I hung with Mello, During the 80s before his death I will baby sit his son Chris for him to go on stage. I remember times he will sit and reminisce his calypso life. I'm very happy to see someone take the initiative to do his biography. But my favorite songs are "The Ice Man, and The Peddler. " Thank You Melo .Rest in Peace !!

Lord Melody (1926-1988). Three songs come to my mind when I think of him "Mama Look A Boo Boo" (1955) "Belmont Jackass" (1960) & "Shame & Scandal' (1962). Melody was not only a great calypsonian, but he left kaiso behind for New York City where he was under contract to Harry Belafonte for about a decade. His hit "Mas" (1965) won Panorama during this period. When he returns to Trinidad in the 1970s' the culture had shifted from authentic Calypso to the new unknown sound what we call Soca today. He was Master of Ceremonies for Kitchener's Revue tent.. He embraced Rastafarianism in the 70s' and his music was a combination of Reggae/Soca. One of his last big hits was "Brown Sugar" (1982). Melody succumbed to cancer in 1988. Mighty Sparrow paid rich tribute to Melody his rival/friend in 1989 with "Play One For Melo" - "Belafonte must give us an explanation/ Come out and say wjat happened to Melo's millions. Harry is a multi-millionaire New Yorker. Melo was a poor man and he died a pauper. Tell Harry for me, Lord Melody was calling he name all in the cemetery." - from his All in The Game (1989) album. It is my belief even though its been 30+ years since his demise, but like a lot of calypsonians (Sparrow included) Melody should be getting serious royalties for his contribution to the Calypso artform. Give the money to his family/ loved ones. Lady V yuh is a boss 😄 Keep up the good work!!!

When I was child everybody was singing, Mamma Look a Booboo. It was wildly popular. Especially after Belafonte did a cover version.
