It’s now February and I’m still watching these two!!
I must express my admiration for how Layton assumed the lead during the switch. It was truly divine, and Nikita's blissful expression was captivating. Their smiles create a dreamy atmosphere. These two are the genuine winners, forming an exceptional partnership. They've been my source of strength during tough times this year. Here's to looking forward to a new year. ❤😊

So beautifully choreographed, I love how it allows them to show exactly what they're good at! For me, this is the best they've done storytelling wise. Then something completely unrelated to the content of this dance: I can’t get over how soft Nikita looks in this 🥹🥰
Let's dive into the stellar performance. The rumba, while not everyone's cup of tea, holds a special place in my heart. A touch more intensity could have elevated it, but the sensuality, chemistry, and passion were just right. The genuine admiration between these two is palpable. They've truly captivated me, they're the ones who deserve to win.

This dance really showcases their strong and beautiful connection and chemistry ❤️ Nikita gave Layton such sweet looks during the dance. And I love the tender and/or passionate touches on their faces and torso Nikita choreographed in multiple dances; very sensual and gives beautiful tension. 🔥
Did you see them interviewed on It Takes Two? Nikita said he just felt so happy for this whole dance, and like they were in their own world. And now I had to come back and watch again, and it's true he's got that dreamy look on his face the whole time. Genuine happiness.
@ericamacs3875 I just saw it :) Nikita said such sweet, loving things indeed ❤️ (and this time Layton gave Nikita such sweet looks during). There's so much love between these two :)! I love that Nikita is so emotional, open, affectionate and loving and that he can put that very well into words. I feel like Layton brought that side of him out more. Like being vulnerable in a very powerful way. I also feel like being around queer people can add to that (doesn't have to relate to it, but can be); because expectations, (conscious or not) of gender roles, behaviour, of masculinity just aren't "set". That can give so much freedom and space. Like Nikita following for a little bit. Being vulnerable. Or wearing heels like he did tonight :) boy they are both thrrrrriving in this partnership 🔥
@@Laurapeetje yes, and he was also the pro who has done the most emotional m/m pro dances, the one with Carlos last year and with Vito this year.
This partnership has definitely suited him, it's his season for sure.
He's very genuine I think. I love how they teased him for enjoying following, but it was true he leaned into it.
Not sure re being around queer people, in that, the dance world is very diverse so most performers are open and used to that world. And I also think a lot more people are open about sexuality and not to be pigeonholed, no matter who they're dating, we can't assume someone is straight or gay or bi or pan etc unless they decide to say, which they of course don't have to..
@ericamacs3875 oh I'm not assuming anything about sexuality; you don't have to be queer to tell a queer love story on stage and anyone can dance with anyone, no matter how they identify. And ofc if you're a pro ballroom and Latin dancer, you will have queer colleagues/friends. What I meant that, besides the main point that their personalities match so well, that maybe on top of that, dancing with Layton and him being so much himself, pushing societal "rules" aside, might have also been freeing for Nikita, or inspire him to question things like; why shouldn't I follow for once?, can I be the vulnerable one this time?, why shouldn't I wear that? Ofc these things can very much happen between a man and a woman :) (and I love it when they do :)!) But we tend to fall in more traditional role patterns more easily when it's man and woman, just because we're used to it or things have been like a certain way for ages (Like for example they're aren't as many women in dancing that lead or lead-switch when dancing with men, like there are men who (also) dance with men and switch in leading and following).
Oh and side note: YES, that dance between Nikita and Carlos: oof! So, so, beautiful that one

