As a female veteran I'd like to say: Anyone who uses their military service to justify or brush off any sexual harassment or assault is garbage. Whether you are in the service or a civilian is irrelevant. That admin should know better.
Was Army myself. I don't think this person was in the military (probably would have no idea what a dd214 is!), and I really don't think the Rando was a woman. I think it was an alt account of the dm. He said Navy because he thinks most females join the Navy, over the other branches, and he talked how he thought a woman vet would talk (I've never met a female vet who would talk like that).
@@samanthacousland870 I was in the army too. Anyone in the service knows about SHARP briefings (or similar). If the admin was truly a service member you would think they'd understand. Every female in my former units I've come across has been the victim of sexual assault or harassment from someone they worked with. I'm pretty sure "admin" was just the DM too. Using some stolen valor bs to invalidate someones trauma is scummy. Pretty sure he thought posing as a woman would soften the blow or he thinks they would've gone easy on "her". What a creep.
@@quino765 SHARP briefings were a joke (in my unit at least... and we were MPs). "Ladies! Don't go out and drink to much, then do something you regret! Hey, guys make sure they're 18, check ID if you gotta". Absolutely pathetic

@@quino765 yeah. I don't think Military culture is ever gonna change (not with sexual assaults literally getting swept under the rugs and women just get victim blamed).
Sweet mercy, the DM needs to be avoided at all costs. As a guy, this was uncomfortable even for me. I hope the female players did find a much better space to play
Agreed. Sounds like this DM intentionally advertised his game the way he did *specifically* to attract the kind of players he did, the way he worded the AD, streamed it on Twitch, and then immediately flipped around and forced the one thing he wasn't supposed to even allow. Then "rando" defending the BS (it's actually quite plausible that "rando" actually the DM on an alt account)
As a guy I also had a hard time getting through even the first few minutes. I had to pause the video stand up and do something else almost every 30 seconds
@@flaredesel3425 Yeah, me too (actually typing this out during one such break). This sounds like some shitty attempt to "trigger the woke" or something on DM's part, and while I've called out overly excessive political correctness, this isn't it. This is the pearl-clutching of an sjw saying "all games are sexist, racist, and need to be fought". One, they joined up on the premise that they _wouldn't_ be dealing with certain themes, and while going into a public place/forum/etc and expecting them to tailor the platform to your needs just out of fear of being made upset is unreasonable, that's not what happened here. they were brought into what they were informed in advanced _was_ a place already tailored to their wants and needs and were tricked. Secondly, even without a pre-existing agreement that things like this shouldn't be done to your characters, I think 99.999% of people playing TTRPGs go in expecting their characters *NOT* to be raped, and that is a damn-reasonable expectation! If someone tried that shit with my character, I'd be on the warpath! Now, if a DM wants to explore darker themes à la GoT, and they ask in advance and everyone agrees to it, then, whatever their table, not mine - not my monkeys, not my zoo. This is a real encounter in Hoard of the Dragon Queen, and the "nobles" in question are supposed to insult the players, but not in the way DM chose to do it. The "nobles" are supposed talk shit about their dirty clothes and "low-birth" and do it under their breath in a not directly confrontational way. They purchase all the rooms and laugh at the party having to sleep in the stables. If the players choose to fight it is revealed that they are actually assassins in disguise. Nowhere does it mention making the players strip, nowhere does it mention sexual assault. DM is a garbage person, sex doesn't belong in D&D (especially if one of the players is a minor, yikes!) at all unless everyone agrees before hand, rape doesn't belong anywhere, ever.
I was wondering if someone would manage to surface a plausible source. The "it's a real module" excuse was weird, as blatantly lying about something easily fact-checked would be a strange move. It's crazy how someone can take such a simple encounter and make it so much worse, yet still somehow believe (or at least claim to believe) that they haven't done anything wrong. And the players started by giving the DM the benefit of the doubt even, he could have said "my bad, I see how that made you uncomfortable, I'll be more careful next time" but no. Of course he doubles down.
I just played HotDQ, must have missed the encounter (missed a few sessions and we might have just missed the inn altogerther, to be fair....Our party is a herd of cats) but I know we've run into similar situations where we had to watch what we said or else we piss off important, powerful people (Bobluck, or bog or something, comes to mind, we had an interesting encounter with him) who would only too happily swing a sword in our face, but I literally can not think of any scenario where the DM doesn't have to make checks and we dont get to make saves when that situation arises. Cant get my head around how "Grappling is a mechanic" can be viewed as a valid response, when the mechanic was literally removed...
OK slow down. I've seen somebody else claim it states the nobles strip the character's and send them out into the storm. Do you have the original print, is this true? Don't look for the words "assault" and "sexual" what does it say?
For anyone wondering the Reddit account has existed for 6 years straight. It has zero posts and it's entire comment history is responding to the people in the comments of the Reddit post trying desperately to defend the DM. It's so obviously his alt account.
Seriously, they're all far nicer than I ever could be, and their initial response was _ABSURDLY_ mild. Even when gong off in all caps, they only ever referred to it as "in-game sexual harassment" at worst when it was clearly some kind of ploy to get women into his incel rape fantasy.
Wow, those ladies were really well spoken and composed even though it was such an awful situation! I'm really impressed with them and I hope that they eventually find a truly good DM at some point .
"The DM let you walk away with your clothing and your belongings, and your lives. Most don't make it out so lucky" ....that sent a shiver down my spine.
That was the most telling line that "rando" said. Because in my experience, no, stripping people down is not common. Sure, robbing them is, but not the forced stripping.
@@huntsclan001 I mean aside from anyone wearing metal armor, typically their clothes are their armor. But in the case of metals they've typically just got like a linen curiass if anyone has thought that far ahead about their inventory. Otherwise pretty much just armor. They were obviously portraying themselves as female. These poor players, geez. I really hope they all find a campaign where they can properly enjoy themselves playing dnd without these kinds of freaks spoiling their fun and forcing them to recall their trauma.

