This video really helped me. I'm a decent bodysurfer, but my local break is usually a waist deep sand bottom so I usually don't need fins. I took a pair of fins out for the first time ever when it got big a couple weeks ago. I had always heard the swimming advice to "kick from your hips" which as you explain is dead wrong for fins and I actually ended up hurting the outside muscles of my foot because of the strain it exerted. Part of it is my ankles are really inflexible so even more need for the added support of the knees. Once I'm all healed up I know what to do next time and I've noticed how much more power and efficiency I can get with this technique barefoot as well. Seems like the only video out there explaining it, thanks a lot
Paddling is okay, my problem is timing lol, when do we start kicking to catch the wave? I feel like I am probably starting too late, I have a hard time getting into waves
thanks for this! I’m new to fins, and it seems like the added buoyancy’s making it harder for me to keep my feet more beneath the surface. any tips? is this a positioning thing on the surfcraft (I’ve tried fins with a paipo, sponge, & mat one time apiece so far), and/or a kicking technique? thanks in advance for any insight.
Stretching your calves before paddling out. Strengthening your calves when not bodyboarding with exercise specific to that. Plenty of potassium in the diet.
Same issue here. I believe it can be often dealt with by eating bananas and/or taking supplements (electrolytes). And the stretching is always good. In my case, im 48 years old, i have to prepare weeks ahead. I don't live in a place where i can bodyboard to i only do this on holidays. At least 6 weeks prior i start preparing things. My fitness is not the issue, i use a bicycle every day for almost everything because we dont own a car.

@@eBodyboardingcom thank you 🙏🏼
Turn to Jesus before it’s too late you never know when it’s your last breath
nice video. Yeah, and the up stroke does not have much push near the surface, You get more from the down.
Love these vids! What fins you you rocking Jay?
I wear Tribe T1 fins. I have very wide feet, and those fit my feet perfectly!
@@eBodyboardingcom oh nice I have wide feet too. Think you could do a vid on using your fins on the wave? Control/speed?
@@mjaynz Good idea.

Make sure your board isn't too long for your height. If it is, you'll have a tough time bending at the waist enough to keep your fins under water.
Any tips of stopping calf cramps? 😫 I get brutal cramps
