  • NORTH YORK MOORS WALK FEATURING HUTTON-LE-HOLE AND LASTINGHAM
    "Hollow of Hutton”
    Filmed 4th October 2016
    Post-production completed 7th January 2017
Hutton-le-Hole in the North York Moors is one of the prettiest villages I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. I explore this wonderful location then enjoy a walk to the nearby village of Lastingham with a superb local inn, which turns out to be my favourite pub I have so far visited in the North York Moors…..
Filmed in the North York Moors in the county of North Yorkshire. Locations include Hutton-le-Hole, Lastingham and Spaunton.
Written, researched, directed, camera and sound, edited and music by Patrick Leach.
Any other names credited in this film, i.e. Bob Morgan and Martin Roy, are pseudonyms, which I used at the time of making this film. However, I no longer use these pseudonyms as I want viewers to be clear that my films are completely my own work.

"The Solitary Rambler" is my series of amateur films of my journeys in the countryside accompanied by my own musical scores, which I compose and perform on my Yamaha keyboard.
Please note that, as with all the films I make, this is not actually intended to be an extensive guide to the area. This is a mini-movie of my personal journey along the walk, in which I often share some of my own personal stories.
If you are new to my channel, I strongly recommend reading the description under the “about” tab, which will provide a clearer understanding of what to expect in my films: / solitaryrambler
There is also a short “Introduction to the Solitary Rambler” video, which briefly explains what my films are all about: / solitaryrambler

Thank you Patrick , i have to agree Hutton-le-Hole , is simply stunning , With its lovely grassy slopes , and paths , Lee pointed out what looked like a bee hive , i particularly love the stone cross , and at Lastingham , That carved stone cross was stunning , also as you know i love my churchs ,so ,on seeing the parish church at Lastingham , i was so envious mate , Thank you so much once again , for sharing these walks with us , I am sure they give a lot of pleasure to the many viewers ,and we always enjoy finding out all about the history of the places as well as its beautiful scenery ...
One final footnote how do you manage to get such good weather , i know weve been lucky on our travels but you seem to get just the right weather each time ....
As always Patrick a real pleasure and an enjoyable watch , from myself and Lee , best wishes and take care ...Frank And Lee .......

An amazing place indeed, I'll go back sometime soon, leave the camera behind, and spend some more leisurely time there. I wonder if the beehive was one of the litter bins in the village? I must admit they do look rather like beehives! :-) I didn't go inside the church at Lastingham but I gather it's wonderful, so that's a place I'll go to again when I return. I have been lucky with the weather as you say, the sun shines on the righteous you see! :-) :-) However, when I make films that are more local to me I can of course choose exactly when I go out, but I was lucky with this one bearing in mind I had booked the accommodation many months before I traveled there. Thanks as always for watching Frank and Lee :-)

I always love to watch your videos on a Sunday morning and thought I'd treat myself to this one as it is a firm favoiurite!! How this hasn't had many more views is baffling, it really is especially as Hutton le Hole is about as close to perfect as any village can possibly be. Can't believe I have never been to Lastingham though! Would you recommend it Patrick?

That's nice to know Jeff! It's been nearly 5 years since I filmed this now, and I don't recall much in Lastingham aside from the lovely pub and the church, but I would certainly recommend visiting it. Thanks for giving this another watch 👍

I have to say that Hutton Le Hole isn't exactly the ugliest place you could visit is it? What amazes me is that as soon as you get out of your car you feel instantly relaxed and chilled out. Its a fabulous trick that not many places can pull off, but Hutton Le hole manages it. This is an excellent video and the accompanying music is blob on. Thank you.

Thank you again Eric for your lovely comments and I'm pleased you liked the music too. I thought Hutton-le-Hole was just wonderful so it was nice staying there for a few days in 2016 as a base to make a few films in the area. By the way, do you know Jeff Allinson? The reason I ask is because I've noticed you have both commented on several of the same films at almost exactly the same time, i.e. this one, Hebden Bridge, Redmire, My Early Trips. Many thanks again :)

Had a lovely cup of coffee in The Barn tea room recently (October) - staff were so lovely there and it was just a lovely cosy place to have a meal or just to sit and relax with a nice hot cuppa. Also paid a visit to the Ryedale Folk Museum and loved taking photographs there - worth a visit for sure and of course, the craft shops - unfortunately the only one open when we went was the chocolate shop, but we purchased a few things there, as you do. Definitely recommend Hutton-Le-Hole if you are in the area.

What a wonderful video, thank you so much for sharing it with us. Hutton Le Hole is about half way through my 1 hour commute to work in Malton and it is indeed a really lovely village and a fabulous place to visit. I have to say your music score is EXCEPTIONAL; straight out of the top drawer and some of it is hauntingly lovely; 11 out of 10 from me.

Thank you again Jeff for your lovely comments! I passed through Hutton-le-Hole on my way home from Rosedale Abbey the previous year, so I thought it would great to return in 2016 and film Hutton as it looked so nice. Pleased you liked the music too, thanks for that. By the way, do you know Eric George? The reason I ask is because I've noticed you have both commented on several of the same films at almost exactly the same time, i.e. this one, Hebden Bridge, Redmire, My Early Trips. Thanks again for watching and your kind comments :)

Lovely videography of one of my favourite North Yorkshire villages. We've stayed in Hutton many times, often rented Brookleigh Cottage on the high lane near to where you crossed the bridge over the beck. If you'd taken the path to Appleton le Moors you'd have found a lovely village also, with excellent Moors Inn pub. Hovingham is also a delight. There is also Goathland and Beck Hole which is close to The Mallyon Spout waterfall and of course famous for its association with the filming of "Heartbeat". The NYMR can be seen from here with Steam locos traversing the valleys from Pickering right through to Whitby, with stops at Levisham and Grosmont ... interesting places in their own right. Many thanks for posting, really enjoyed and the backing music too, added an authentic feel to what is one of the lovliest villages in "God's County". :) Also Patrick ... we love the area so much we've even tried to buy property there, but the prices are eye watering!

Hi Rog, thank you so much for your lovely comments! They are very much appreciated. It's about two years ago when I filmed this, but it was certainly a lovely village in which to stay. You mentioned Goathland and Mallyan Spout - just to let you know I have also made a film there - film no 48. Anyway thanks again for such kind comments, it makes it seem so much more worthwhile making these films when I receive great comments such as these. All the best to you and thanks for watching. Cheers, Patrick :)

It's a wonderful village isn't it? I mentioned in my last comments about filming places I've found in guide books, well this particular walk is one from a book of circular walks in the North York Moors: www.pathfinderwalks.co.uk/our-books/pathfinder-north-york-moors/. This is normally how I can decide where to film, especially in places I'm not familiar with. Cheers, Patrick :)

Ah, wonderful memories there. I now live in New Zealand, but back in the 70's I regularly went to both these places. I miss getting out to the moors!!
