Bobby Pulido rose to fame in the mid-1990s with his debut album "Desvelado," which became a massive hit and established him as a prominent figure in the Tejano music scene.

Woah 😳 I never would have imagined we'd get a Bobby Pulido TedTalk! This is great 🫶🏽
Thank You Ziomara!
@@bobbypulido1298I think in this world, should not have imaginary borders, but government has imposed them and we grew to accept them, willingly or unwilling, the fact of the matter is that it is they are now "real" although they are invisible. The point is and in my opinion, people should be from a region of this Earth and pertain to it. It coinsides that our region is both sides of the river. I literally have two homes one in my Ranch in Tamaulipas and one in Falcon Tx. Therefore this region is my home.
This TedTalk perfectly describes the NOT* Mexican but Mexican experience. We are Tejanos. From here. From there. From nowhere. The pocho experience is a difficult one to describe. Bobby nailed it here. Bravo Senor Pulido!
I’m glad Bobby Did this Ted Talk. We as Tejanos needed to hear this message.
Proud Tejano here. Very well spoken. Edinburg Texas proud here ❤️🫶
What a great Talk. I was born in Mexico 🇲🇽 but I have lived in California my whole life. I feel fully American and fully Mexican. I speak Spanish, I love our culture and our food. I’m very grateful to represent both countries 🇺🇸🩷🇲🇽
Great job, Bobby. I’m a proud Pocha too🙌🏽
traidora a la patria
💯
I'm the same way, grew up in Mexico until age 8. I've been living in Texas all my life and I feel Mexican American, 50/50.
MAD RESPECT FOR THIS MAN!! Anyone born in any border town will assimilate to both cultures on both sides of that border, regardless of what part of the world that border may be dividing
I'm ready to vote for this guy in any political office he decides to run for. He absolutely represents me and my family.
Thank You!
1000%.
Bobby, didn’t you actually go to law school? I think I heard you mention it in Zagar Desde El Bar 😂
@@desertbloomelectric172 I believe he graduated from St. Mary’s with a Political Science degree, and not from law school. What makes him qualified for any political office is his knowledge of Mexico-US diplomacy and border theory. I don’t see our current politicians even trying. They’re just bashing each other and not working for the people.
Same...
Finally someone is telling our Tejano history 🤠🤘🏽
Yes! ...and Go Horns 🤘
We are Tejanos, This is how we talk, we either speak English with a bit of Spanish or English with a bit of Spanish. Its called Tex-Mex. We are Tejanos this is our homeland.
Proud Tejano here, too, living in Arizona. You hit the nail on the head Bobby. Good job.
I grew up with the Pulido family. I consider them family. They are good people and have my undying loyalty. They accepted me as family and I will always love them.
As a fellow Tejano, now living in Califas for more years, I've always preached the fact that speaking more than your native language will always open more opportunities for you, whether it's being more valuable in your career or simply having the ability to communicate with someone else because of it. This helps us grow as an individual and as a human. I really enjoyed this video. Thank you for sharing your story, and shining the light on this topic brother. Animo Raza!
Glad you liked it.
YOUR RIGHT THATS WHY I WISH MEXICANS WOULD SPEAK THEYRE REAL NATIVE LANGUAGE LIKE NAHUATL DIALECTO ETC..
Honestly, I'm just finding out that he doesn't speak Spanish natively. It's inspiring for someone who has been blasting his songs for years and who is trying to learn Spanish
Same as Selena.
I’m with you.
It makes me happy to know that more and more people from the valley are representing our Tex-Mex culture - whether it be through music, food recipes, UA-cam videos or straight up speeches like these. Viva El Tex-Mex!
We (my siblings and I) grew up the same way too. We are pochos and pochas!
As my friend Joseph Alvarado said, “We have a regional story only us Tejanos understand. Crazy that someone so famous shares this too.”
Thank you Bobby for sharing your story! 🙌🏼
That's called chicano
💯
@13:00 Proud Tejano right here. 💪🏽 Thank You, Bobby… for speaking for us. We’re not going anywhere.
First US born person to tell the story about Tejas, correctly. I grew up listening to Bobby in Michoacán.
A speech that has been due for some 100 years…. pure Tejano History! Mannn… Historical speech 💯🤠🔥 Thanks for also shouting out Houston to Carnal! 🤘🤘
Mad Respect!!! Puro Tejano Baby!!
