This Chesterfield is stealing the entire show and I am here for all of it. Childhood books have all the feels - congrats on getting through this.

LOL. Actually giggled out loud. I'm with you. The couch is a key component of this video. :) And thanks!

What really helps me with decluttering books, since I find it so hard sometimes to let them go, is imagining the joy that a child nowadays will find from that book. With adult books that I enjoyed a lot I think about how I want those ideas to spread among more people instead of keeping it in my own closet. I also love hostel libraries and just finding books that I would otherwise never have found, so that's also a thought that helps me let books go.

Such a good video! I love videos about sentimental items decluttering and always wonder why they don't seem to be that popular on youtube. Greetings from your 100th subscriber and good luck with your future UA-cam journey! I will recommend your channel on mine because I think you make amazing videos!

Watched a few of your videos back to back now, really enjoying them! So amazed that your parents kept your childhood books! My mum got me to take everything a couple years after I moved out.

I’ll soon need to declutter stuff from my (childhood and my) youth when going over to Germany where I grew up as my Mum can’t look after the stuff anymore which I still have in the cellar. I hope I’ll be successful. 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Great job! And think of all the homeschool moms who will be thrilled to find those used books!!!! The yearbook is a hard one. That’s my struggle

I almost cried when you got emotional over your books because I can relate so much. I have 4 metre long and over 2.30 metres tall shelves chock-full with books and every single one I am decluttering gives me anxiety 😵 having said that, your video helped by putting things in perspective. Thanks and hope to see further content on this subject:)

That is exactly my demographic as well. Jane Austen, Lord of the rings, Harry Potter, and then throw in a little Shakespeare too! Or a lot of Shakespeare! Lol.

I, too, find books to be very difficult to part with. I did donate a thesaurus but kept the beautiful dictionary that I used in university. Next, I have to pass on some of the books I used when doing my MEd ~ plan to pass them on to someone starting their MEd in the fall. Imagining that person using my books makes it a little easier. Just have to keep the big picture at the forefront of my mind, as you advised! It's definitely a process. Thanks for sharing. ❤

Hello from a fellow Minnesotan! 🤗
I think we’re about the same age, we have many childhood books in common. My partner and I recently did this, and we kept The Giver, our original Harry Potters (just one set though), and a few others. It was REALLY hard to do!

Oh, dear. I had to stop watching. Books are so dear to my heart and I couldn't bear to see you get rid of your childhood dictionary and thesaurus. On my shelves I have (and I just counted) five dictionaries, including a pocket one that was my grandfather's and one from my first job as a newspaper reporter. Also, a copy of The Synonym Finder and Roget's College Thesaurus. I know that is crazy but I am a writer and see no reason at all to get rid of any of them. Better to err on the side of my heart. I applaud your bravery!

Wow, yes this must have been hard for you to watch!!! You're a writer--you're allowed to keep those things. :)

My childhood books and puzzles were about to be discarded by my mom a couple years ago and I rescued them. I kept my very favorites and the rest I gave to my friend with 3 young kids and my sister in law who has a toddler. My old chapter books have been in my stepson's room for years but he doesn't really read them and he's 17 now so I think it's about time to start letting some more of those go as well. I would like to have more kids or adopt though so I am still hanging on to quite a few books.

You should know that I have watched this video about 5 or 6 times already, or maybe even 7 or 8 ... I never counted, but I've watched it every couple of weeks in the past couple of months, sometimes two times in a row😁 I also have the same copy of Harry Potter and the goblet of fire (still have it, it's not going anywhere anytime soon😆). I did declutter The Prince, though

I say, “I release this with love, then it goes into the donation pile” or I pass it on to a friend.

I don't think there is any right or wrong.. i was raised by low level hoarders who expected that we should keep EVERYTHING including all our school books, reading books, toys ..etc etc. over the years as an adult, since i've cleared all my stuff out of my parents place i have had several goes at whittling it all down and it does take several passes i find.. no way would i have been able to do it all the first time through. i have kids, and things i have saved for them have sometimes been successful - esp a few books, but often not as successful as i thought they would be; they don't really care about them (like i did) and mostly the things i loved and cherished are a bit out of date, or they just don't have the same connections to them, which is completely understandable. They also have more than enough of their own cherished pieces.