That DM is the worst kind of creep, targeting women who had a low tolerance for uncomfortable situations with what appears to be the intention to exploit them for his own sick amusement
I have to say this now I have an idea for a nudist Druid in a dnd game now what I will do before the game starts is to tell everyone about this character and if anyone doesn’t want me to play her then I will choose a different character. I will not just play her anyway and just tell everyone to deal with it like this dm I will tell everyone first.
I have not experienced any traumatic levels of sexism and have never been sexually assaulted, but I feel for these women a lot. This DM needs to rot in a fucking prison for the rest of his life, and tbh I would be perfectly fine if his cellblock mates learned he did what he did, and he ended up not alive the next day. I wish there was someone to help them realise they should have all just left the second he called them "wet holes" I hope this sort of situation where people EXPECTED TO BE SAFER THAN USUAL FROM SEXISM and literally got the opposite never happens again, but it probably will sadly. Betrayal of trust is the worst delivery mechanism for someone to be abused, it can be so much more traumatic than it would otherwise
@@pinecone2214 that a little harsh but what he does need is to lose his twitch service and a background check to see if this is his first time doing this.
What also ticks me off is the fact that people are defending this DM when he had them be grappled and pinned WITHOUT A SAVE. This wasn’t a lost encounter, this was merely to fuel his perverted fantasy.
Exactly. The "game" aspect of it was lost when he didn't even allow them to attempt to fight back. Not that he should have put them in that kind of position anyway.
Yeah it was definitely a perverse power fantasy and less game rules, if a PC wants to a grapple a NPC they both have to roll strength checks, so logically if a NPC wants to grapple a PC there should be opposing strength checks, the fact there wasn't was a Red Flag, which got worse when the PCs are told to undress which is where I would have given the middle finger and left the game forever, but apparently these women have the patience of saints
Not defending the shitty behaviour, but just pointing out the terminology: It's not a save, it's an opposed roll. Grappling works Str (Athletics) vs either Str (Athletics) or Dex (Acrobatics) except when done by a creature with a specific pining mechanic (like an adult dragon) where the DC is predetermined for a save instead. Which means that it should've been even easier to escape than with a save and that even more choice should have been given than what was asked for. You know... just to point out how shitty it actually was.
I strongly strongly suspect that the rando defender was just the dm under a different account name. It's extremely conspicuous that no one else but this person responded to this thread is all I am saying
I have been DM for 46 years. My campaign is dark, sometimes horrific, riddled with sexism, racism, and all manner of "ism's". But they are all plot points and not tools to be weaponized against players. That darkness is written into my campaign to bring out the qualities in the players and their characters. To let their virtues shine, their integrity stand stalwart like a bastion of hope, and their efforts to look monumentally heroic. There is a point where ANYTHING you do as a DM can easily cross a line. The trick is to recognize the warning signs and pull back the reigns. I and my players are a team, concocting a wonderful story. No one should ever walk away from the table and feel so shaken that it affects them personally. If that happens then something has gone wrong, terribly wrong. I think that the players in that group should have stopped the game when that line was crossed. There is no dishonor in doing that. The covenant was clearly transgressed upon. They should have ended it right then.
Doesn’t the navy have like crazy rape cases and sexual harassment of women. Like it’s so fucking rampant that they have been queasiness a bunch about it and they continue to not do anything about it.

“They could have walked away” The DM said they’de be seriously penalized if they did that? And who can forget “this was not advertised as a safe space” when that’s literally what the advertisement said?
This exactly. Almost anyone who knows D&D knows exhaustion is just about DM shorthand for "seriously don't do this" due to how absolutely crippling and snowbally it can be. Even if the NPCs were supposed to be fought I'd argue the DM shouldn't have held that over the player's heads.
@@aegisScale Never taunt the players into a fight they simply cannot win. Not just that, but one you won’t even let them win, regardless of if they come up with good ideas or roll well. No saving throws to resist things are lame. Grapples count as attacks and the dm still needs to roll, even then, they can normally be resisted with a contested roll. This reminds me of the other video he did where the dm just rolls an investigation check for literally every single guard to find the players hidden weapons during their star wars campaigns. That’s like 50 guards or whatever? Of course one is going to succeed! DMs our there, don’t just play to feel like you “won”play to tell a fun and interesting story your players are gonna remember for years to come! As a dm of nearly 2 years, not a long time sure, but more than enough to know this: If I, or anyone else as a DM wanted you to lose, or for you character to die, as a dms word is pretty much always law, the dm could simply say a giant rocks falls on you and you take 432 bludgeoning damage. Or a lightning bolt hits you for 74937 lightning damage. Or you just have a heart attack and instantly fall to zero hit points and have to roll death saves. There’s literally no point in dnd if the dm plays to just, kill the players I guess. Unless everyone going in to the game is fully ready for that kind of experience and has a bunch of character sheets lined up, like how i’m pretty sure the tomb of annihlitation is if i’m not mistaken, then it’s not even remotely okay or fair in any way to do anything along these lines to your players. Give them what you advertised, nothing less! In dnd campaigns i’ve been in over the years, when the players , myself included, come across an asshole or racist, not only are they always a bad guy, but we beat them! Even if the fight was hard, like if they were a powerful warlock or something! Honestly I think the only thing you can taunt your players with that’s also dangerous is like a powerful item or secret mission or something along the lines. Not some shithead at a bar who’s actually secretly an assassin and his 6 assassin friends all hiding behind the guise of a noble. This is less “haha, you’ve been fooled! now we fight!” and a lot more “i’m going to taunt the players into a fight they think they could all win and then reveal that they actually have zero chance of winning, then sexually assault all of them to the point where they LITERALLY consider suicide as a better alternative to this!” Like holy SHIT. Anyways, I hope someone was enlightened or whatever from reading my rant
Going to be honest. I've started a game similar. I WANTED them to be tired cause I needed them to pass out and wake up elsewhere. Mostly because I needed them to meet the cult they were going to be butting heads with the entire damn game, and again they went into the bar. But that's where it ended in similarity. I just had their drinks drugged and the bar tender and one of the patrons join the cult. It was a cult that was trying to open the Abyss for the Eldritch horrors that were the obyrith, and I figured it would also be the best way for them to align with the Paladin Order I had created as well as shoe horn my own NPC (Cleric/Ranger who was secretly a high lvl Angel meant to direct the flow a bit) in their party. Start things off with an exciting escape/jailbreak. So I kind of, at the start was like, cool, similar story, then not so much.
@twheels Well. They lost all their starting gear. Cause. You obvs don't leave that crap lying around. Armor and all. Not like they lost their clothing. And they did get somewhat better shit in trade once they got back to the fort n all. But we were playing with the Book of Vanilla Milk and the Book of Chocolate Milk. So if that was triggering, they shouldn't be using those books for feats and stuff.
Rando: "You're totally overreacting, D&D is a harsh place." also Rando: "Prestigitating mud on someones face who just sexually harassed you is a serious offense!!!!!1111"
"D&D is a harsh place" No. No it's really not. It's whatever the party decides it to be. My campaign replaced the Death Saving Throw system with an injury system to deliberately make it harder for PCs to die. This makes scenes where players almost die more impactful because it doesn't happen too often, and slowly degrades PCs by use of debuffs caused by physical and mental stress from their line of work. Not every game has to be a grimdark rape fest where PCs are dying left right and center. This game is probably going to end with most of the PCs and important NPCs alive but retired, because that's what the party wants.
Players: It's not about the combat, it's about false advertising and triggering content Totally not the DM: That sign can't stop me because I can't read!
I watched a highlight reel of what happened. While the DM was having NPCs sexually harass the PCs he was giggling with glee as some of them threw their head set off in disgust. He legit said something like "I love that reaction, that's what I was going for". When the players inevitably enter combat, which took a weird amount of time to happen and also happened some point after the NPCs had already pinned and knocked a few of them unconscious, the DM was like "I've been waiting weeks for this, you've just been baited" it was so uncomfortable to watch.
Rando was definitely his alt. I highly doubt a woman would see other women being harassed via the campaign and try to resort to victim blaming. Not only that, but trying to use "I was a veteran" as leverage. Plus why else would Rando be arguing about it so heavily if it's the DM being referred to?
i mean, it happens, i see it from some (though by no means even a significant portion) christian women and mothers of abusers, but yeah rando was def just his alt
I don't disagree that it was his alt but PLEASE. Never assume that all women are on your side or are an ally. You may be unfamiliar with the term "pick me" but they exist. You may think that jealous hateful snakes don't exist but they will absolutely bite you. I've seen people who's allegiance lies with their wallet or chosen group throw people to the wolves even though by all means they should have their backs.
Let's be honest here: 1) This guy advertised in such a way that he would be guaranteed to not only have a party entirely composed of women, but entirely composed of women who would have a traumatically negative reaction to his material. 2) He then streamed the game, which would, hypothetically, make it quite easy to record and then watch back again. 3) He then used an alt account to repeatedly goad his victims into telling him how violated he had made them feel. This all screams "potential rapist".

