You can use a hairdryer yes. Another thing you can use (but be very careful!) is the oven. Put it on a low heat and form over it. Just wear protective gloves. Use to do that method when I was younger and couldnt afford a heat gun. Hope that helps!

What diameter acrylic rod did you use?
I used a .06 acrylic rod that I found on eplastic. Hope that helps!
