Incredible. This video shows just how fast these fires can spread and what it takes to stop them. I can't believe the hand crews were sent in when it was clear the fire could easily outrun a man.
Looking at the video footage (when the camera wasn't bouncing around) it appears that you weren't in immediate danger as although the fire was high at times while burning through small trees, most of the scrub/grass was only a small height which obviously helped to slow the fire front down. Here in Australia we have the same problems only 100 times bigger as most of our trees are gums and the leaves explode with high intensity flames and heat
ya sorry about the shaking new camera still trying to get used to it. Plus it was pushing over 100f or 37.7c outside so camera was burning my fingers so i was resting it on the fence but when people touched the fence well things shook. But ya no we where not in any danger at all, it made a push to the north north east. Didnt really get that big either only 76 acres.

Hand crews work to anchor the fire line. Rarely are they asked to attack the head of the fire