Rando has 100% gone around safe, therapeutic, comfortable, inclusive spaces that strive for clear and open communication, just to find kind sounding phrases they can cloak themselves in as they break other people down. Saying "your feelings are valid" as they twist words and facts to belittle people over a made up version of what happened, that's just absolutely sick. It would not be a surprise if Rando has done this exact thing many times before, they seem practiced. It's so clear the DM was recruiting vulnerable women in order to abuse them, and it's starting to look clear Rando was in on it or at least wanted in on the abuse after the fact
Yeah that had me groaning when that came up. I've got ten years in the army with an Afghanistan combat tour and even WE, the branch that one would expect blatant harassment to be rampant in, are taking a hard stance against this kind of bull shit. Once a month or so we have a sexual assault class and have more awareness of this shit than "rando" seems to have.
I also want to point out that having accurate information is a big deal in the armed forces, and for the rando to dismiss their anger over being deceived and harrassed is the stuff of clowning.
It is *easy* to create a tense, engaging situation for the PCs, female or otherwise, that doesn't involve sexual assault, being treated like a sex object, and/or making the players uncomfortable. DM has no excuse. As a female DM, this stuff pisses me off.
I agree. Gender really shouldn't have any effect as it should all be woven in a way so as you can place any character in that situation. I don't understand the part about being offended over pretend racism vs a d&d class... unless the actual person was a minority and it was like, veiled as that.
Yeah, coming from a guy, I don't get that. If someone made me that uncomfortable, I would just leave. Although, maybe they're tired of just ignoring shit like this and HAD to say something, but still wanted to be respectful. Hard to do, but it's admirable, if that's the case.

His campaigns are 0% tolerance s*xual assult and 0% tolerance for misogyny. I’ve played two with him (as a guest and one as a one-shot) and he’s now finishing his THREE year campaign and are having their epilogue this weekend. 🖤

That’s fantastic! As a newer dm (well 3 years now) this persons actions were unforgivable, and I’m happy your boyfriend gave these girls the campaign they deserve!
That letter they write is heartbreaking in its kindness and timidity. As though anything other than "Not cool, sort yourself out and never darken our tabletop again" was required. And they still got ignored and overridden. Unbelievable.
This is the first time I've watched this video, and I thought the same thing when I heard that initial letter. At first I was growling at the screen, "Why are you being nice to him?! That is FAR more than he deserves! You're giving him WAY too much credit when you're saying he did any good thing whatsoever! Why are you trying to make him feel better?!" But then it clicked. And I'm kind of ashamed that it took me a moment. These women are accustomed to this kind of harassment all the time in their lives. They said so. And I'm guessing they've learned, through experience, that they'll be pursued and continually harassed by people (chiefly men) whom they have rightly told off for harassing them. And so they're trying to soften their words in the hope of protecting themselves from that further harassment. And like you said, it still didn't work. Yeah. A lot in this video made me angry, but I don't feel room for anger right here. This just hurts.
The DM guy just wanted a bunch of women that already had issues caused by trauma that he could target. It’s basically most male feminists, you can’t trust them they are just looking for pre-damaged targets that will let their behaviour slide.
I've played DnD for years, and I mean years. NEVER has SA, R*pe, or the like been allowed at the tables. its even safe to say that the ttrpg community at large heavily frowns upon such actions, even in the most edgy, dark, gritty and gorey campains and settings. Rando going out of their way to defend the DM is unacceptable, and I wouldn't even be shocked of Rando is just DMs alt where hes pulling an "as a black man" pretending to be a woman. I have actually read the "No Room in the Inn" encounter. It's in Hoard of the Dragon Queen/Rise of Tiamat, is a random encounter while you're with a caravan, has the "nobles" harassing the PCs for being unwashed peasants, no mention of stripping anyone, and was modified in the single-edition update to change them from being assassins in disguise to veterans in disguise.

