We are based in North Wales and manage around 150 colonies of bees, plus nucleus colonies.
We produce Great Taste Award winning honey and sell nucleus colonies to members of the public.
Our 6 frame overwintered nucleus colonies sell out very fast every year so early ordering is advisable.

We supply F1 Mated Buckfast and Jolanta Queens throughout the season. The UK Mated Jolanta Queens are reared using genetics used by the UK's biggest bee farmer - Murray McGregor - and are not available to general public, except through resellers like us! Check out our queens page on our website.

We are passionate about beekeeping and really enjoy helping beekeepers through our UA-cam channel.
On our channel you can find information on making splits with swarm cells, making increase with queen cells, grafting larvae, foulbrood and disease inspection, honey extraction and machinery, top tips for beginners, products reviews, instructions and guidance plus much more.
#NO NONSENSE BEEKEEPING is a UK based beekeeping channel, designed to keep beekeeping as simple and enjoyable as possible. There are no overly complicated techniques or intricate pieces of equipment.
We cover all beekeeping topics ranging from queen rearing, disease recognition/control, honey extraction, swarm management/collection, how to make splits and much more!
My personal favourite aspects of beekeeping are selecting queens for rearing, rearing queens for mating, making up nucs for overwintering and collecting swarms.

I had to do this 3 weeks ago. It was all going so well until the I didn’t follow Lawrence’s previous video advice (because the following had never happened to me before ) and DIDN’T tape the queen cage shut before installing. Needless to say when I took it out to flip the candy cover off they had propolised it to buggery and the cage fell apart. Queen fell down into hive. 30 seconds later a slight change in pitch within the hive-clearly a death chant-as there is now no queen in that hive. Sigh. Lesson learnt. why is it in bee keeping the hardest lessons seem to be either painful or expensive or both? Great videos Lawrence. Will be watching this series with interest

Had something similar happen. Had a swarm (new bee keeper) unable to recover the swarm so followed Black Mountain Honey and killed the queen cells on day 8, introduced a new buckfest queen. Caged queen looked to be accepted, 48h i remove the tabs, 2 weeks later no queen and more charged cells. Looks like she was rejected by the colony.
Now i am in to damage limitation, i have kept 2 charged cells on separate frames. I now have kept 5 brood frames in the hive with 1 charged cell and moved another 5 to a NUC Hopfully i am covered and hopefully i get 2 colonies going...

Thanks for this, I really needed this video, I have a very angry colony that gave me multiple stings through my socks last week, I ended up in ambulance having a mild allergic reaction, it really made me consider my future as a beekeeper and the future of that colony, but I think I am going to try and follow this instructional and re-queen instead.

Great video! I often find that very feisty hives often reject the new queen when in I give them a queen only. They tend to change the queen later on. Even when they are hopelessly queenless.
What is even more failsafe is letting the hopelessly queenless bees draw their new queen from a frame of eggs preferably from a purebred queen, at least that is what i experienced. Seems like they are more happy to build their own or maybe it is just my carniolans, who knows :) Had too many occasions when they changed their queens 3 or 4 weeks later when her first brood emerges.

Glad you were able to spot the queen so quickly. I have dealt with a horrible angry hive and searched FOREVER to find the queen. I should have used your foolproof method...I don't think it could have been worse. I DID NOT FEEL BAD squishing the bad queen when I finally found her.

Mature beekeepers say to put a box with drawn out comb on bottom board and take the brood boxes to other end of the apiary to reduce flying bees whilst looking for the queen

How timely! I wish I didn't have to but we need to requeen one colony.

I had one last fall that was still hot this spring so I requeened it the way you did. I was wondering how long it takes to correct their attitude because they are no better yet. It's only been 5 weeks so hopefully by August they will calm down. I must say they are packing in the honey.

This time of year, workers live 5-6 weeks. Add to that the 21 days to produce a new worker. So, it'll take 8-9 weeks to change the colony's temperament.

What gloves do you use, and do you get stung through them a similar amount as a leather glove?

Does pinching the queen leave her pheromones on your kit?

Why can’t you add a new queen right after you kill the old queen put the new queen in a cage and add a candy entrance

I wonder if they can still ball her in the cage. The time may allow for the old queens pharamones to dissipate.
