    A few years back I was bitten by a brown recluse spider . I was rushed by ambulance with 108 degree temp. I was fainting. About 45 minutes after I got there my leg started to look like hamburger. The damage had begun. I don't think they knew what else to do but to give me antibiotics and pain meds. Two and a half days later when I got home my daughter and I started to wash and Pat my leg with soap and water then we'd Pat generously with a c v . Within 5 days my leg was completely healed. Thank God. I have so many stories about it. The chemicals in the vinegar are the same as in the best. Of acne lotions. It is a funguscidal, and an antimicrobial. It's a healer a cleaner you cook with it and so on and so on . It's a gift from nature so wonderful.

    Thanks for making this video. I tried making a batch of apple cider vinegar with my own apples and it worked. It even grew a mother like yours only a little thinner. I'm making my second batch now. I don't have a country homestead like yours so I don't have so I won't go through my vinegar so fast. So I'll share it with friends.

    You are so lucky to live on a farm - I have a question if you can answer it; I made two small batch of ACV in a jar, but one smells like Alcohol and it tastes bitter so I left it for 3 more weeks after adding some sugar but still smells like alcohol and tastes bitter. Do you have any idea why ..? the other jar tastes and smells like ACV. thanks

      sorry I should have asked right off the bat, can one use a cup of store apple cider vinegar along with apple cores and peels to get started ? or is the coby needed from the get go? I tried researching how scoby's originated but fail to know more then get a sample from a friend or purchase a starter..

    • @daddykirbs
      @daddykirbs  8 років тому

      freakygeaktwo You can start from ACV from the store if it is the raw organic stuff. The processed ACV is good for cleaning and all but lacks the live cultures.

    I use Natural sugar with some, and I also use Honey instead of sugar. With the apples on my property (every 2-3 years) the vinegar turns out a beautiful red brown, and appears better than store bought apples but maybe stronger.

    • @daddykirbs
      @daddykirbs  8 років тому +1

      That is the best when you have your own apples to work with. So, do you notice a difference using honey instead of sugar?

    • @rcor0net304
      @rcor0net304 8 років тому +2

      Not much a difference with honey. Yes lucky to have apples growing. The produce store a few miles away had some HUGE apples that could not be natural. Some the size of cantalopes! I have to buy apples in off season, because mine are every 2-3 years. But I don't buy the big ones. My ACV I made fall of 16 was store bought. I hope this year the apples grow so I can do more than ACV. I need to get a dryer or build one.

    I processed my vinegar in 1 month daily pushing down apples to prevent mold. Strained and bottled then capped and put in pantry. A couple of months later pulled out a bottle and opened and major carbonation spewing out from cap. I had the same issue with every bottle and am not sure if the batch is bad? Help

"How is that done"? and here you are with this great post on "HOW TO". Man . . so do you need a mother to make the vinegar? How/where do you get a mother? We use it for mouthwash, and we use allot of it here. The organic ACV is COSTLY at the grocery!!! GREAT SHARE!! Love all the family and animals involved. How much sugar for the first batch? and no yeast?

    • @daddykirbs
      @daddykirbs  8 років тому

      ***** I did not add yeast. Sugar is a variable. There are sources that say no sugar and others that say lots of sugar. My fist batch was 2 cups of sugar in about 2 quarts total volume of water and apples. I'm making a video this evening to address these questions too.

    Hi Blake! Thank you so much for your videos. I was wondering how do yo make the mother at the first place. As I am a starter in this area and I would love to find out how to start it. And another question can be sugar replaced by honey ? If in the process of making the mother requires the sugar can be it also replaced by honey ? or Dark brown sugar ? Thank you in advance for your answer!

    • @daddykirbs
      @daddykirbs  7 років тому +2

      I've never used honey in the fermented foods because I know that honey has some anti-bacterial properties that might slow down the process.... however, some people do it :)

      Honey is anti-bacterial because it has so little water available to the bacteria and fungi. Honey is anti-bacterial the same way a rock is anti-bacterial, not like penicillin. If you mix a spoon of honey into a gallon of water, it gets diluted, then it's just like regular sugar with some added flavours.

      Naz H I too want to know how he made the mother, I mean I think you just make acv like he has done here but when you have no mother you just put like heaps of braggs vinegar in the water,apples and sugar and it will eventually turn into a mother. Not just that brand but I have heard and read and it always works unless it's out of date of course.