I seem to be the only one that thinks the girls are exaggerating what actually happened. Assassins holding u in a reverse arm bar with a knife at ur throat is a very common image. Maybe the dm just didn't describe it well enough. So it comes out kinda creepy. It really just seems like unfortunately damaged women taking each situation the wrong way because of their trauma. The encounter is in the module. It plays a lot different then this though. The idea is there’s some arrogant dicks in this inn looking for a fight but their goal is to beat somebody up and make em sleep outside. I do think an older version mentioned stripping but it was of weapons and armor, not nudity. (It’s very early level so you aren’t losing good shit yet) The module even says that if you don’t pick the fight somebody else there might, they aren’t even singling the players out. Meta it’s a lesson to new players that they should not necessarily pick every fight because they are not the top dogs in these parts, there is plenty stronger and meaner out there. It’s not the best constructed imo, but this asshole turned it into something completely different.
@@yourdm2620 I found a PDF. It is indeed in "Hoard of the Dragon Queen", and NOT in "Descent into Avernus", as far as I can see. It's called "No Room At The Inn". i think its obvious that it was a lure for the all female team. The DM specifically said there wouldn't be Non-consent situations in the game and yet obviously lied. If you want to have a game with such content you need to specify that it will be there before you even start a game. DM lied to snare the players. likely to troll on twitch.
I just noticed crab said a minor was in that, and imagine being a minor and already be exposed to enough shit that you have to play in a safe environment, i feel really bad for them
I was 9 when it happened to me. This kind of stuff happens all the time. It's actually harder to find a woman who _hasn't_ been exposed to stuff like this.
"This is Dungeons and Dragons. It is not a safe space." Literally within the same paragraph: "Games like this are a great outlet for re-imagining better situations." I didn't even know it was possible for a person to be this contradictory.
It's certainly not a safe-place when they're in the game. So, they're not wrong. At least they're self-aware about how creepy and incel-like they are to others.
Its also funny because a grapple is a contested strength check, just because they are high level doesnt mean a thing. A level one can attempt to grapple an ancient dragon and still have a chance to do it. This person is just a complete idiot
@@Wolf-oe7ko The higher level someone or something is, the higher their strength modifier and base attack bonus are likely to be, and therefore, the higher their grapple modifier is likely to be. At least that's the case in 3.5, I don't know about 5e. But there's also a chance that the DM gave the NPCs unreasonably high grapple modifiers as well, regardless of level.
@@KingNedya that is true but they were rouges which focuses on dexterity, so even if they are level 20 most wouldn't have a strength of more then 15, also it doesn't matter what the modifier is if they roll a 1 and a player rolls a 20. The paladin should have at least had a higher strength score given that some of the armor they can get is minimum of 15. Also we don't know the characters races but I believe we know that the rogues where human so unless they took grappler or another feat they shouldn't be proficient in athletics. Also if the paladin was Goliath, which gives proficiency in athletics, they are consider a large creature strength wise which would require more then one enemy to pin her. Also I didn't want this to come out rude, just wanted to state that what the dm did couldnt be possible. Yes my point made it seem like I was saying the girls could have been pinned but I meant that no matter how ridiculous it sounds no matter what dice should have be rolled
@@Wolf-oe7ko Oh okay, now I see what you mean. Sorry I misunderstood. Yeah, like you said, dice definitely should've been rolled, even if the modifier was literally too high to beat, because at least it would have given the players _some_ amount of agency in that they at least tried, rather than, "Oh by the way you're pinned now, and are powerless to even attempt to defend yourself." Same for initiative. Also, out of curiosity, you mentioned, "that some of the armor [paladins] can get is minimum of 15," and I was wondering what you meant by that. Minimum of 15 what?
Ugh, seriously. What also grosses me out is the line "I am listening to your concerns and *attempting to help you understand the reality of the situation*." The players clearly understand that they aren't sticking around for more bullshit.
I couldn't help but feel that rando was throwing out "We hear you" and "Y'all's feelings are valid" like it was some feminist password that just makes everyone suddenly agreeable and pliant. They used that with all the tact of a corporate representative that knew people weren't happy with bad practices but wasn't willing to do anything to actually change the bad situation.
People not trying to invalidate your feelings don't have to tell you that they are not trying to invalidate your feelings. People trying to gaslight you... do.
"Your feelings are valid" (invalidates your feelings) "I am not victim blaming" (blames victims for being victimized) "Speak frankly" (but not like that) This. This right here is what I hate.
As a US Army Veteran myself, I'm calling Stolen Valor on the DM (I 100% believe the Rando-calrisian is DM Alt account), because no one who has served would ever use it as a tool in the effort to justify predatory, abusive action. And seeing the other lies the DM has pulled, Stolen Valor seems to be right in their wheel house of things they would do to save face, and continue to prey on the victims in Discord (where I consider trying to invalidate their feelings, while lying saying "I understand", trying to make them feel less, counts as continuing to prey on them)
While that's a great sentiment on the face of it, I must sadly disagree. "No one who has served would ever use it as a tool in the effort to justify predatory, abusive action." This would be nice, I would like to think I live in a world where this is true. But it really isn't. People who are predators will and have used any excuse they can find for their actions. Oh but I'm a veteran! But I'm a cop! But I grew up with 7 sisters, I can't be sexist! I have friends who are black! It's sad, I know. But it's also true.
People taking the "fuck your feelings" sentiment from the military into civilian life, and using their time served as an excuse for the mindset is sadly par for course from a lot of veterans.
@@CloaksCosplays There are people in prison right now who acted on the " fuck your feelings" thing. Wife beating, assault, fraud... a REAL LONG LIST! And some were veterans. totally agree with you.
I dont know man. I was in the Army when those rapes were being committed over in Korea by Army NCO's on fellow enlisted soldiers. Veterans are people. Some are good and some are bad. I would love to say that everyone I served with had honor and integrity and wouldn't do this to people but it wouldn't be true. That being said that is definitely an alternate account. I doubt Rando/GM has been in the military. Sounds like one of those people who wanted to join but were deemed physiologically ineligible.
“Your feelings are valid.” *proceeds to invalidate feelings* “We hear you.” *doesn’t listen to what the party is saying* “Hey, the issue with the campaign was that we were pushed into a situation that was diametrically opposed to what it was advertised as-it was filled with sexual harassment and assault, topics that were very familiar to us that we wished to escape from in this very campaign. This was not about losing a battle, but rather, was about the fact that we were extremely uncomfortable in the setting that was essentially forced on us. We don’t care whether we would have won or lost, but the sexual comments felt extremely unnecessary, as combat could have easily proceeded without it.” “Oh okay so a bunch of SNOWFLAKES don’t like the fact that they LOST and that the FANTASY GAME has VIOLENCE and FIGHTING and MUD THROWING IN IT.” It’s like, Jesus, is this dude even reading the same messages???? How do you pick like a single word out of one hundred, then abandon that single word you understood, and just repeat yourself while lying out of your ass about how you “understand” what the grievances are? What a fucking tool.
A slight correction, the campaign wasn't "filled" with sexual harassment and assault, there was a singular occurrence, by all means that's already one too many, but the fact remains
Honestly my rule of thumb is no sexual/romantic stuff at all when dealing with players I don't know. It's just easier to deny it entirely than to run the risk of making someone uncomfortable. At the end of the day not every game of D&D needs those things and anyone who thinks otherwise is a freaking idiot. Screw rando/gm (under the bs claim the are not the same person.)
What this person said 🙌🙏 absolutely, makes me uncomfortable and I'm the DM, as I have always said, take your awful relationships and sick sexual fantasies out of my game, you wanna run a weird sex dungeon game cool, not here, not with me.
There's a lesson to be had here: "Predators disguise themselves to camouflage in ways their prey won't suspect." Seriously, the jizzing mushrooms, 99% racist/sexist NPC's, and how this nutball advertised his games to where he was 100% guaranteed to get women who were negatively impacted by the shit he put then through; I don't know who'd have the bigger field day between Freud or Jung.
Also that the safe/holy spaces are the optimal hunting ground for these vermin. Not that the women were going to take the hint. When you're desperate enough for an escape to a bubble to be lured into such a trap, there's a chance you might be mentally unwell, ideologically deranged, or BOTH.

I know a great DM who always give a "no" card at the start of a session, so if anything makes you deeply unconfortable, you just have to show it to him and he'll adapt the plot and take off the bad stuff. No justification needed
The next game that I run, I'm going to take a vote during session 0 seeing who would like "no" cards or something similar. Then when I text the players after the session to schedule session 1, those who voted yes will simply not be receiving a text. I simply cannot in good faith allow people in my game that think it's appropriate for any one player to have the ability to change the game at their leisure. If the majority of the players have a problem with the game's content or the action of a player, then changes can be made, but it's incredibly stupid to give any single player that power. Using me as an example: D&D games that feature explicitly described sexual themes or actions make me extremely uncomfortable. If I want, I can politely ask the other players to tone it down, but if the entire rest of the table is okay with it, I can either deal with it or leave: I shouldn't have the ability to shut down an aspect of the game when everybody else is enjoying it.
The whole "it's a part of an official encounter/module" aspect has me equally parts disgusted and intrigued, and I admit I half believe it, because I remember doing an encounter eerily similar to that when I went to Adventurers League way back when. Virtually identical setup, party trying to get rooms at a roadside inn when they're too tired to continue traveling, jackass nobles/assassins much more powerful than us taunting, owning all the rooms, the whole nine yards. The only differences: 1. It happened in Hoard of the Dragon Queen. 2. The taunts/insults were much more tame and family-friendly (as you'd expect from an official D&D module/campaign) 3. The losing fight that ensued between my party and those assassins was actually lethal (party members falling unconscious, death saves, etc) until my DM pulled the "barkeep/owner is a retired adventurer with a flaming longsword" card to save us. My personal verdict (and long story short) on the matter: The bad DM did technically use an official encounter from a published module/campaign, but heavily corrupted it into whatever that perverted mess it became was.
yeah it is an encounter in Hoard of the Dragon Queen. But your person played it wrong as well its not supposed to be lethal its a no win fight. They are supposed to nock you unconscious in I believe ether the original play test or something like that they are supposed to take your armor and stuff it was meant as a very low level encounter to show the players they can very easily loose if they go Murderhobo
@@liljay300000 the designer of the encounter said that the Monster Manual hadn’t been finalized at the time the encounter was written and the assassins were supposed to be much weaker. Official errata says to use veterans instead.
@@avengingblowfish9653 That is indeed one way to run the encounter. But me and most other DM's I know use it as a way to warn and cut out murder hobos.

