    I have owned both. I started with a 000 but switched to the OM. I play mostly fingerstyle.
    The OM is much clearer and has more note separation for fingerstyle. That's my personal opinion.

    Great video as usual. The only feedback I would give is to say it’s a better comparison when one person plays the same thing on each guitar. So one maybe strums the same piece on both and the other person does fingerpicking on both.

    Cool stuff Coen and „easy“ Maarten! I‘am still in love with my E8OM Eastman I bought from you guys!
    I‘d love a battle of some 00 style guitars...maybe the Eastman varnish 00 style vs a Gibson 00 Model.
    Or comparing the Eastman E10/00/ss to its varnish brother. Exactly the same Guitar but different finish. would be interesting to see how much a finish can contribute to the sound.

    Triple aught for me here, just the right amount of string to string as well as volume and balance overall. Good demo guys!

    well I have both, the 000-28 has forward bracing to give more of a basis style sound. And the scale length lens to being able to bend the strings more for that bluesy playing style. The OM 28 you'll notice that John Mayer plays that and he picks with it instruments with it but to me and because of the scale length and the width you get it more clarity in the highs in the mids, less base. I love both and I play both guitars depending upon the song I see them as tools, can't wrong with either one in my opinion. love them both!

      The main difference to tone is in the bracing, which is 1/4” on the OM and 5/16” (like the dreadnought) on the 000. That 1/16” of a difference makes a huge impact.

  • @mihaelataut2229

    I feel like the OM is warmer but I think I like the 000-28 because of the shorter neck and it sounds more bright but not too much it has everything. The OM kinda lost the brightness cause of how the tight strings are on a longer neck

    • @chrizola1967
      @chrizola1967 2 дні тому

      Hi. I think the neck is the same length on these 2 models. The difference in scale length is produced by where the saddle is placed on the body, rather than the length of the neck 👍

    Coming from a guitar player who has a couple dreadnoughts I am very interested in the OM, I have played it and do love the instrument, but feel I should look at the OOO as well. Helpful as to what you said about the OM being a guitar for a person who likes to pick and strumming verses the 000 being more designed for picking due to the softer tone. I will still give the 000 a try, but more than likely end up with the OM. Again, thank you for doing this video, it was helpful.

    • @thefellowshipofacoustics
      @thefellowshipofacoustics  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for commenting Michael! The OM is a great allrounder, but I personally feel that the 000 is such a cool addition to a dreadnought. It does everything a 'D' can't.

    D28 reimagined vs Modern deluxe d28

  • @JesseDylanMusic
    @JesseDylanMusic Рік тому +1

    The main difference is the 000 uses dreadnought bracing (5/16”). The OM uses 1/4” bracing. That has a huge effect on tone, much more than the scale length (which also has a measurable effect of course). The top and it’s bracing are even more important than the back/side wood.

  • @davidscotbrown3241
    @davidscotbrown3241 4 роки тому +6

    The longer scale OM is always going to bring out more bass response, while the triple 0 will favour sweeter mids and high's. As you said idealy finger pickers... ooo, strummers, OM., but both are great guitars. Don't forget the OM-21!!

    Gotta go with the 000. Yes, a bit less punch, but a bit warmer and sweeter.

  • @RRStout
    @RRStout 4 роки тому +1

    It's almost impossible to compare these two, they both sound so great! I think the scale length makes the difference. I myself prefer the shorter scale length of the 000. I own a 1971 000-18, so I guess I'm a little biased. I think for this battle I have to side with Maarten.

    OM for me.

  • @macktheknife8443
    @macktheknife8443 3 роки тому +1

    Another important difference is the top bracing.
    The OM is braced lighter (1/4‘‘) and the point where the top braces cross is closer to the soundhole. Martin doesn‘t explicitly list it, because it’s the normal OM bracing, but the bracing position is called forward shifted bracing, or high x bracing, when implemented on dreadnoughts.
    The 000-28 is braced heavier (5‘16‘‘), and has rear shifted top braces.
    Since 2018 both use scalloped braces.
    I agree with what was being said about the perceivable differences.

    • @macktheknife8443
      @macktheknife8443 3 роки тому

      Let me add, the OM-28 was scalloped braced before 2018 as well. The 000-28 had non scalloped braces though, which they changed in 2018.

    Question: if you would capo the OM at the 1st fret and tune it to Standard - would it sound different to the 000. In other words: take the OM and whenever you feel for 000 sound do the capo trick. As usual great videos, i love TFOA

    • @reverb508
      @reverb508 3 роки тому +1

      That's a good question. I'd be curious to see a video comparison. My guess is that the capo itself would have an impact on the tone, especially on the open strings, so acapoed OM wouldn't sound exactly like an uncapoed 000.
      That said, I think the impact of scale length is subtle enough where the detune/capo at the first fret is unnecessary. Speaking from experience, the slightly shorter scale length doesn't make the guitar that much easier to play. It's certainly not going to change the playability enough to justify the hassle of using a capo on the first fret (I don't know about you, but my guitars refuse to stay in tune with a capo, especially if I bend strings). I've owned a D-18 and a J-45 which have a similar scale lengths to the OM and the 000 respectively. The difference in playability was negligible. If you use a lot of alternate tunings with detuned strings, maybe go for the OM to keep the tension a little higher, but really, both guitars should be fine for most applications.

    • @davidkyle5552
      @davidkyle5552 3 роки тому +2

      The bracing thickness is different between OM and 000, 5/16 vs 1/4, so that is also part of the tonal difference. Therefore, adding a capo still won’t make them sound the same.

    • @sidnewman7676
      @sidnewman7676 3 роки тому +1

      I own an OM28, and I tune it down a half step. That means to play in standard I often throw a capo on 1, and I can say it definitely doesn't sound like the 000.
