Nice review thanks. As a lover of gothic architecture and a reader of the history of the cathedral builders as well as a lover of fantasy I'm really excited to read this. Seeing this vid makes me even more anxious to read it.
bridge4 ...a big part of the story is based on true historical events and people. i really loved this book. i felt like i lived in this time period when reading it.

I visited the cathedral in Koln Germany. I said exactly what you said. How does a human being actually build this? I was equally shocked to learn that the cathedral was built in 1200. Amazing
Excellent book I ever read.It tells us how the cathedral were built physically and mentally. Once I visited Lincoln cathedral 2011 it amazed me because I was never been to such a huge religious building at the very same day I thought of construction of it with very primitive tools and methods. Ellen,I love you.Your thinking very rational. After 1000 yrs we have come to your destination. The other important thing to stress is eternal bondage between religion and royalty. There coexistence and cooperation.
Nice video. I like the way you put it. No drama, straight talk! Watched your couple of videos already and I can feel that I will be able to trust your recommendations. Thanks :D
great review! just finished it, and its hard to describe but i find the writing-style amazingly easy to read, which really facilitates those sleepless nights of compulsive reading :) great book
+Histórias sem fim Thanks Historias. Good stuff! Lovely present for him to get you. Enjoy this rich world Ken Follett has created. Let me know how you get on with it.
If you like this book I would recommend the Heaven Tree Trilogy by Edith Pargeter, it is the only thing I've ever come across that comes close. The three books together are a bit shorter than this one book at 900 pages.
Awesome review! I am new to you channel and I’m glad I found it! I have been looking into Ken Follett’s works as of late. I absolutely love historical fiction as well as fantasy books.
What a great review of this book! I read Pillars of the Earth when I was about 12 at the recommendation of my mother and it remains one of my favorite books I've ever read all these years later. I've never read the sequel however, would you say it's on par with this one?
+DJ - Thank you DJ. You mother has good taste. Impressed you read it aged 12! The sequel isn't quite as good, it's close and is well worth reading as it's lovely existing in that world again. There is a third book, A Column of Fire is due out in September. By the way, we've created a Facebook GROUP where fellow imps hang out and chat about fantasy. You can also post things up for discussion. If you search for The Bottled Imp Fellowship, click on the Join button and I'll add you in.
Snap! I bought it for a friend once and she kept sending me postcards saying how much she was enjoying it. must have read it about 4 or 5 times now. Love it!
@@thebottledimp its based on true events of the authors family so its more historical. I have to say that book and pillars are two of my favorite life changing books
Correct Subasurf! It's the medieval setting that one strand of fantasy is based on that is captivating. Also, as a very thin connection to fantasy, one of the characters is suspected of being a witch who curses a few main characters at the start of the book.
@@thebottledimp yep, Jacks mother if I remember correctly but bk in the 12th century if a man mixed herbs or made ointments he was called an apothecary, if a woman did it she was called a witch!! Just in case you are not aware there are 2 more books in this series that is now called the 'Kingsbridge trilogy'. The sequel to Pillars is every bit as good and the third book is not far behind either.
+Lukas Sprehn Thanks for watching our review. We don't do clickbait titles and we're sorry if you thought that and feel mislead. A lot of fantasy is based on European medieval times and as such I personally love medieval fiction too. I do state it's not really fantasy but has a hint of fantasy as one of the characters is thought to be a witch as she curses some of the main characters and lives like a typical witch. Once again sorry for any misleading, it's not intentional. By the way, we've created a Facebook group, search for The Bottled Imp Fellowship, click the Join button, and we'll add you in. The Pillars of the Earth is far from a fantasy novel. Its more like a tacky mills & boon romance novel, sort of like 50 shades of grey meets Coronation Street mixed in with a episode of Grand Designs. lol
+Purefoldnz Thanks for watching Purefoldnz. Yeah, it's not really fantasy - one character is accused of being a witch - but I love this book. Interesting take on it you have!
There's actually a new three-part adventure video game about this book. Great hand-drawn art style and good voice acting as well.
Nice review thanks. As a lover of gothic architecture and a reader of the history of the cathedral builders as well as a lover of fantasy I'm really excited to read this. Seeing this vid makes me even more anxious to read it.

Great to find you. Like what you say. So thorough. I love this book. One of my top most favourite books of all time. 🌟🌟🌟

Another great review! I'll pick it up the next time I see it at the store.

Cool. We'll be posting a review of the sequel World Without End in January of next year.

Good stuff! Well put too! That's exactly the feeling reading The Pillars of the Earth. Onto the sequal for you...
Currently reading it, about 65% of the way through. It's been giving me some sleepless nights, because it's a really compulsive read!
+Wave Play
Yes, it'll do that!
Nice review :D My boyfriend got this book for me for my birthday and I plan to read it soon!

My favourite book for 20 years, the sequel World Without End, an even bigger book, is just as good. Absolutely phenomenal books.
Yep! One of my favourites!
i adore the series so i bought the books online yesterday... looking forward to read it😊
Brilliant review.
Thanks Yvonne! Glad you enjoyed it.

Great review I just did one and saw yours. Subscribed for more.
Thanks Rajathon. It's great book!
The Kingsbridge quadrilogy is better than every fantasy book series I've read with the exception of Lord of the Rings.
As well, one of my favorite books. I've lent it, sent it and recommended it several times.
Snap! I bought it for a friend once and she kept sending me postcards saying how much she was enjoying it. must have read it about 4 or 5 times now. Love it!
another main plot or characters of this story are the Hamlieghs and bishop walleran.
May you do a Rain of Gold review please!
Thanks for watching. I'll see what that's about. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@thebottledimp thank you! It's about mexican/latin culture but it is a really great book
Ah, cool. Fantasy setting?

Great book, but I'm not sure I would call it fantasy...
Agreed, it’s historical fiction, certainly not ‘Fantasy’.
All fiction is someone's fantasy.
Agree, with others it's not a fantasy book.
Historical fiction.
Brilliant!!!

Thank you.
There's no fantasy what so ever in the story.

when I seen the cover of this video I felt like I was touched by Satan ..... those eyes

I've the Evil Eye!
Did you even read the book?
No evil characters you say. Read it again. And you missed the villains pov.
Its historical fiction not a fantasy book, theres absolutely no fantasy in this book
Correct. One of the characters is accused of being a witch.

tacky? how so? if this book doesn't please, there's nothing that will
Oh its very tacky like a soap opera for most parts. Have you even read it?
Pillars of Earth and World Without End are two of favorite books ever.
If you like mills and Boon and soap opera type novels more power to you.
