- Visiting Emi In TN. We knew everyone would like to see our typical sparring match. subject matter this time, differences in technology that share the same name. Watch the great debate and decide for yourself. Is that really a watch? Is that really a phone? Thank you all for understanding why I shoot these videos. Emi has always been a big part of D-Lab electronics. Hopefully she can take over when the old gray guy is done.
You need to tell her about the old school "party line" that us country bumpkins used to use. The whole dang neighborhood shared one line. You'll really blow her mind.🤯🙄😂😂😂
That was wonderful. Several years ago one of my wife's nephews was living in our rental house next door while going to college. Being always hungry and poor teenager he would wander over to our house - nightly. Well he had one of those stupid things and he could not, not keep looking at it even while we were chatting. I had to admonish him and tell him to SET IT DOWN and of course turn it over. He was a neat kid and somehow survived. By the way I have a neighbor and friend John, W7GQE, who bought some stuff from you. He also gave me a National NC-300 to go with my AT-1 and I'm trying to make contacts during NRR. Hope to see you on the air! 73's
What a fun video. The flip open devices on Star Trek were called communicators and worked just about like my flip open tracfone or the original Motorola razor phones that I always thought should have outlasted the iPhone. I don't own a smartphone or iPhone. They are wonderful devices but I think they consume and control peoples time. Gary W9TOF
Emi for the win!...but phones should be off in the church, or just leave in the car. I don't want to be given the stink eye!
It's not "yabut" season as my favorite math teacher used to say!
Always a pleasure to see Emi and the changes as she enters adulthood. Interesting to see how you two interact as well. Soon, she will know everything there is to know, and Grandpa will become the dummy, just as my kid sees me now.
Blah blah, back to amplifiers (-:
ok Terry, this is so cool. Firstly look at Emi.... all grown up and beautiful... time has flown. Glad you are down here visiting ( Yes I am in Jacksonville Fla) Thanks for sharing your Emi time. :)
Not too far away from me - Collierville is just east of Germantown which is just east of Memphis - 100 miles south of me in Union City ! 73 de WB4YDL
Liked the video - Glad you can visit the family!
Hello Central, I'd like to make a long-distance call station to station New York MOnument 2-2491 Please.
Terry, the 'communicator' in Star Trek is used for voice communication, the 'tricorder', often used by Spock and Bones, is a multi-purpose scientific tool for diagnostics.
Sillyfone, Celeryfone, cell phone, i-phohe, fflp phone, smart phone, car phone, mobile phone, headphone, earphone, telephone, telly, landline, microphone, PTT, puone patch, phone pickup, Bell phone, Alex G Bell stwrted it all with a diaphram.
Hi Terry, this is not only informative but quite entertaining! I stopped wearing a glimpse when I got a tricorder!
I moved from Michigan to Massachusetts for my first job when i was 19, out of computer tech school in 1973. It was a whole new world as far as that Boston accent and what things were called. Shoes became sneakers. Pop became tonic. I began dropping my r's; "Pahk the cah in Hahvahd yahd." People tend to want to fit in, y'know? I came back home on a vacation later that year, and my change in accent was very noticeable. Once I moved back to michigan for a field tech job, it took me about 6 months to change back.
These two are two peas in a pod of cuteness. Wait. Terry doesn't have a smart phone? I think Terry is referring to POTS. My watches are mechanical - because those have style. PSA - just say no to smart watches.
Emily has a "smartphone" and a "smartwatch", both of which are computers with at least one dedicated function (cellular telephone and timekeeping device, respectively). Both have multiple other functions, but like the Terry-vintage devices, they require a supporting infrastructure to operate.
The naming confusion comes about because humans of every generation want to assign shortened slang names to things, with each successive generation making them shorter.
Just look at Emi, her name's down to just three letters! 😁
Terry, you forgot to add that your watch is also a compass whenever you stand under the suns rays. PS. I have a compass that also doubles as a watch. LOL
Yabut he's wearing a digital watch...sorry, I had to go there! 73's n@.
Yes, Its a Braun. Cool German LCD Glimpse
You two are a great duo. Never lose that family fun.
old man yells at smart devices XD
You had me at Star Trek... But, the poor girls expression (3:52) when you start describing it and I begin to remember, 'Oh, Right I'm a Nerd'.
A glimpse! 😂, reminds me of the time my young niece asked me how my record player worked. The look of amazement, priceless.
As someone from Barlett who watches your channel, I dig the Collierville shirt!
Rock and Roll you guys. Keep those family ties strong. Peace!!
This is hilarious, I love this!
Terry go lay down. Your out to lunch. 🎸🎛🔈
Terry used a DIAL PHONE with a bell inside and a wire to the wall when he was Emi's age! And he did something called Morse code on a radidio when ham radio was our WWW internet.
How long can you go without using it? “This whole Video!” Used it twice to Google hehe
