Khepri, in ancient Egyptian religion, is the god of the morning sun, represented by a scarab. How Wildbow finds the perfect references I will never know
Pretty sure the two people on hands and knees next to her are supposed to be doormaker and clairvoyant (best visible at 1:14 (Edit) except she steps away from them to scream. So yeah kinda weird but still an amazing animation.
Pretty great. One nitpick, and one lol thing. The nitpick is that Khepri should have a portal next too her to start, connecting her to doormaker and clairvoyant, before the other doors. The lol is that anyone watching this without knowing Worm might think this is an "avengers, assemble" moment.
It's kind of like the portal scene in Avengers Endgame but way more tragic. Khepri giving up everything she had to fell a god, with only the few truly appreciating what she had accomplished in the end.
Once there was a maiden, Who endured everything Others saw this as a weakness So they struck her again and again They took her joy, and she endured They took her friends, and she endured Until she did not know anything but endurance She met others who told her that she could be better She met the grue clad in dark, She met the tattletale laced in secrets, She met the hound on the hunt, She met the regent with all his arrogance And later she met the imp with it's cackling glee "You can be better" They said So she became something that skittered in the night Fear and ruthlessness became her sword and shield Hope and trust her armor and cloak And she ruled with these by her side "None will ever suffer again" Said the enduring maiden But she was wrong, for many would suffer And she realized that what she was, was not enough So she cast away her ruthlessness And shattered fear against hope She clad herself in trust And armed herself with hope reforged She was bound with the expectations of the many But made them into her armor She met many more again, "Darkness sometimes hides a sun" They said And she met the noble chevalier, his armor bright, And she met the magnificent fairie queen in her court, And she met the defiant, standing proud against opposition, And she met the mighty dragon, it's wits sharper than it's claws, "Sometimes the sun shines with the darkness" They said And she became a weaver of destinies "The few will protect the many" Said the redeemed maiden But the savior, the first turned upon them Spurred on his way by the lost and the damned By chaos and by nightfall Much was lost, and many fell Many tears were felled, and much pain was had The maiden who wanted to protect cried out in sorrow "I have failed" Said the maiden She once again took up ruthlessness She cast off the expectations And hope was cast aside for control She met none, for there was noone to meet She was joined by the scheming angel Whose motives were not known to any Not even itself. While I've always enjoyed the early parts of Worm more than the latter, the idea of a cinematic of Gold Morning thrills me more than any number of Marvel movies.
Chills. CHILLS. Taylor/Khepri's scream between all the sweeping portal shots was what really hit home for me. Captured the raw, human tragedy driving this epic standoff.

We seriously need an adaptation of Worm, even if it was just the first few arcs, it would be so much better than the crap thats being released from hollywood nowadays
And it’s already decently well-paced for a streaming series Wait for the MCU to implode, and start building hype for a completely independent story And it’s not like Worm is some unknown, it’s literally one of if not the, most popular English web serial
I know I shouldn't be surprised that the bug girl is opening portals that look like Honeycombs, since that's how they were described in the book, but I am and I love them

I just finished reading the worm arcs for the third time, just have the epilogue left. I always forget how epic that last GM battle is. Every year, it's harder for me to picture those kinds of complicated scenes, but i will still read it annually. And every year, I'll come back to this video (and your others) to help me get a better grasp, to help me imagine it more. Truly, thanks for doing this.

Dont think so. As for me portals is more about hope, while in GM there is no hope just pain and despair witch fuel the rage. Remember that it was master control what drive all capes and humans in this fight. No bravery but slavery
Great animation job! Good work matching the visuals to the song, too. The GM razing is good use of the intro music. I expected a shot of a crowd of capes to be revealed lined up with Khepri for the start of the hook, based on how the camera was panning, but having people step through the portals is cool, too. Starting a little sooner with that would have been good, IMO; I think she was by herself a couple seconds too long given the lyrics are plural. I would have liked if a few more of the portals had some kind of landscape on the other side instead of blank navy blue, but I can imagine that being a lot harder for the moving shots where most of them are. I like the yell as she gets worse. Doormaker is missing at the end of her walk. I was just getting into the video and getting excited for where it would go with the drop, and then it ended. 🤣 I get why it had to, though, and it's good the way it is. The last shot is a cool way to end it.
