Cycling the British Coastline - 5. Aberdeen to Sunderland
Вставка
- Опубліковано 23 сер 2023
- The spring 2023 bikepacking Britain trip takes me along the eastern coast of Scotland, through Dundee and St Andrews, along the Fife peninsula, and then across the huge Forth suspension bridge into Edinburgh and Leith. Then the farmland takes me to the Scottish-English border and the wedge of land between there and Hadrian's Wall, which has been battleground territory for thousands of years. I'll also visit Lindesfarne where I hope not to get cut off by the tides, and then Bamburgh castle. A little ferry over the River Tyne takes me into South Shields and the finish at Sunderland.

I always look forward to and appreciate your insights and explores of Britain!
Wonderful video Ollie. Really enjoyed every minute! That was an excellent journey - really lookin' forward to the Yorkshire coast!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Really love your travelogues, they provide inspiration for planning my own trips. That stretch of coastline from Berwick south is spectacular :)
Nice to see you out and about again visiting some of our favourite places and some new to us . Many thanks for this film best wishes S&J.
Thanks for another cracking trip so many wonderful memories you made ❤
Fabulous video, Ollie. You always make things so interesting. Come and cycle around Warwickshire sometime!
Brilliant - as always. I love Lindisfarne - I love islands in general. And the Forth Bridge always reminds me of Film Noir, but I'm not sure why. Can't wait for the next instalment! Great film Ollie.
Hitchcock's film The 39 Steps.
Greensleeves or the skirl of the Bag Pipes; choose your poison!
Great journey Oli, thanks for sharing. The audio reveals: Your bike chain is missing some drops of oil after all the miles 🙂
Thanks very much. Yeah you're right, it had been through a lot by the end.
Another super video Ollie. Your videos are always full of interesting facts. I will look forward to the next one. Don't you get saddle sore with all that cycling?
Thanks very much. I do a little bit 😂
excellant video,as are the previous cycling episodes...ive got the same hybrid bike, the crank peddle cog clicks like a clock, ive had a new lower bracket put on,but its no differant....roll on the next video...many thanks...
I had aTrek hybrid & changed the bottom bracket to resolve the clicking, turns out i just needed new pedals!
cool idea, but you should have done the lot in a week! :-)
After finding out that my ancestors came from Shropshire/Manchester - I read a History of Britian. I remember the chapter where the Vikings first invaded and plundered a monastery. I really enjoyed seeing the actual place where it all happened. Wasn't that monk the first to write a history book?
Thanks Marvin, Yeah lindesfarne is such a great piece to visit, especially looking eastward out to sea. Oh I didn't know that about Cuthbert. Intriguing...
3:30 no way ... that's spooky as bro.... I only went over it for the first time a few years back and had never been to Dundee but before I did cross the bridge, I had a vivid dream of being on that bridge in a train and it collapsing into the water, I even told my wife about it the first time going over, I was like I've been on this bridge before in a dream and fell into the water, I never knew it had collapsed before....
Ollie, how do we get hold of your tee-shirt? It looks really nice and a great colour too 🧡
You could have taken the pedestrian Tyne tunnel instead of the ferry.
I agree it would've been good to see the old County Boundaries of Northumberland and Durham in the cycle tunnel tiled walls... Great photo op👍
I didn't realise at the time. The ferry seduced me very easily.
Interesting about the flags on the border. I suppose Scots gotta Scot.
Haha I suppose they do 😂
Why would you need union rag on the border? it is the flag of both sides, if England wants to put up a union flag that's on them, but it marks nothing, it isn't a UK border, the kingdom is both sides.
Only thing missing is an EU flag, but the English had to English ( whatever that means)
@@aa-xg3ct I quite agree about the EU flag. However you'd have to say the Welsh gotta Welsh as well as they voted to leave the EU too.
fair enough...but this is specifically the England - Scotland border@@radman8321
"French, Spanish, Mandarin and American"? Really? What about "Scottish"?