Probably the least ‘Laytonized’ routine but it was gorgeous.
I was expecting "typical" drama, but this contained, controlled Layton within the rumba framework was just exactly right - sensual without sexy. I am SO glad that he didn't wear a "female" costume for this dance.
The more I watch this, the better it gets. I was expecting something darker and more dangerous, but after the passion of the Argentine, this is perfect. It's so slow, open and vulnerable, both emotionally and technically. The camera hides a lot of the intricate balance/footwork required, but you can feel how they are just on the very edge. Wonderful how, for both of the most passionate dances, they're both dressed in a more traditionally masculine fashion. I love how Nikita has made sure Layton had a chance to dance every single mood, vibe and style - even putting some classic English waltz into their American smooth to make sure he's done it all.
Yeah I loved the clothing choices for their Argentine tango and Rumba as well! Layton rocked the feminine looks in the tango and the Vienese Waltz and looked beautiful in it, but I think it's also very powerful to see the passionate and sensual Argentine Tango and Rumba with them in masculine and non flashy clothes. To me it highlighted their connecting while dancing even more and shows how beautiful two men dancing together can be.

Agreed! I think the 'western' world still needs to learn that two men (regardless of sexuality) can love deeply and platonically , like brothers (even soul mates). Nikita and Layton have both very publicly displayed the real emotional bond that two men can share, which clearly many are still deeply uncomfortable with!!!!!! One of the most remarkable dance partnerships I've ever seen - but more than that, groundbreaking! An absolute joy to watch.

I have watched this over and over . Strictly is done and dusted but this was my favourite dance of all time. Good luck to you both in your lives.

I didn’t think I could love anything more than the Argentine Tango but now I have.
The fact that they dressed them the same as John and Johannes initially annoyed me but Nikita, with his blond hair and beautiful reassuring smile, this made him look like an angel. Lord, we all need a Nikita in our lives! Watching this is my therapy session.
John was in a blue outfit- Johannes was the one in the grey.

I was very nervous about this and I got tighter and tighter as it went on. I was surprised though! It actually went better than I expected! They had all 3 of my votes. I hope they are through because for me it’s just such a joy watching them! The song is a proper Rumba song as well! Lovely lyrics! ❤

Ok yes I feel like a 9 is a 2 for these two lol, I still loved it I just didn't feel as though Layton had this technique down as well as alot of his other dances but that doesn't mean it wasn't incredible. Without sounding patronising, this was special, as much as Johannes & John were brilliant I think Layton & Nikita have came at the right time, there's something so special about same sex dancing with a straight guy involved and he's not uncomfortable to be raunchy and romantic that is so touching and loud to everybody when alot of us in the community struggle with even friendships with straight people of the same gender, to see this is amazing. Nikita is honestly an absolute dream to watch and not only is Layton a technical masterclass on dance, he feels every beat and line and it shows in all of his movement. I've loved every second of their partnership and don't want it to end, it would be a shambles if he isn't in that final 😍. It did lack hip action but wow his hands, backbend and shanee turns were an absolute delight 👏🏻

yes, they dance nicely, but there is something missing, there is no 100% subtlety because there is no woman. each of them should have a partner - no man can replace a woman or a woman a man in dancing.

For me, I think of it as the dance equivalent of the technical section of the ice dance competition world. It's one of the reasons I really dislike this dance so much. That said, Layton and Nikita did do very well with it.
OMG - Layton's technique is AMAZING! Lovely. . .just lovely. Highest kudos to Nikita for perfect choreography, with no drama (which I expected). And the chemistry!

I’ve been excited to see them do a rumba and this was stunning. The subtlety went a long way, the fluidity was great. There was something that looked like a slight trip up in the footwork in the middle, but really a beautiful performance. (9)

Regardless of what the judges said - I absolutely loved this dance. Thought Layton looked very scared (understandably), but it's such a joy to watch and I know I'll continue to rewatch this in the future.

I love Rumba when it is well done. No other competitor can match Layton's expressiveness and flexibility. Having no curves, he is more sensual in his Rumba than most women, including Ellie (she is a very good but somewhat heavy dancer). Layton is absolutely amazing. ...(After watching the video again:) They are a strikingly handsome couple!

this proves he’s an all-rounder. beautiful footwork and the connection they had i don’t think i’ve seen anything like it. it needed more hip action but apart from that, perfect.

Hey 5th 6th judge here I give it a 9 to. Beautifully danced as always I think the lack of hip action possibly could be due two men dancing it because I did notice it was less saucy then I'm use to seeing a rumba look.