@@neoqwerty That in no way is the same thing. One is a dungeon that's only purpose is to kill the party. The second is showing that not everyone you come across you are capable of fighting.
I've been involved with four long-haul campaigns now. I believe only one singular instance of note comes to kind: a player character decided that the crimes of a bandit leader were so heinous, he had to respond in kind. Arms of Hadar everywhere.
I mean, usually not a lot unless it’s an explicitly sexual campaign. I’ve been playing DnD for a decade at this point, and outside of one explicitly nsfw campaign I was a part of as a horny teenager(Other players were also under 18, so no pedo), the worst that’s happened is a few mentions of sexual assault in a campaign that was marked as being triggering from the start.
In my 7 years experience there was only 1 scene where my Paladin had to leave her armor behind due to heat metal and later got cat called... Thats the Worst i experienced sexually at a table... None of them safe spaces
DM had us start the campaign thus: our party has been ambushed, seized, and raped (anally) by a gang of towering ogres. We were able to escape without any belongings, gold, or clothes for that matter. We then improvised some leaves to hide our hides and made it to a tavern. So, yeah. But we were all friends and men, so we didn't think too much of it. I mean, more than the usual "oh fuck, really man? that's nasty shit". Of course, hemerobiid hemorrhaging jokes ensued for our PCs throughout the game after.
Sounds like the DM was a twisted being that was searching for a certain group of individuals and preyed on their past using the idea of a "safe space" as a lure. This is just a despicable situation overall, and this is a situation where stating where this happened could save others from a similar fate.
I dunno, that wet hole and spunk mushroom thing sounds like he expected them to fuck in game. "Wet holes" is common in degregation porn, so he wanted to purposely belittle them for sexual pleasure. Likewise, leaving their clothes is humiliation. He preyed on women for his wank bank.
@@harleyengland3914 If they were living shrooms, you could argue it was acid or something. That would've made a good ambush. But spunk shrooms that are just vegetation LITERALLY are from fictional porn. Trust me, I played the game with it in. (I have no qualms admitting I'm a perv, but I still have more decorum that this creep.)
Yeah, the DM definitely seemed like he wanted to post the game some kind of incel forum. The whole thing felt really targeted... down to the decision to stream it. People need to be more comfortable with being rude. So many instances where I wish players had just left the session. Screw this guy.
@@lulospawn Woah, let's slowdown with the murder. But I do agree that this is diabolical and the DM should face some serious consequences. Like prison serious. Though if he was genuinely using this for that purpose then like, I'm not going to say he should die. But I'm not going to say he shouldn't
DM: "D&D isn't meant to be a safe space." Most of the campaigns I've been apart of: ... Guess what, D&D can still have a substantial storyline without including triggering topics. Who would've thought?
@@hithedragon7842 Cant do that though because we have to be "true to life" (despite it being a fucking roleplaying game where fantastical make believe IS LITERALLY THE POINT) and anyone who cant handle a realistic story is an oversensitive snowflake for *checks notes* Not Wanting To Get Sexually Assaulted. Mhm for sure, TOTALLY UNREASONABLE ((I'm sorry if this sounds like Im mad at you, Im really not, Im just...pissed at the situation in general))
I don't even play dnd but I can still about this stuff as just fiction and it makes sense that some people would make stories where there's no triggering stuff, where there is triggering stuff for plot reasons and there's triggering stuff for sexual reasons, but the problem obviously isn't that. The problem is that the dude said they won't have to deal with it but made it vague enough he could act like he did it all for plot or something, basically gaslighting them
I'm a writer. Well, I write. I like stories, sometimes dark ones with harrowing scenarios and themes, possibly even gruesome things - in an attempt to draw attention to how awful some people can be - but I have still never, ever, EVER felt the need to include themes of sexual assault! Slimy-ness from gross/creepy antagonists? Maybe. Implied, but unspoken trauma for select character backstories? Occasionally. But I have never written out a scene involving blatant sexual assault, feel no need to, and have tremendous fear of those that do. When it comes to DMing, I like to think of creative ways to portray the scum of whatever world we're in, but I want to make characters/scenarios that the PCs will get pissed off at, not characters/scenarios that will trigger the actual players. That is why I always check ahead of time to see if any players wish to exclude any themes, such as abuse, sexual assault, slavery, grooming, heavy gore, anything that would potentially keep them from enjoying themselves. The reason I don't cut those out by default is because some people want to play the Angel of Vengeance, who finally gets to live out the fantasy of giving those slavers, rapists, and abusers exactly what they deserve.
One of the first things they tried to do WAS LEAVE. but the DM said they would get exhaustion and it would be very bad. Right there, they tried to fricken leave.
Yeah, which is extra ridiculous when you consider that pcs camp out in the wilderness all the time. You don't need a warm bed to get your long rest in. Points of exhaustion are for extreme physical feats, like climbing an icy mountain or trekking through a desert under the burning sun, not for sub-optimal sleeping habits
This is what gets me. ANYONE who plays D&D long-term know how to read DM cues, whether it's knowing that the fact that they mention the light fixtures means those fixtures should be investigated, or the fact that the DM has a name ready for an NPC means they've been prepped and are somehow important. Any player knows that "You could do this, but you would all suffer X consequence," is a cue that this is not the course you're supposed to take if you want to participate in the adventure. Basically, the DM TOLD the players that they were supposed to confront the NPCs by signaling that the other option was discouraged by the gameplay mechanics. Not the players' fault at all that they misread the difficulty of the encounter, even without all the gross, harassy stuff.
"D&D isn't a safe space." Yes it is, that's exactly what it is, it's a safe space from reality. And if you make a game with the explicit intent of not including sexualised violence you can very easily not include it. I have played in a few campaigns and never had to deal with sexualised violence to anyone, male or female no matter the gender of the player. Not to mention that in my latest game which is an all male group one of the first things we agreed on was absolutely no rape, sexual assault or anything like that. It's not that hard, and you shouldn't need to say it. it should be a given that those things are kept out of the game,
You are correct, as someone who has things they would rather not talk about, DnD is a game I use for fun and to escape the world we are in. People like this guy don’t understand that and seemingly just want to harm people.
Been playing D&D and other roleplaying games for nearly 30 years now...and have only had *one* instance where someone (a player) tried to rape someone (a nun, no less). I was running the game, and I basically just killed his character. No save, no nothing.
Yeah I've been playing for 3 years, typically 2+ campaigns at a time and never have i experienced a situation revolving around sexual harassment, nor have I found a situation where the inclusion of sexual violence would improve the story in any way. Closest I ever came was my first session, we were baited into a fight by a rowdy bar guest who made racist remarks to our centaur, and we subsequently punched a literal hole through their face and got away with it because it was an "anything goes" type of town. That was also designed as a plot hook for me and that character's player to get used to each other (we had a shared backstory) as well as loop us into the main plot with a bang. It was also extremely validating to punch a racist so hard he burst.
Exactly! I’ve played for over 7 years DM and Player, Groups always mixed gender. We have dealt never had any sort of sexual assault or harassment at all.
I have a player who really needs to learn the difference between fantasy politics and real politics. I haven't even introduced the cross-kingdom or inner-kingdom fantasy political climate and they felt the need to crack a joke comparing a random low-int fast-talking cow farmer npc to an irl political individual. I play D&D to escape the depression of irl political climate, kinda thinking about dismissing them if they don't acknowlede a warning, but they're good friends with the rest of the party and I'm worried the whole game will crumble.
Makes me more grateful for our DM, we’re an all girl group with a male DM and he is always great and a great story teller and of the many many dungeons we have had no situation like this has occurred
@@leatcanned you mean in a good way like "maybe he didn't" or in a bad way like "maybe he did much worse"? Cause either way, I cannot possibly bust his knees, I just feel the want to
I feel like they did, because they basically started calling the DM a coward for hiding behind "her", but calling out a sock puppet account like that is pointless because they'd just deny it and start an oh-so-dreary endless ""debate"" on whether or not Rando is real -___-
@@matthewlane I think you'd be surprised by the amount of experiences that are very similar to this one. I can't see why you'd go to say that the story isn't real? It may not be, but if it is then you'd be invalidating their experiences
The scenario is findable by name (as mentioned in the receipts, "No Room at the Inn"), and it's a scene from Hoard of the Dragon Queen, and is well known to have been accidentally overtuned due to the encounter being designed before the Monster Manual was finished, and the scene has since been errata'd by Steve Winters (the adventure's author) to be more balanced. Also, unsurprisingly, there is no sexual assault/harassment in the original scenario, and also it doesn't appear at all in Descent into Avernus. So, DM's just a lying, sexist piece of shit all over.
It seems everyone's angle is "Boy, this GM is a creep", but I feel it's worse than that. It seems actively predatory to me. It is argued that the women "chose" to get violent with superior foes, but they were put in a situation where there were no beds to sleep in, but not sleeping was not an option as per the DM's comment (you'll get a point of exhaustion). In addition the NPC's had already done things that were not acceptable for a "women safe space RPG", with their comments, which in my opinion is exactly what this campaign should not be. Also, they had no chance to beat these NPC's, which, I feel, is a feeling familiar to many women, making the whole thing feel worse for them after the combat. It seems to me this was specifically set up to get some sort of kick out of it, and the whole spiel after was either to cover his tracks to his server buddies or to see if he could get some more kick out of this venture.
Exactly. It's one thing to set up an encounter that punishes players for getting into a fight. It's one thing to have NPCs that are dicks. It's one thing to set up the situation so the party has to choose between a fight or some mechanical penalty. But this encounter wasn't *just* any of those things. The DM intentionally and willfully used words, imagery, actions to evoke a particular kind of response. Not just a "we hate these NPCs let's kill 'em" response, but a response of discomfort and a response of distress *on the part of the players* not just their characters. And I think the DM absolutely knew what he was doing. He knew what he was doing when he invited a bunch of women to play a "safe space" game of D&D. He knew what he was doing when he picked this encounter. He knew what he was doing when he had the NPCs act as they did, make the kinds of sexist insults that they did. And he knew damn well that telling the PCs to strip naked was an especially gross thing to to do. This DM didn't make a mistake. This DM wasn't just tone deaf. No, this DM knew what he was doing. And he wanted to do it.
@@Lord_zeel why do people keep bringing up the encounter. When played normally, while that encounter is fucked in terms of a lose lose situation, there isnt mention of sexaully assaulting women, nothing about calling them wet holes, no insinuations that they would be raped, and no requirement to remove clothes after losing the fight. The encounter is harsh and since changes isnt even all that fun but it was never what this DM made it out to be
@@Lord_zeel Same. I also think the fact the 'grappling mechanic' was completly stripped of all its mechanics (no saves) and a totally lack of initiative rolls 100% shows the DM had no intention of letting them even attempt to fight
Right how is he claiming to be a "You can certainly try" DM, when he didn't give them any rolls? There is no trying w/o dice rolls, there is just the DM dictating what happens.
well there is some dms (more often used for encourage rp then just hack n slash) that allow players to try and if they are creative enough and explain/rp what they are doing, the result happens without any dice rolling
0:55 every DnD should be a “safe space”- just talk it over with your DM so you determine what each individual’s concept of “safety” is. Some groups feel safe doing *anything* and that’s cool. But that’s not every group.
"What do you want the GM to say?" I want the GM to say he will not GM for a woman again - actually for anyone, because we don't need him perpetuating the idea that this behavior is OK to other men - until he looks at his behavior and actually understands why none of it was OK. He should also apologize without expectation that the game will resume, because it most certainly will not.
"gutlessly yellow and beneath my contempt." I think I might be in love with the wizard, that was fucking SCATHING. Absolutely demolished this DM's alt account
@@flyingpaladin617 Touche. It may/may not be faked. But I gotta tell you, that woman has no respect for herself if she really believes what she's saying.
In the DND group I'm in, there was an NPC that harassed an NPC waitress. The party ended up going to court for triple homicide and the empress herself got us off without jail time, just a large fee
Yeah, the stupidity of this ass is astounding. Everyone playing in a D&D game is supposed to feel comfortable with what's going on in that game. And, while there is such a thing as overly sensitive people who could benefit from growing thicker skin, defending something that oversteps people's boundaries with some variation of "This is just how D&D is" means that you are a dick. The game can be anything, and if you can't run it in a way that doesn't overstep people's boundaries then you shouldn't DM.
Well this also shows that the person doesn't really know anything about d&d this is absolutely not how it is. D&D is fantasy, yes, but fantasy doesn't necessarily mean sexual, or violent, or deviant in any way shape or form. It also shows that someone defending this stance, is not a very good dm at all. As another person said, D&D can be anything you want, and should only be what everyone participating is comfortable with.
I have never seen a conversation so purposefully avoid the entire point of the conversation while still consistently responding on this level before. Whoever that "lady" was should be a corporate mouthpiece due to their skill at avoiding acknowledging wrongdoing when it's being thrown in their face.
See. In "that lady's" place, I'd have turned it back around on the girls by asking them who forced them to stay and subject themselves to the nonsense? Yes it was nonsense. Every single one of them had a right to be pissed and should have made like a ball and bounced the minute the game was not at all what was advertised. No argument about any of that from me. My mixed feelings come from the after-the-fact complaining. The girls in the group still have the responsibility to separate real life from a stupid game on the internet, do they not?
When I tried learning with my high school friends the only bad thing I remembering happened was I got shot in the knee with an arrow that had shotty physics but never did the dm do anything sexual.
The sentence delivery at 19:50 (ish) really broke a lot of the tension for me and stopped me from going into a trauma spiral so I thank you for that. I genuinely don't understand WTF the logic was in running this module with this particular group. Why did this campaign have any sexual encounter in it at all - let alone a forced one? In all the time I've been playing D&D I've never had a campaign with any sexual encounter beyond "You're in this small town for the night. The town has an inn, a brothel, a market, and a church, what do you want to do?" "I want to make some extra cash by working in the brothel for the night" "cool you make *rolls dice* 18 gold" I hope these women don't have to deal with this kind of bullshit again IRL or otherwise. Nobody deserves that.
“We don’t care about losing an encounter. We just didn’t like our characters being assaulted.” “Well sometimes you lose encounters get over it.” Rinse and repeat x4
I had a similar experience irl. Did a Table top and the only woman asked for reassurance she wouldn't end up getting perved on. Everyone promised but literally in no time flat all the other guys started acting like predators. Not even halfway threw the campaign I was terrified they were actually gonna gang r@pe her. I literally had my cell in my pocket open ready to call 911. Talked to her after and neither of us ever contacted them again.
This video was one big victim Olympics. Literally the dude is defending people who called a women a dog for disagreeing with them. Provided no physical evidence for anything claimed against them. And argued that it was racist to call an orc an animal. Like holy crap. I have very little interest in table top games. But this has pretty much ensured that I’ll never play it. Lol
"I made a safe space! It was a trap, there is no safe space." Cool plot twist, bro. Maybe just use the pre-written material next time? What a terrible excuse.
It just goes to show you, the safer places are the GMs obsessed in going towards the awesome over manipulative crap. People that squack out the "buzz words" for lack of a better term here might have evil things afoot.
to be fair, it isn't meant to be a safe space, it's also not meant to be a "dangerous" space either, it's meant to be whatever the GM and the players want it to be, anyway, that's just to say, I don't understand your response to that particular sentence, now the situation in the video in general I could understand being angry with, but that sentence in specifically? that just strikes me as odd to be honest.
@@Daredhnu @Daredhnu i think it makes me sick to my stomach because the dude set the space up specifically for them to feel safe and not have triggering themes and then turned around and did exactly what would be traumatic for someone whose possibly experienced it. I do think Dnd should be a safe space, most people want to just escape for a little bit and not think about IRL crap. I understand Dnd or other TTRPGs will have triggering topics, the RPG world can't be all sunshine and rainbows, but i think it's also important to talk with players after or before a game if possible to make sure there isn't certain things that might make them uncomfortable. I hope this makes sense, I don't want to make you mad with my opinion, I just feel that way because as someone who has had my own issues at home, going and playing Dnd helped me escape from all that, so I guess that's why I consider it a safe space.. at least in terms of environment anyway.
@@jubilantwolf9798 No worries, i'm not going to get upset about your opinions, I personally think the game overall has to be a fun experience for everyone at the table but that doesn't mean nothing uncomfortable can ever happen, momentary discomfort can be very enjoyable if it's followed by a release afterwards, clearly that wasn't the case in the video, that was just an asshole DM who went out of his way to pull the rug out from under his players who he lured in to his game under false pretenses. For examples of what i mean when it comes to discomfort being enjoyable just look at horror movies etc. lots of people find those enjoyable exactly because they cause momentary discomfort, but in those cases the discomfort is expected and people go in knowing they're going to potentially be uncomfortable during the experience at times. Also I personally have a problem with terms like "safe space" and the like due to certain people abusing the term to bully people, I've encountered far too many people like that.
@Platypus Or do what DM said he'd do in the LFG and tone it down/cut it so that it's appropriate for the group. But no, he took an encounter that, from what I've gathered, is meant to be a humbling experience for the players if they try to engage with it, but nothing more serious than that and turn it into a fucking sexual assault. He literally did the opposite of what he said he'd do when advertising the campaign. Which is just…amazing.
@@isaactraister317 it’s more to encourage players to think creatively, but the only similarity between this early encounter in DiA and what DM put together is that they’re both set in an inn or a tavern.

