"Misery Never Forgets" is great example of screamo-skramz-whatever revival and one of the best in the genre. Scramz itself is joking title for more underground screamo scene, and I call this album genre as "skramz core" because of lot of breakdowns - which I loved! If someone wants to make a skramz music, I would recommend them to use it as the reference. Thanks the band for doing this and giving me old familliar vibes in the fresh package!My favourite things: 1) Catchy Songwriting. Some bands just throw randomly atonal riffs, but here they all have memorable patterns. On this record we have breakdowns, Botch/Norma Jean-matchore-riffing, Orchid melodic guitar octaves, metalcore melodic chords and clean guitars - and they are well connected and paced. Band has more different types of riffage now, but this is my favourite record from them - just 20 minute short record with nothing but skramz-core vibes. Pacing of record is also great - you have short songs, ambient interlude in the middle, long clean parts - you can have a 20 minute ride, and also listen to songs separately on repeat. 2) Modern Production - old skramz has many good songs and ideas, but it has simplier recordings of 90's and 00's underground. Some new bands also head for the simplier basement-demo recordings, like bands previous releases. It has it's own fun, but this production captures skramz energy with modern approach, and it sounds punchy, solid, clean and precise which gives it more power. 3) Introspective lyrics. It's about trust and loalty ("When I've lost it all, I'll still have you to lose, I'll have you to choose, if I suffer or live forever"), self-growth ("Trivial anxieties chip away"), inner turmoils, untamed fate changing life ("We shattered like porcelain, Our future dead and vacant"), passing of time, end of different things. "Nothing Lasts Forever" line from 4-th song hits hard. 4) Artwork - It's freaking Chris Taylor (Pg.99) artwork on the record with breakdowns in drop C# tunings, so skramz-core is officially cannon! It also has a knife here, so it looks violent and bloody. Chris Taylor likes to draw this zombie thing with sharp teeths since Pg.99 (one of my favourite bands in the skramz). Chris said he saw the Document#8 zombie people and vampire story from In Love With An Apparition in his sleep. Awesome to see him blessing another skramz masterpiece made by younger generation with great artcover. All hail the scramz-core!
