  • Ormskirk and District Family History Society (registered charity no. 1004895) is dedicated to encouraging people to research their family history in south-west Lancashire. We have monthly meetings in Ormskirk and our organisation includes members all over the world.
This video concentrates on a particular stretch of Southport Road, Lydiate, where several fascinating historic buildings can be found just a few hundred yards apart - fifteenth-century Lydiate Hall, St. Catherine’s Chapel (or “Lydiate Abbey”, as it’s known locally), the neighbouring Lydiate Hall Farm, and nineteenth-century Our Lady’s Church, a Roman Catholic place of worship.
As always, we love receiving questions and comments on our videos, and you can find out more about us by visiting www.odfhs.website or by searching for Ormskirk and District Family History Society on Facebook.

I was born in Omrskirk and lived in Southport road Lydiate and came across this site whilst browsing, my dad had a butchers shop on Liverpool road Maghull, it is interesting to see this as I left Lydiate 50 years ago.

Hi My mum was an evacuee to the Cleator(?) family in Lydiate during the war. They had a Butcher's shop. Would this be the same one that is mentioned by madjac?
