    We all know that UA-cam re-encodes videos and makes them look worse, right? So here is a huge album of frame-grabs from my Shark Byte system, so you can evaluate the image quality. imgur.com/a/vgfUQIe
    These are direct from the Shark Byte DVR, which I believe is a relatively accurate representation of what you see in the goggles. (I used an HDMI splitter and HDMI capture card to record a high-bitrate version of the video stream and compared it side by side with the DVR. They were very similar.)

    Good job with this one. I think you handled the situation as well as anybody could ask. Thanks for taking the time to make it right! There's still RF breakup on the signal, but that's going to be normal if you fly behind vegetation at 200mW. It's looking really clean now when you fly in front of yourself. That was not the case before. Mystery solved! :-)

    To clarify, this will clip into my HDO goggles and give me digital clarity? Of course with appropriate tx on the quad. This will make the goggles work only with the digital platform and the analog transmitters that I have will be obsolete unless the Sharkbite portions are swapped out for existing receiver ? And, antennae? One unit at RDQ is what is currently available? Saw the interview with the creator, understood maybe 20% of his explanation but seems committed and knowledgeable (duh) and willing to do whatever is necessary to make the best unit possible.

    One racing issue for SB (or DJI) is what you do about live-streaming? Nowadays, you can buy 8 cheap vrxs, 8 omnis, a dvr, and stream a race. But for digital, that is going to be 8 not so cheap vrxs, 8x4 antennas, and some sort of multi-channel hdmi capture device. Maybe something like orqa connect is the answer where we all stream our feeds over wifi (sic) to race control.

    Much better, not quiet as distracting. It’s a shame they can’t build in some level of error correction that repeats the nearest good pixel which might help with the really big breakups. Unfortunately I’ve never experience any sort of interference from WiFi with the DJI system even though the area of the UK I’m in is swamped by it.

    Well, indeed much better. This is not DJI visual quality, but it is a different tool anyway. Seems colors improved - try to fly at different time of day - with clouds and dusk. Interference from 5.8 GHz WiFi is still not good news. Which mean that basically anything nearby in WiFi bands will swamp you with noise. I hope that this will get improved in future.

    I think currently shark byte is not very accessible. There aren't many drones which include it in a BNF format (maybe only Rotor Riot?), and the non-flash-sale price of the RX5.1 system is kind of ridiculous. When drones are more accessible, and we can get some decent whoops, etc... with the sharkbyte system, I think it will take off as a decent alternative to the DJI system. It can be used with many existing analog fatshark goggles, which will bring the cost-of-entry down for some.

    To those calling out Josh for misjudging sharkbyte before, I feel like his initial footage raises a very valid and real concern.
    It looks like the selectivity of the sharkbyte receiver isn't super great. The bands used by fpv *should* fall outside of the wifi bands. If he is getting interference from his AP (even if it's from spurious emissions), then other may likely encounter the speckles as well out in the field with others carrying around hotspots and the sort.
    It could also be that his access points are just putting out a ton of spurious emissions the concerns are in fact invalid in general use. I can't tell over the internet, it's just a though.

    • @PineyJustice
      @PineyJustice 3 роки тому

      Sharkbyte channels 1 through 8 line up exactly with analog raceband 1 through 8 and also DJI channels 1 through 8. In addition, DJI video does take a hit from wifi interference, it looks a little different, but you get more latency and more signal degradation. DJI just hides it with higher latency, compression and smoothing but it's not really any better at wifi rejection.

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  3 роки тому

      Look at an FPV channel chart. Race 1 through Race 5 overlap with the top WiFi channels.

    • @PineyJustice
      @PineyJustice 3 роки тому

      @@JoshuaBardwell Correct, and the top wifi channels are very commonly picked by wifi equipment, most decent wireless gear tends to use the bathroom stall method, lowest, highest, middle and then fills in with highest separation possible. None of the systems are magic, they cannot "reject" signal outside of using polarized antennas, if the interference gets higher than the signal you have issues. The real problem is when your 200mw source 300 feet away is being drowned out by a 500mw source 10 feet away you get issues regardless of what you use.

Who is engineering/manufacturing these boards o.O And that add-on-Antenna for the HDO2 looks like crap...) * keeps thumbs pressed this system improves *

      Since DJI can go up to 1200 mW where SB is at either 200 or 500 mW, DJI destroys SB. Even when put at the same mW, DJI stays flyable longer, although the image degrades somewhat.

      DJI is just as bad, it shows up as worse latency like 50ms+ & annoying jitter, don't fly anywhere near your wifi router or have a phone in your pocket doing wifi during LR flights... remember sharkbyte does no error correction, it spits the crud onto the screen as an artifact. What it receives is what it gets, there is no transmission packets from the goggles. Its overall a good compromise which can be avoided mostly with directional antennas, plus he was flying over his house dead spot.

    Okay but like, I have to turn off my wifi to fly my Sharkbyte toothpick? Are you going to turn off your wifi for every DJI flight? IMO this is actually bias for Sharkbyte since you altered the environment to improve the footage.
    If wifi interferes with Sharkbyte like that, then that is a problem with Sharkbyte that needs addressed.

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  3 роки тому +5

      According to Ryan, the main issue is that I was standing too close to the WiFi AP. He recommends being at least 50' away from it. WiFi will interfere with analog in exactly the same way, although the effect on the video is a little less distracting in my opinion.
