hello lovely humans!! this was such a fun video! I just wanted to say again that a lot of these results should be taken with a pinch of salt, especially those about personality, behaviour etc! Your lifestyle, environment and mindset massively impact who you are (we love a bit of epigenetics and neuroplasticity!!) 💛 It was also SO cool to find out more about where I’m from, but it’s worth noting that humans are genetically 99.99% the same and that race in itself is a social construct ✨ big love to you all! Which part of the DNA Test would you be most interested to see about yourself?
hey Lena! Omg you’re so incredible, thank you for sharing all of this! 🥰 I had a lot of similar Qs myself. It differs a lot between DNA Testing companies. Circle actually v strict privacy regulations: “We do not sell, lease or rent any of your data with any third party. Only you can decide how your results are shared with others. We adhere to the leading international security standard, ISO-27001. All connections to and from our database are encrypted using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology.” And instead of just sequencing SNPs (like other common, cheaper tests like 23AndMe or DNAFit), Circle DNA sequences your whole exome! This is a lot higher accuracy and 31 million datapoints as opposed to ~700K. I think that as long as you understand that environmental factors play a HUGE role in who you are, then you can enjoy the results with a pinch of salt and, as you say, choose whether or not to adapt your lifestyle! :) thank you so so so much for sharing though! I was SO sceptical too haha
@@UnJadedJade thanks for reading my massive comment. That's good that Circle is different. But I would still avoid these just due to the lack of regulation. Yeah tbh when white people get dna tests I kind of automatically assume that most dna from predominantly non-white places will be because of some colonialism somewhere down the road 😬
@@aminanana1 Oh yeah for sure, it's just all the dna tests I usually see are from people living in Western Europe or the US. Since colonialism by Western countries happened pretty recently and it was also really widespread, the liklihood is that the white people getting dna tests here will have some dna because of white colonialism. Similarly, the poc living here likely have some dna because of the same thing. I can't speak for other parts of the world, it's just a probability thing for the people living in the West. Of course, there are almost certainly other reasons as well; this is just a really big one that affects lots of poc communities in the country I live in.
I'm white (born in Europe with an American mom and my dad is from Eastern Europe) and when I got my DNA test back I ended up being 100% European 🙃I think it's important to realize not all European countries colonized. I think it's important to understand that these ethnicity estimates are just that ESTIMATES.They are based on base populations. Hence if the base populations change, then your estimates most definitely will change too. Don't take them, especially the smaller percentage estimates as having any validity at all. If you test with different companies, because they have different base populations, you'll find that your ethnicity estimates can vary quite a lot.
I absolutely understand why you didn't share you family planning results but I wanted to share a thought. It's a very common subject to avoid and not talk about the illnesses and conditions you have or might get but it's such a vital one to talk about. Having some issues regarding reproductive/sexual health is extremely common but because it's so little talked about it's easy to feel alone with your condition, or even worse the condition you might have, but so far all you know is that something is wrong but not what exactly. Sharing your issues, or simply your genetic predispositions more openly, would undoubtedly be uncomfortable, but I think it would help a lot of women to feel more seen and less alone with their issues. Loved the video though!
