    I invited a few graduates on to talk about their experience at Actualize. This is another coding bootcamp that seems to be meant for giving working professionals an opportunity to transition into software engineering. We also had a really honest conversation about learning a less marketable stack such as Ruby on Rails and Vue.js. Finally, we dove into something that you should NEVER put on your resume and Linkedin profile. Enjoy!

      I think that's a good idea. I can have them mention their backgrounds in the intros.

    Awesome video Don, if you’re covering more of the part time / working professional Bootcamp’s I think springboard might be another popular one to cover

    I've finished Actualize this May and couldn't have agreed more on Ruby on Rails and Vue.js not being very marketable.

    Hi there. Recent subscriber here. I am waiting to join Flatiron soon. Based on your conversations (I haven't had time to watch many of them) what do you think about Flatiron compared to other camps? I am looking to get into a bootcamp right away since I lost both my jobs at the onset of the pandemic. Thanks in advance!

      Hey Jacob. The videos are meant to give you as much information as possible so that you can compare them. Rather than me give my biased perspective, it's a comparison and decision that you have to make. I'm sorry to hear about your previous positions. Good luck with your journey though!

    This bootcamp is actually at 4.8 rating and doesn’t sound like it. This interviews are more valuable than switchup and coursereport reviews. Thanks Don!

    • @DonTheDeveloper
      @DonTheDeveloper  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah the ratings on coursereport seem high for many of these coding bootcamps. It'd be interesting to see what the ratings would be if coursereport didn't allow you to rate the coding bootcamp until it's been 3 months since you've graduated.

      I've given a 5 star review at the time of finishing up the course because I hadn't known any better. After experiencing the reality, I think it's closer to 4 stars.

      @@ericlee5638 Do you have any recommendation?

    • @ericlee5638
      @ericlee5638 Рік тому

      @@hyhuhnn There are so many of them so I would need to check their curriculum to see what they're teaching. But at this point I would focus on the marketable language and frameworks, like Python, Django, React, C#, etc and the project. It's very unrealistic for new coders to learn Ruby then reteach different language when your overall coding foundation is so basic. I've had one cohort who was able to do it successfully so I wouldn't say it's impossible though.

    I'm not sure if they changed what they said needs to happen or not, but on the final bit of the course it says sub topics such as data structures and algorithms is a thing.

    If guests are comfortable, maybe ask about current salary?

    • @DonTheDeveloper

      I feel like you'd get more accurate responses from that data being submitted anonymously. Maybe in the future I'd consider having them share that anonymously, without being put on the spot. I'll think about it though. Thanks for the suggestion.

    This is a great interview. Considering Actualize today(almost 3yrs after this interview) and it looks like they took some of the feedback and tried to apply it. They added Data Structures and Algoritims and looks like they may have extended Javascript....

    Your bootcamp videos are really insightful. Can you conduct an with former Altcademy students. I read it is highly rated but I can not find any students feedback on their experience. To me it is a self paced read heavy online program. I think some people might be put off by it but at the same time some are okay with it. Thanks for your work.