Why would you lie about the content of a module when it’s so easily fact checked? Oh and there definitely aren’t any mushrooms who release bodily fluids on passers-by.
@@isaactraister317 So, I actually looked up this encounter and it's inclusion was even worse than you think. It was a side quest from Queen of the Dragon Horde, and it actually wasn't supposed to be a "humbling experience". It was supposed to be a group of Young Green Slaads that were disguised as humans causing mischief. The entire point of this encounter was a twist that they weren't who you thought they were, and didn't expect to run into Slaads in that place. But then the writers were told they couldn't use Slaads, so they changed it to assassins, which, at the time they thought would be a similar strength. Then assassins got a massive boost and suddenly it was 4 CR 8 against a party that would be level 4 at that point. Even the author says it was a mistake keeping it in, as it ends up TPKing most partys if the DM doesn't help them considerably and hold back. It's even been errata'd to say that if you run this encounter, you should use use veterans instead. Oh, and at no point do the assassins get to grapple you without doing a check first
The constant "I hear you but, I understand BUT, your feelings are valid BUT" is irritating as fuck. I can't help but feel angry for these woman having to go through this shit. There is no room for 'buts' in this situation
This disgusts me. DMs like this are why I chose to be the DM for my niece and nephews, so that there first time entering this world I love so much isn’t traumatic for them. So I can teach them the right way this is all supposed to go, so when they get older and still ( hopefully ) enjoy it, they’ll know which red flags pop up and when to leave ipso facto, immediately
My friend was in this group. It’s really upsetting, especially because I’ve spoken to this DM and even sat in on a few sessions and they were nothing like this. Just showing his true colors I guess
I mean it makes sense if those other groups you were in weren't all-female. A group with other men isn't going to be as "exciting" to someone like that to force his rape fantasy on.
Please give your friend my condolences and if they're okay with it a big hug. That guy was absolute trash. Why was this DM allowed to be on the server if multiple people and a whole live stream confirms what he was doing was exactly the opposite of what he said and pretty fucking terrible? It's mentioned that that DM tried to get a woman admin to tell the group to just suck it up and expect to be sexually harassed. That admin should have kicked him immediately.

