    Excellent cow calls. Didn’t know there was a variation but makes sense.

    We hunt interior Alaska...patience is key. We like to call using a long-distance broadcast cow call with a water routine about 100 yards away from our sitting location. Then sit and glass for at least 2 days...often a bull appears the next day after calling from the same area. We like a big lake downwind so a bull can not come in and scent the hunter from behind and calls carry a long distance across the lake.

    I have read a lot of articles by biologists that say the rut is started by the amount of light hitting the moose’s eye

      Interesting I've never heard of that but I sure will look it up, that's cool, yeah some say it's the weather, some say it's the time of month, theres many theories that are out there, all I know is when I go hunting and when I call my first moose in, that's when the rut starts for me haha

    Here in interior Alaska, bulls are much easier to call if they do not have cows with them. If a bull has a harem, a satellite bull can be called in but that big bull with cows typically will not leave the cows. Sometimes cow calling can upset the dominant cow and if the dominant cow responds, the bull may follow her. We shot a 65 inch bull that way.

      Here in northern manitoba, from what ive seen is when bulls are eith cows they will not budge if they are with a cow unless you really piss off the big bull, ive never seen a cow come to a call, thats pretty interesting. Thanks for sharing

    Good stuff man. Hoping to get drawn here in Fort McMurray, Alberta this year and use my compound.
    If you are calling in the direction of the wind and he's coming in against the wind to you would he not smell you?

    • @hookedonhunting_
      @hookedonhunting_  3 роки тому +1

      If im calling into the wind, id stop calling once he responds, and if hes lined up with you and the wind then yes he will smell you, if he responds with grunts let him come find you, move down wind to the left or to the right depending on which way hes coming from then he wont smell you and if hes thinking the cow is where you were calling from then you now have a perfect broadside shot, sometimes you can just stay put and pretend to be another bull, sometimes they dont care about smell especially if they see you as a threat or another challanger, theres many ways of hunting moose, if you have anymore questions please dont hesitate to email me @ ericsoutdoors@gmail.com

    Does it worth trying calling bull in late November or midale of October?
    What zone are you in?
    I am a new hunter. Tried for mose this season mid Oct in zones 59 and 56 did get one. Gonna try again in November season

      Some hunters say it's not worth calling in late october or november but some hunters say it's worth a try, but if u do attract a moose it will usually be young bulls. ones that haven't had the chance to mate this year will check out your cow calls and I'm in manitoba canada zone 1

    Fellow hunters, seen this before, was out later in season, too busy, but noticed red drippings from a cow, I assume rut, saw where she pee,d, some red too, not a lot of blood, more like a diluted pee, am I correct it was in heat.

    • @hookedonhunting_
      @hookedonhunting_  3 роки тому

      If its really late in the season the red urine could be from her diet, if its not that late in the season it could be because she was in heat, ive also heard at the peak of the rut their urine might have a tint to it.

    • @Dan-qt7kq

      @@hookedonhunting_ thought same thing about just urine. More red than orange. But thought same thing, she did pee and it wasn’t as red, Thanks, and great videos

    They go into rutt because of the hours of daylight change

    • @gaborkorthy8355
      @gaborkorthy8355 2 роки тому

      You would think of hours of day light were the trigger for the rut. It should than be the same dates every year.

    None of those scent eliminators will work. Their nose is so sensitive they will still pick up the slightest of smells. The only way to guarantee you are not smelled is to "play the wind". So save your money on these so called scent eliminators. Gets me Rammy for this season.
