George Michael is an excellent songwriter. He doesn't get enough credit for his incredible lyrics. He is such a good singer that people forget he wrote and produced some truly excellent songs.
George Michael won 6 Ivor Novello songwriting awards. One of the most prestigious award for songwriters in the world. He was the youngest person in music to win this award. He also remains the only individual songwriter ever to win their prestigious songwriter of the year award 3 times. He is a very honored songwriter. I think ,many just aren’t aware.
Basically, George is saying we have surrendered our humanity to capitalism. And we do everything in our power to refuse to entertain the real truth by making excuses and making token gestures. He was, and is, absolutely spot on.
The more I hear of George Michael, the more I think that he may have been the very best song-writer/singer I ever heard. I know it's a big claim ... but seriously his voice was perfect and his lyrics seem more relevant by the year.
This song also came out in a time when the Cold War was ending and the gulf war was happening and there was so much uncertainty in the world and society, I believe George was pleading for kindness within humanity.
What I've learned about George Michael after his death is that he quietly, anonymously gave much of his money away during his life and during his career.
That's all anyone needs to know. I hope he's remembered for his words, his music, his heart. Not what the rags had to say. We all make mistakes. He was never allowed to.
This song reached USA Billboard HOT 100 NO.1 late 1990, it was the retorn of George Michael after his smash Album "Faith" breacking any stereotype back in the day without any Video with his face or figure.
This song wasn't on the radio. I heard it by mistake in 2000. I've been in love w/it since. I get stuck every time I hear it. So powerful, scary, provocative & sad. This song was true then & especially now. The same bs. "He must have let us all out to play. Turned his back & all God's children crept out the back door". Wow...I get chills every time I hear that.
I've never heard this song before. The lyrics are so meaningful and show such great insight, it makes me respect George even more than I already did. Sadly, I think his words are even more relevant today than they were back then. As we face the greatest crises in human history, too many of us seem intent on tearing ourselves apart when the only hope for us is to come together.
It’s been ages since I’ve listened to this one and I’m glad I’ve started the day with it. This George Michael list has been fantastic, thanks to the list-maker! ❤
Such a haunting song. No wonder it was drawing you into it's depths. Lol. Such a simple message but so massive at the same time. Also the simplistic visuals really hit it home. George at his best. Not gonna sugar coat it, but much of the world sucks ass and most probably always will. Something like that anyway. 😶 Good job fella's. 😍
Oh I do hope so - it’s one of my favourite performances of George’s - every song he sings is absolute perfection. I especially love his cover of I Can’t Make You Love Me - I get goosebumps/tears every time.
Song and video was heavily inspired by Prince's Sign of the Times. Listen without prejudice was at a time George had had enough of the spotlight and attention, so didn't actually appear in the videos of the singles or even the album cover itself. It was his escape from being a teen idol to an actual serious artist. And he mastered it. Absolute legend!
PLIS Reaction Spanish Song. Cristian Castro: volver amar & azul. Luis Miguel: incondicional chayanne: tu te vas & torero. Paulina rubio: ni una sola palabra. La quinta estacion. Jesse & joy. Ha ash

Certainly one of the best songs ever written. It is pure and utter genius.

His best song
This song reflects the humanity of the past, present, and future. Nothing changes so much. It will resonate with people 100 years from now.
Timeless message.

I might pop up with a George Michael Week 3 one day, live ones/lesser known hits ;-)
I'm doing a Wham! Week and a deep cut week. Should just do his entire catalogue. 😂
Nice to listen to guys my age with a solid head on their shoulders. Uncorrupted folks. Also, daytime TV used to be wild!
This song was a success in Europe. Such a MASTERPIECE ❤❤❤

This song and its lyrics are so relevant today
George was one of the greats
The greatest song ever written.
If you want to see him perform live, you have to choose songs from the MTV Unplugged concert.
That's coming, I promise.

We need another George Michael week