@@lukas8670 I would even go so far and say, "rando" (who is very likely a sock puppet account of the DM pretending to be a woman) deliberately used the term "your feelings are validated" to manipulate the players into agreeing with them. Rando never wanted to understand them, just that they change their views.
To people out there: - If you feel uncomfortable with what's happening at the table you're on your right to speak it up. - If nobody will do anything to fix it, or mock up a fix that is actually worse, you're on your right to leave. - Nobody has the right to make you feel uncomfortable. - D&D is meant to have fun, if you're not having fun, then it is likely because someone is screwing things up. If there's no way to fix it, then it's perfectly fine to leave and find a new group to play with. - If someone comes at you after you left to guilt you on your choice to leave, block them. You owe them nothing. You did something that is perfectly right. You prioritized your own sanity and mental health by avoiding that which made you uncomfortable. I've had the displeasure of playing with some somewhat awful people. And the luck of finding some awesome people to play with. I've been both on the player side and the DM side of the table. Only once I've delved into really dark things such as rape and torture, but it was as part of a plot, at the height of the campaign, and it was not directed to the players but to npc's, who had arrived at the altar of an old deity who was demanding a sacrifice in exchange of saving the village, and the deity was using its power to show them what was going on as a ways to lure them. And I avoided by all means to describe it, it was simply "you can see this bunch of soldiers raping and killing the villagers, you can hear their cries and sorrow" and that was it. And that was enough to make some of my players uncomfortable (who told me after the game, and i apologized), and minutes after that scene they had succeeded in awakening the power of a deity and had gained the power to come back and save the remaining villagers and kill each and every single one of the offending soldiers. (Also, I did warned it was going to be a rather dark and grim game). I've never seen any GM force players into anything sexual like that. None of the games i've played had anything like that. And even the one game that had something sexual on it, it was previously agreed on and was 100% consensual and everyone was okay with. This? what this guy did? is wrong, is not part of D&D, should never be part of any campaign. You simply do not put your players in such awful situations. Much less without previously talking it with all of them and having their consent to it. And again, if you ever are in a D&D game and you are being thrown into this kind of bullshit, just leave. Those awful people don't deserve you, and there's plenty of great people to play with. Don't let them mark you with an awful experience, give them the finger and look for a group that will give you wonderful games. Please take care of yourself, I wish you all great campaigns full of fun and fond memories.
It would seem to me that the best way to create a "safe space" for an all-female party would be to do a game that doesn't involve any sort of forced sexual interaction, or even the threat of it. You could provide the OPTION for CONSENTUAL sex with NPCs, but it would seem more productive to just make a story where an all-female party goes on a quest. Maybe don't even draw attention to it being all-female, just treat it as an incidental detail.
Sex just straight up should not be in a game that where people have not specifically gone into it with foreknowledge that it is possible and what is and is not off limits. If it just comes up, even in the most mundane sense, there is a good chance that the other players at the table will feel awkward about it and not enjoy listening to one player trying to RP sex with the GM. If everyone is not on board, it is cringey, not fun. And that is if it is entirely benign. Unfortunately many games are not a group of real life friends who are completely comfortable with each others sexuality, and so sex coming up in games has a way of immediately getting really, really weird and problematic. It is usually really hard for people to separate their real life sexual fantasies from their characters sexual fantasies, as sex does strange things to the brain. It is way better to just avoid the subject. Obviously if you are intending to do some kind of erotic roleplay, and everyone knows the boundaries and consents to them, that is its own thing and is fine, but that is an entirely different scenario.
Currently watching Dimension 20's The Seven and it fits this really well. There's 7 women PCs (6 women players and 1 man playing a DMPC), and D20 really doesn't do any graphic sexual content anyway. The closest it's gotten is a couple of PCs hooking up with NPCs in a fade to black scenario. I feel like it's really not hard to pull off. Also it's pretty incidental because the PCs are all NPCs from a previous campaign who formed a group after a shared experience from that campaign.
As a masc non-binary who passes for a cis-man, I think a safe space for an all-woman party would include a DM who is also a woman. That is the best-case scenario. I would not trust a man to carry out the task himself not just because of his own disgusting and uncontrolled fantasies, but because of his lack of necessary experience [as a woman] to understand the importance and function of such safe spaces. The least men can do is back off and let the girls have their fun and not be creeps when they have the privilege of having women in their own game.
Too many closeted creeps looking to explore kinks without consent. It’s ppl like this that make me fear dnd and social interaction in general for that matter.
"The DM let you walk away with your clothing, your belongings, and alive." Y'know, in more civil sessions, the clothing (and maybe even the belongings) wouldn't be an option to lose. Because nobody likes that. Or, nobody should like that, because people probably shouldn't be trying to get off to a freaking DND CAMPAIGN WHERE OTHER, UNWILLING HUMAN BEINGS ARE INVOLVED. Seriously, even if the assault was justified, the 'offer' of being left alive ONLY if you strip your KO'd companions is just gross and shady as hell, considering they are not awake to object to anything. And then the field of mushrooms??? You can't convince me this is anything but trying to put these ladies into his hand-crafted sexual fantasy.
Not to mention that there's very specific rules for grapples. Grappler makes an athletics check, that the target can contest with either an athletics or an acrobatics check. Not only ís there a check, the player even gets to choose what stat they want to use. All that went out the window, of course, cause the DM just really wanted to pin and strip a bunch of women. Not to mention they get to repeat the check every 6 seconds.
I'm not sure on that part. One of the reasons I don't play modules, there are often scenarios where the DM is specifically instructed to ignore basic rules, such as saving throws, contested rolls, special abilities players might have, basically anything that might make the scenario not play out like it's supposed to is ignored. Good modules offer a very abbreviated "alternate" scenario that effectively has the same results if these happen, but most ignore them outright. Also, it's not unusual for a DM to not allow rolls when there is no chance of success, even outside module rules. Honestly the "there was no sexual assault" claim is quite valid, and the whole scenario was SPECIFICALLY set up to make it seem/feel like sexual assault without there actually being any.
@Jake And Did you watch the video dude?? He made them BEND OVER A TABLE and STRIP. Whilst making SEVERAL overt comments about forcefully "taking" them. It isn't valid at all, are you seriously trying to defend this dude after seeing all the evidence laid out against him? If these people can't see how having women being bent over table, held at knifepoint and told to strip their unconscious friends clothes isnt sexual harassment or rapey or creepy then they are either lying or ignorantly and maliciously dumb
Creepy? Absolutely. Sexual harassment or rapey? No. You can find stories around this module where male characters are handled in the same way. There's even some stories where similar comments are made towards male characters. So many people are so eager to jump to the sexual harassment angle just because a woman is involved.
This makes me so angry, and I hope the people involved are in a better place emotionally. Honestly this is why I never got to actually play DnD before; any time I found a group they would either be creepy or pretentious guys. Heck, I became friends with a guy who seemed nice and promised to get me into Magic: The Gathering (I was curious about it) but then when he asked me out and I politely rejected him he avoided me at all costs. Also why I stopped hanging around in comic/game shops a long time ago. I would legit get surrounded by guys who would then 'quiz' me; it was so humiliating every time. Granted, those experiences happened a looooong time ago, but it always stays with you, and is definitely the main reason why more girls aren't as openly into 'nerdy' stuff. You can only be scared away from a comic convention so many times... :(