You’re Mexican brother
@@Ricky-d3znot according to Mexicans from Mexico. But honestly we ain’t so different
I was scrolling and saw this like wtf?! 😂
I had to do a double take, honestly this Ted talk was great and is something I could see Selena doing back then, or at least showing gratitude for Bobby educating the people
me too i never thought id see bobby pulido on a ted talk lol
@ lol
Gracias, gracias gracias. You explained it to a T. I’m 71 years old Born in Brownsville, Tejas. Raised on the road in Wisconsin, Oregon, Idaho and finally the San Joaquin valley of California. As I was growing up I was called a Mexican, when I went to know Mexico I too was called a Pocho. A professor from the university of Mexico gave a lecture at my college and called those of us who are born here “Los Perdidos”. He said that is what intellectuals call us in Mexico. Well I’ve never felt lost, but I’ve always like many people felt proud to be Tejanos.
Bobby is a well rounded artist, his work always with a positive purpose,
I've never felt so represented in my life! Thank you for this Ted talk Bobby Polido! You are the man!! ❤🙏🫶
A pocho from Los Angeles here. Much respect to Bobby and this Ted Talk.
This was very insightful. I am first generation Mexican American and a pocha. Being called Pocha never bothered me, I was proud to be both Mexican and American. My first language was spanish and I have grown up loving and mostly listening to spanish music. I love my mexican culture and am so proud of it. When Bobby said Mexican paraphernalia I was schocked that he would feel the way he did about it. Like if he was not part of it but I always saw Bobby Pulido as not just tejano but Mexican jsut like me. My children are now second generation and they mostly speak English even though I speak to them in spanish. Out of my 3 kids only one really loves Mexican music. and the other two like it. Many people want to cast judgment when "mexicans" don't speak spanish but don't know the history. This was great.I am not Tejana and don't listen to the music but I sure listened to Bobby Pulido.
Wow, story of my life growing up in San Juan TX. In California now and definitely not Mexican enough. Never felt more proud to be Tejano, thanks Bobby. Met you once at Javi’s house in Pharr, always knew you were a good dude bro.
Bobby Pulido is the man! I had no idea he is Tejano. Voy Desvelado 🎵🎵🎵
Great speech, relatable to all south Texans of Mexican heritage.
Thank you 👊🏼
Sand Diego and Alice Texas
It's as if he is telling my life story. I'm a Tejana and I'm very proud of my Tejano culture and I'm proud of our Texas history and just as he said I love the United States of America. Bobby Pulido was my crush ❣️ back in the day and now after this Ted Talk I love him as a proud Tejano man.
Wow, from one pocho to another...thank you for that great inspiring speech!💪🏼
Nice talk!! I born in Mexico and I have the opportunity to travel around Texas for work, and listen to texano music, and really hit me, I really loved and feel this type of music 🫶🏽
Proud Tejano in Atlanta, well said Bobby.
Me too! What part of Atlanta!?
My later teenage years were in Brownsville TX. Another proud tejano here
Just chicano
@@doofwarrior9912 Chicano is a California cholo. That stuff is not even a thing in Texas.
@doofwarrior9912 The term chicano is the broader term that was used during the political activism movement in the 60s and 70s. Tejano is geographical term dating back to the 1820s in Texas during the Spanish colonialism.
Texans are more likely to use Tejano vs Chicano when describing oneself. Either term is not wrong
@@lesbethtacioni1733 Chicano is a California blood in blood out cholo
@lesbethtacioni1733 i appreciate you i am trying to learn more i had always learned chicano. I don't like the more I learn about Texas history
Good for you for not giving up and getting discouraged from all the comments and negativity from those people. Thank yourself because you took the initiative to improve your Spanish and connect deeper to your Mexican roots.
Tejano & Proud 🤘🏽❤️
Hope, respect, and dignity are alive and well in you, Bobby and I will always be in your corner.
This was an awesome interview!! You go, Bobby Pulido.!! Viva Tejano Culture!
As a person who grew up in Northern California then moved to West Texas when I was about 12, this really hit home. I struggled to fit in, even with the pochos. Now, I have a 15 y/o daughter and she is being raised to know her Mexican culture. She takes a great deal of pride in knowing where her roots lie, as do I. Thank you, Bobby Pulido, for being not only a great artist, but for being a worthy representative for our Tejano culture.
Oh my goodness, I adopted your songs when I was dating the mother of my kids! I felt so in love basically because of your album! Great speech man, Tejano-man!
Wow, I just learned something today, Tejano Tejas y Mexicano together.
I remember when I met Bobby Pulido . I took my mum out to El Rol “to downtown Houston, when we hear music playing at The Plaza Jones, so we started heading over there. I remember I saw this young and handsome boy singing country music and asking myself: Who’s this cutie? Then he started singing Desvelado and I was OMG!! This is my best and luckiest day!! Congratulations to all of your family Bobby and continue with that noble commitment to encouragement for the young people to believe in themselves and become better human beings 🙏🏼✨🎉
Bro this guy has one of the biggest hits in Mexican regional music from the 90s that is very common to hear on radio today not only that famous bands even cover his song.
