- Heres is my comp of Wayne Dahls solo for Help Me Make it Through the Night. Wayne plays steel for Martina McBride, and is a Very, very talented and tasteful player. A quick search, and you will locate this video poste by Jamie Lennon
Love your teaching lessons wish I play like that thank you.
Thanks so much for this one Mickey. That kind of playing really makes a pedal steel cry. I love the counterpoint and harmony!
always nice to watch your teaching Mickey. wva joe
I would like to thank you for taking the time to set down and show us, the some not so talented, how to play. I have seen several videos from others who also are in the teaching mode of pedal steel. I have yet to find one that is so informative about the licks and to identify who, when, and where is being played and how to "get" the sound or chord. I have learned alot from your teaching, and glad you take the time to show us how.
@swisssteellady sorry for asking, found the answer: at 5.01 Minute the slide from 12. to 9. fret irritated me, the bb is on 9.fret 5. string everything like Wayne plays it now.
This video that I comped this from was not Paul..it was Wayne Dahl..
Steel guitar is very labor intensive hap..A starter guitar can be purchased from around 600-1000 dollars. Professional rigs cna go through he roof...The rig im using in this video....around 11,000.00 total
Nothing like a pedal steel
I'm goona have to say i came here, watched it, stole it, modified it and claimed it!
Good stuff Mickey! When i get stuck always seem to find something you've done that helps me figure it out or remember how to play it! All the best my friend!!!....kenny
Micky

Mahalo Mickey ~ definitely Paul Franklin'esque. I only hope when I learn this solo I won't be asked to play something similar, ha, ha. Thanks for the spoon feed. Johnny Kealoha Pal
I agree Mickey, it,s Wayne,s version-i use it, but i don,t use same chordes he does- as ya know you can get same effects in diff. positions..Joe in VEGAS
nicely done mickey
hey Mickey !!! Wayne showed me the solo, we do it on Georgettes show !!!! Me and Georgette gonna come to your shows next week
@Singlpilot omg - I thought you were skimping!- I honestly thought a radar or a parachute was in the budget- I think you have an appropriate rig- you do know what you are doing.-makes me want the bookASAP- thanks Mickey keep smiling!
Any chance you could do a video talking about what equipment you are using to get that pedal steel sound that is so familiar in all country music. Do you have any recommendations for beginners on what gear would be good to start out with (volume pedal brands, key ideas when buying an amplifier for pedal steel, and using reverb pedals vs built in reverb on the amp)? Any advice would be much appreciated because everything I've ever found about gear assumes the buyer is a professional which means the equipment they recommend is always quite pricey even by music equipment standards.
Strings 5 and 2 unison w/ A pedal and string 2 lowered.( Not string 4 as stated)
A QUESTION:
at 19. second in his clip, Wayne starts the Do7 (V7) downslide with the leading tone bb (think you write it so in USA?)
On your clip, your leading tone is a cis, which is nice and correct of course....
but can you anyway help me to play it Waynes way; i cant find it out by myself
Thx a lot!
Mike, the sustain is coming from the guitar mainly...A Mullen G2 S12. A studio quality Avalon PreAmp is used to power my cabs, but the gain level for these videos is insufficient to add sustain
My New G2 D12, ready this week would be about 6k, 2 TC Furlong Cabs..2K, Avalon 737 Studio Preamp, 2200, Mullen Volume Pedal, 500, Lexicon Processor, 300, Peterson Tuner, 250, BJS Bars (4)@ 75, Assorted Cables, 100, Keeley Compressor 300, Overdrive 300...Comes to little more doesn't it...Subtract about 1500 for the SD 12 in the video...
Thanks brother Larry!!...Did you take the new gig?...and hows it going?
@jamielennon1 Hey JL thanks my friend!
John, come look me up...ill be in the Mullen room!!>..Mick
Nice lesson as always Mickey-Did you really say 11,000 for the rig? Please break it out a little- this blows my mine- Nice Steel- 5g's I'm guessing- Amp(s) 2-3G's- what else?
slightly different/more difficult, than your other version....
Thank you
I learned from Emmons sounds different.
