You can open up the air band frequency range in the programming software for many of the old uv5r versions. They have always been able to show they are on those frequencies but if they aren't completely deaf on them they don't do AM anyway. So totally useless either way. Its interesting they finally decided to try and let it do AM. I have heard from many people that the air band receive on the uv5rm is basically the same as its always been. Terrible and it just doesn't work still
@@takeapart ah so they must have finally fixed it since the early versions of the UV 5rm. It's crazy that all of the cheaper Chinese radios now with airband all initially release being trash on AM. Like the Quenshangs needing firmware updates after you get them lol. These companies need to get it together!
@@takeapart IF you are a manufacture or handy it no big deal to change out "a lot of parts" search for say UV-mod and you will see that a regular UV-5R is able to recive on those freq. also. But sure the quality is not to have very big hope on
@@takeapart well UV-k5 and UV-K5(8)/UV-K6 should not be able to demodulate AM but some people have done some magic touches on the firmware so you could still demodulate it and hear it. And as I have understand it all devices in the UV-series is more or less the same. So if you want to look in to this hobby a bit deeper I would really recommend to search UV-mod or "UV firmware hack" or similar :)

this new UV-5R is receiving AM modulation, reception is nice and clear! not like FM

3:20 is not a shield it is instantaneous heat absorber. To soften the heat spike.
aha … thanks for your input
Thanks for sharing this with us I bought the uv5 rh , so Im going to buy the uv5rm, thanks again Alan from ENGLAND 👍
Hi Alan! you will like the RM ! it is perfect…. but this new R with airband is definitely hit in right direction. it is also great
Przywróć ustawienia fabryczne i oba będą odbierać samoloty 😂😂😂
nope
Porque algunos uv-5r tiene un procesador con más pines
aha! it explains a lot
I bought the UV-5RH and what a load of crap. Can't do anything with it.
what do you mean? it is fairly great… at least my one
Careful ,alot of bootlegs out there
yes ! some even claims to have AM modulation , but they receive only FM !
LoL somebody have change firmware so it support Airband LoL and just removed/replaced some components.
I don’t think so… changes are there … lots of components are different

@Dynamit008 issue is modulation… on FM modulation you can’t properly hear airband !
