thank you! And I find all of your Moka pot videos so much easier to understand but also very informative!!
Hi, I don't suggest paper filter on the Brikka actually because the paper generates even more pressure and could happen what happened to you. In the Brikka we have a higher pressure compared to the classic Express because of the valve on top of the chimney.
@@matteofromtheswamps thank you for replying!! I’m waiting on my e&b filter to arrive and will use that instead!
Thanks! What kind of grinder do you use there? That hand grinder.
I usually use the Comandante
Been doing this for sometime now. I reuse the filter. I wash it when I wash the Moka Pot, let it dry then use again. I've kept the same filter for well over a week. I have a one cup Moka, so I take the metal filter, draw around that onto the paper filter and then cut it out. Works a treat.
Also, If you run out of Aeropress filters, I get 10 one cup filters cutting up a No.4 pour over filter.
@Andy Gait I'm guessing you must be from Europe since you have a one cup Moka Pot. I respect that self control! I'm in the USA where we overindulge in just about everything. I have a six cup moka pot and have been considering getting a larger one!
@@krazmokramer Yeah, I'm in the UK. I use my Moka Pot as if it's an espresso machine. It's used to make a single shot. 9g fine(ish) grind & 55g water gives me a shot of about 35g. Perfect for my morning flat white.
@@krazmokramerlol, relatable ☕️ ☕️ ☕️
Matteo, would you use a paper filter with the E & B competion filter as well?
I would, even if E&B lab filter has small holes compared to a classic filter, with the paper filter you can achieve a cleaner cup
Your videos are very informative! What about filters for a 9-cup? These seem to be difficult to find. Any ideas?
Have you tried taking basket filters and cutting them to size?
Is the aeropressfilters better than the usual filtercoffefilters? I’m just cut these to my mokapot and that’s ok but if there is a possible improvement I’m there to try it!
Honestly I don't think so, but it might happen if the paper is low quality. if you get a different kind of good quality paper, it will definitely work well. Maybe you can get a different result in extraction and clarity.
i cuted v60 paper and try it in my moka lol it make huge bitternes
What do you think about using it in Mukka Express?
Interesting question. I haven't try it with the Mukka, but I would be careful because having the paper increase the pressure, and with the Mukka you already have the valve for the steam. I'm afraid it could generate even more pressure making a mess.
Would these filters fit perfectly in a 3 cup moka pot ?
Yes they do, this is what I use
@@matteofromtheswamps Thanks 🙂
I've used the filter with the Brikka...it doesn't work well. I find I get better results without the paper filter.
With the Brikka you don't need it. That Moka has already a valve to make more resistance.
I may not be doing the right thing… but from my experimentation I found out that using 2 filters gave me a better result…
And what grind size the coffe bro? I like to try using 2 filters but im afraid the coffe not go out smooth like ususally😅
@@ibnx5830 I always use a medium grind size.
Many people use double filter, even when they brew aeropress. I don't advice it becuase can create too much resistance. Now if you grind medium probably this resistance gives you the benefit of increasing contact time and that can balance your cup. So if it's good for you, don't change your method.
@hey you Amazing! I'm happy I could help. It means a lot
i tried brewing with paper filter but the coffee didn't come out.. the brikka got too hot and began smoking but still no coffee.. i didn't know what was wrong with it 😢
the second time i tried, the coffee began leaking on the sides.. what did i do wrong here? 😢
probably there was too much resistance in the coffee puck. Also the Brikka has two valves system. Already generates higher pressure. you should put coarser ground coffee. Just be careful
My 3cup moka method, 1 filter bottom , 2 filter on top using 6cup filter.. 😂
I did this. And, it worked really well. I loved how I got a clean cup. But, don’t do this if you put milk in the pot and sugar on top of the coffee. It won’t make it thru. Here is the video recipe I tried. Had to turn off the pot before it trips the safety valve. ua-cam.com/video/Eb0rsRoJCFU/v-deo.htmlsi=OzdrqlqoD-8KvxAJ
Nope I don't recommend adding a paper filter on a any moka pot, the mokapot is already dangerous as it is because of the pressure build up inside and adding another item to its already dangerous state is not recommended. if you don't like any particles in your coffee then use another way of brewing coffee like a drip method if you don't like particles in your cup.
The exact opposite happened to me when using the filter 🥲 what am I doing wrong?
Edit: I was putting the filter on the bottom & not the top!
The filter have go on the top otherwise you won’t get the filtration
