There should be state police, but there must be a law in place not to allow political gladiators not to use them as weapn against the people they're meant to serve. While Federal police e will come in when bckup are needed in states. All police stations should be run under state control. While federal police will recide in Abuja and Ikeja, they should be sent as team officers at the international boundaries.

Nigeria is not yet ripe for state police. The existing police should be entirely overhauled, retrained, more personnel should be recruited by competence and not by recommendations of politicians and top officers, their renumeration should be improved, they should be banned from collecting bribes on highways, there should be means of tracking officers and monitoring what they do while on duty especially with arms such as cameras/ recorders on their vehicles and bodies then let NSCDC be used as Rural security in the wards and every community in Nigeria and not guarding politicians and oil companies

What do you mean when you say the system is not ripe for such reform? Are you suggesting that things aren't yet bad enough for us to need to fix them? Because this discourse of operating bad systems until they are ripe before you fix them is not something any civilzation has ever had. This is how you people rationalize maintaing objectively inferiour systems and rejecting global best practices and then you wonder why you keep failing..
Breaking problems down into smaller manageable parts that can be more easily resolved is exactly how ALL problems are solved. This idea is the entire reason why subnational divisions exist even in so-called unitary states but here you people are in love with monolith organisations trying to tackle infinitely complex problems all on their own.

If Nigeria is not ripe for state police after 64yrs then perhaps the country should be dissolved because the country is not ripe enough to be a proper country

The politics of any nation determines the economy of that nation. The politics of the islamic state of Nigeria has and displays open hatred to Biafran Nation and her economy. Now, there is need for a peaceful exit from the forced marriage organised by Britain.

It's not the duty of these fantastically corrupt criminal politicians to give us any police let alone state police. We the Peoples of Nigeria demand a Transition now. We don't want any Constitutional Amendment but Constitutional Reconstruction and Reconfiguration. All these his excellencies and mr president are not what we want. We,the Indigenous Peoples know what we want and how to get. Let's renegotiate Nigeria now!

Absolutely! This National Assembly that came from the illegitimate 1999 constitution cannot give us a people's constitution. We need a proper constitutional conference or implement the 2014 confab

You people must stop all this nonsense argument of state police or no state police, As if police na Nigeria problem. Useless politicians with their selfish interest.
Every Nigerian citizen should protect themselves with whatever they have.
There's no steady power supply and you're talking about state police or no police.

This guy with the green hat does not seem to have the wisdom and maturity to create laws that would stand the test of time. He is too concerned about known past and current behaviors of the people. As a law maker, you should be thinking of a situation that should have the result of changing future behaviors and not worrying about how the current players would feel about the change.