Thank you Bobby for showing your humanity. I Wish you the best in your future endeavors and political path to be the exemplary man you already are ♥️🙏 you got my support. Blessings.
You're a good man and will do good no matter what you do! LETS GO BOBBY!
Great message! As a second generation who does not speak Spanish I am proud that my Grandparents saw the future of their legacy. I am proud of where I come from Colorado and yes I do not look like I come from Mexico, and I am proud of this heritage too!
My mom passed 10 years ago but would have loved this beautiful presentation. She was born in Texas and My dad from Mexico. My mom was spanked on the hand for speaking Spanish at school and wanted her kids to learn English as a first language. I understood Spanish but didn’t speak well and my cousins in Mexico on my dad’s side would laugh at me. I love my TexMex roots. ❤
Love you Bobby 💗💗💗 from a proud Tejana!
Thank you Bobby❤
I’m Desvelado from staying up watching this great talk.
🤣
Bobby Pulido is such a legend
Tejano Music in the 90’s was insane.
What a time to be alive
Thanks!

@elbombero420 why do tejanos go against their mexican roots and think they are white. You are a proud BROWN MEXICAN
@@doofwarrior9912yes MexicanAmericans born in California are Chicanos/ born in Texas makes you Tejano
@@doofwarrior9912some do want to be white so bad. Others like myself do not identify as Mexican because I’m a Chicana and am not accepted by Mexicans.
My parents drilled standardized Spanish into my vernacular so that I would not sound like a pocha and our family in Mexico would not make fun of us kids. I speak Spanish very well, but I can’t deny the Tejano culture I was born into. This was a great interview. I listened to Bobby Pulido growing up.
A real Tejano. Proud to be a Tejano and Mr.Pulido you hit the nail spot on.
Very well spoken, I can recall the 1st time I heard desvelado, I was at Las Pulgas in Tijuana, the crowd went wild with the song. I am Chicano and can relate to your story.
Wow that was amazing! Very inspiring! I didn’t realize how much in common we have and now I have even more adoration for your career and how you never let it tear you down but inspire you to be better!
Very inspiring, here in SATX people love this guy!
Wow I'm also very surprised. Dude hit it outta the park! Love the closing too.
Thank You Jesus!
Excellent Tedtalk! Your words of wisdom and encouragement for all of us and the new generation! Proud of your accomplishments and Grammy! ❤
Dang, why did this speech make me feel so emotional! Great speech 👏
Dude this was an amazing TEDx Talk like not just cause it hits a chord in my heart but because it was engaging, well spoken throughout, and delivered the expected effect. Love it 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Tan chulo Bobby! 🤠 ♥️ 🇺🇸 🇲🇽
Exactly why I'm proud to be Hispanic.
What a wonderful speaker.
Orgullosamente Tejana, but our state is changing and so many are offended that we identify as Tejanos.Whenever I am asked what part of Mexico I’m from, I love to smile and answer “Texas”. And also tell this side of the border, I’m a Mexican from Texas.
The best comment so far 👏.. feel proud of your heritage both of them ❤.🇲🇽
Wow! Just wow.

I absolutely understand where you are coming from 👍🏽🙏
Talented, smart and good looking as always! Desvelado is one of my favorites, found our the story about his amiration for Selena. God bless Bobby Pullido and his beautiful family!
This story is very true for us pochos. Especially the shame of speaking Spanish in an 1970s and 1980s environment. I remember as a child in Catholic schools in the late 70s early 80s being beaten by the nun/sisters in Catholic schools for speaking Spanish. I didnt speak Spanish for a long time and my Spanish is far from perfect. But there's a lot of us out here. Not blaming anyone but it is tough. And he is absolutely right. You have to be more Mexican than the Mexicans and more American than Americans. It is exhausting. Lol. Ni de aquí, ni de allá.
Que onda Bobby one of your fans from Califas Viva Mexico 🇲🇽 y USA 🇺🇸
El Piporro and Tin-Tan are very proud of this speech (Them both understood the pocho culture)
Beautiful speach. As a former Texan, this was awesome.
I love this so much! It's a lot of what our generation have to deal with.
I’m a native Mexican, English is my second language, I’m still learning it and it’s not perfect, when I came here I was 16 almost 17 years old so, I’m proud to be Mexican however I love the United States so much; I have three kids that were born in Texas, and I’m really proud of them I love to incorporate both cultures because we wouldn’t be who we are without both of them, but I stablished myself in the United States and this is where I want to die since this country has given me so much I would not change it ❤
Fantastic speech!!!