    I started a batch ACV without the mother & stirred it every couple of cays for about 2 weeks but then I got very busy & left home a few times, long story short,,,it was left in the jar for 2 months! Apples were sitting on the bottom, no mold so I poured off the liquid into another jar 2 days ago. Do you think the ACV is ok ? Does the ACV need a second ferment with a cloth or just cap the jar and store away?

    I am new to Making this, I don't have a large open mouth jar but I do have large plastic (cranberry jug) with small lid opening, its has been 5 weeks now, I used a starter "mother" from organic store bought apple cider.. I do not have a solid like you have in video. I put lid on every day to shake it so no mold or bacteria forms on top (what I have learned from other videos), I don't know if its the starter I smell or batch actually worked. Is it that important to have open wide mouth top to breath?.. (I place cap on top loose so no pressure forms). or do I have apple water wine?

    • @daddykirbs
      @daddykirbs  8 років тому +2

      It will go through an alcohol stage before vinegar. Breathing is important. Keep that cap loose. 5 weeks may not be long enough on your first batch. Keep an eye on it, I think you'll be ok.

    Hello dear sir.
    How do you get the mother to stay so thick on to?.
    I make and seperate new batches every 7 weeks or so but only ever get a thin white mother on top.
    the rest sinks to the bottom and a new thin layer forms on top. Is the bottom dead and should I remove it. It does not even attempt to form one single layer just all thin individual layers I have pics, If I can show you. (this is a late summer ripe batch so there is much sediment.)

  • @emmdemeester6990

    Hey, awesome videos. Very informative. I have a couple questions.
    1) You put the frozen apples in the microwave. Is this only to thaw them? I don't own a microwave nor do I wish to purchase one. Would it be okay to let them thaw on the counter/in the fridge or will this cause problems such as bad bacteria growth?
    2) Is the mother or the SCOBY you use for the ACV the same SCOBY as you use to make kombucha? I am ordering some gallon jars in bulk, and grabbing a couple kombucha scobys off a girl I know to try brewing kombucha for the first time so if I could just use one of those for the ACV I think that would be better. I use ACV every day, but up until I found your channel today I didn't even realize it was something I could make at home.
    Very excited for more videos. Thanks!

    • @daddykirbs
      @daddykirbs  7 років тому +2

      Yes, thaw the apples in the fridge to allow for slow safe thawing. The SCOBY and MOTHER are same in concept but different. Many people ask if they are interchangeable. I'm not sure of the answer exactly. There are plans to conduct an experiment :)

      it's apple cider vinegar mixed with either maple syrup or honey, and water. most recipes say ginger too but I haven't gotten any yet. It's a great idea to turn your over cultured kombucha or water kefir into switchel, or something similar. It's best to let it sit for a day once you put it together.

    A lot like making kombucha but what if you don’t have a skoby to start your acv?

    What is the best way to store my Surplus mother’s. I am using about six but have 5 mothers in a kilner jar in acv. I want to keep them heathy. So how long will they be happy. I try to rotate them. I can’t bring my self to throw them away and my friends don’t seem to want one. Offered them free on FB no takers. So my question is the best way to store them long term. I love your down to earth blogs and have deleted all others from my library.

    quick question, Can I use the mother scoby I made for my kombucha tea? since u are not showing or explaining how to make the mother scoby to keep the apples pieces below the water level, any suggestions please? I am sure many people below wonder the same question and i rather hear from you than getting many opinions from below people that makes me more confused. thanks

    I made ACV and when I strained it the apples were surrounded by a clearish jell. I’m wondering if this is the beginning of a mother.

      No it doesn't stink the house up. Your pantry might have a slight smell at different stages but nothing terrible.

    Great informative video! I do have one question though. I have a bottle of organic apple cider vinegar with the mother and I was wondering if I could make more vinegar by just taking some of the mother out, putting it in a jar with water and wait?

    • @daddykirbs
      @daddykirbs  8 років тому +2

      Plain water won't make vinegar. That mother needs the sugars from the fruit to grow and convert to vinegar.

    • @martell203

    how often do you stir it, when starting new. once or twice a week?

    • @daddykirbs

      +Sandy Sledge yes every few days. You'll find find that apples start to sink over time. As they sink the risk of mold is reduced.