The only person defending the DM is the DM, with multiple fake accounts.

“They could have walked away”
The DM said they’de be seriously penalized if they did that?
@@FruitH. I mean nothing you've said is wrong so hey, mad props.
"D&D is a harsh place"
No.
Sex has NO PLACE in D&D without consent of ALL of the players AND the DM. End of story.

These women are accustomed to this kind of harassment all the time in their lives. They said so. And I'm guessing they've learned, through experience, that they'll be pursued and continually harassed by people (chiefly men) whom they have rightly told off for harassing them. And so they're trying to soften their words in the hope of protecting themselves from that further harassment. And like you said, it still didn't work.

Dm/rando: it was never stated as a safe space for women!!
Dude is just gaslighting his ass off
From what I'm gathering, at that point in the book it's supposed to be storming.
I'd be like, "fuck your railroad, we ride our horses til they die, butcher them for rations, and keep going on foot." DM should get hit by a meteor
"D&D isn't a safe space."
Yes it is, that's exactly what it is, it's a safe space from reality.

And he wanted to do it.

anyway, that's just to say, I don't understand your response to that particular sentence, now the situation in the video in general I could understand being angry with, but that sentence in specifically? that just strikes me as odd to be honest.
"This particular campaign is written this way, worse even"
Then why the ever loving flip was it chosen for that group?
I actually own that module.
It's not written that way.
@@isaactraister317 like it’s not ... this. There’s a lot I think everyone who watched this was livid about but that kind of thing really pisses me off.
Oh, and at no point do the assassins get to grapple you without doing a check first
I swear to god there’s a 99% chance the random woman is actually the dm
Nah... 1000%; that was TOTALLY the fucking DM.
The constant "I hear you but, I understand BUT, your feelings are valid BUT" is irritating as fuck. I can't help but feel angry for these woman having to go through this shit. There is no room for 'buts' in this situation
It's like the saying, "Nothing before the word 'but' counts"
Can't believe I agree with Dr. Phil on this one, but "When you say "but", you mean "ignore everything I just said, here's what I really think."
You are awesome
That's actually really cool of you, keep it up!

Please give your friend my condolences and if they're okay with it a big hug. That guy was absolute trash.
Why was this DM allowed to be on the server if multiple people and a whole live stream confirms what he was doing was exactly the opposite of what he said and pretty fucking terrible?

Their arguments had no solid ground as the ground there were trying to stand on was so full of holes it was basically swiss cheese.
@@lukas8670 I would even go so far and say, "rando" (who is very likely a sock puppet account of the DM pretending to be a woman) deliberately used the term "your feelings are validated" to manipulate the players into agreeing with them. Rando never wanted to understand them, just that they change their views.
To people out there:
- If you feel uncomfortable with what's happening at the table you're on your right to speak it up.
As far as I've seen most games and most dms don't force sex and usually sex is left out and gender is of very minor or no conquence
The whole “no saving throws” part keeps getting to me. Things like this are the very purpose of saving throws.
