WTF Am I Listening To? NSFL Albums (Volume IV)

- In this volume of my Not Safe For Life Albums series, I discuss works from Farrah Abraham, Reynols, and Nymphomatriarch. These particular selections aren't so much disturbing or scary, moreso just downright bizarre and unusual. Auto-tune, chickens, and ball-slapping sounds galore!

That's the second video i've seen of you and i noticed you're always saying " good evening " at the beginning... nice touch
Thank you! I always shoot at night, even though I upload during the day hahaha
Great video Dante, have you ever listened to The Shadow Ring? They’re an Avant Rock, experimental folk and spoken word trio who were active on the UK south coast in the mid 90’s to early 00’s. Might appeal to you!
I have not heard of it! I’ve saved a screenshot of this and will check it out
I need that Farrah album on cassette!!!
Talk about a collector’s item!!
Such an interesting video! I don't think I'll be checking out "10,000 Chickens' Symphony" anytime soon, but the others seem worth a listen.
Out of the three, I’d probably say Nymphomatriarch is the easiest listen!
@@dante_daggerActually checked out all 3 - I can see myself listening to Nymphomatriarch again (and yes, it is very *slappy*), but the other 2 were more interesting than I expected, too. Will be checking out some artists from your other vids as well - very glad I found your channel!
Now this is some weird stuff. Happy Christmas y'all.
Here is my personal recommandation of NSFL albums or tunes:
- The Grey Apartment, a noise project that use some serial killers interview samples. "Initiation" is especially sinister (with an Arthur Shawcross interview)
- The album "The Grand Guignol" by Schloss Tegal is freaking gloomy, the tune "Black Dahlia" made me almost physically ill the first time I listened to it
- Arktau Eos made some creepy stuff as well, I love "Geometry of Emptiness" and "Cryptomphalos" for example
- Ungl'unl'rrhl'chchch and its only album, as a total Lovecraft fanboy I appreciated the weird and creepy ambiance
- Finally, the drone band Svetlana made some weird and scary track as well, like "Pwcca (The Futility of Life)" and "...And then he died".
Thank you so much! I will have to look into these and let you know what I think!
@@dante_dagger Looking forward to that! Maybe one of them is worth appearing in a vid, who knows!
Love the hat. I spent the better part of the 90's brooding to Lycia's work.
My next video will be speaking a bit about them and some other artists within their genre!
@@dante_dagger Looking forward to it. Excellent content BTW.
I just discovered your channel and have watched all your NSFL volumes, subscribed to your channel and followed you on RYM, great content keep it up! :D

Thank you so much!
Finally got a copy of Abandon The dead end! Great content Dante
Hell yeah!! Thank you!
Awesome video. I’ll have to remember to check out some of these albums.
Thank you so much! I’d be interested in getting to know some of your musical inspirations and perhaps explore some of those works for one of these videos
@@dante_dagger Yeah I can give you a list of inspirations. I mean it depends on the project we're talking about when it comes to who influences me. So I'll do a quick itemized list really quick with each project and what influences those projects...
Human Capital is mainly influenced by bands like Dystopia, Big Black, Shellac, Disrupt, Whitehouse, Wolf Eyes, Lightening Bolt EyeHateGod, Anal Birth, Stormtroopers of Death, any project that Larry Lifeless is a part of…many other bands I'm forgetting about)
Malevolent Maelstrom is mainly influenced by stuff like Frank Zappa and Negativland I've also taken some influence from early Korn, Sunn O))) and there's some influence from Jazz like Charles Mingus and John Zorn and Naked City. Merzbow of course...I also took some influence from Chiptune music and New Jack Swing like Christopher Williams (I wish New Jack Swing would come back, I love that sound)
General Malaise and D.B.O are mainly influenced by The Residents and some other previously mentioned bands. Plus some Pink Floyd and Return To Forever influence thrown in there. Passport and other Jazz Fusion has been an influence as well. The Caretaker and William Baskinki have had an impact on me as well. So has Lydia Lunch. Oh yeah and there's this band from the 90s known as Medicine. So many great albums like The Buried Life and Shot Forth Self Living. Excellent band. You might remember them from their appearance in the movie The Crow. They had a cameo.
Charlie Allen and 15 and Ugly are just power electronics projects, so again Whitehouse is an influence but moreover my friend and drummer (for most of my projects) Dave "Nasty" Swanson is a huge inspiration to me I recommend checking his stuff out on Bandcamp. Dave Nasty is a brilliant guy who does noise and power electronics and noise rock stuff. He's great. So Shout out to Dave. I recommend his album Virtual Orphanage. You can find that on his bandcamp which is Vile Maxim Records (Dave is from Chicago)
And I have a litany of other projects that are inactive or there isn't much activity with them like Chagrin or Rai and The Future Force and Black Narcissus...that have influences from everything from Sebadoh, Elliott Smith, The Mountain Goats (John Darnielle is one of my heroes) and Dinasour JR. to Death Grips to Atari Teenage Riot. Really I listen to mostly everything. And a lot of those influences make their way into my music and it's just a messy amalgamation of outside inspirations and personal trauma and my day to day life.
Oh yeah! I almost forgot Daniel Johnston! I relate to that man and his music so much. RIP. Also Ahab had some influence on one of the most recent D.B.O albums.
Film scores are another huge influence love Carter Burwell and Jon Brion the score from One Hour Photo influenced me as well.
Just like a wig when I’m in the right mood
I hope that’s a good thing
Auto sub for the LYCIA beanie!
I intend on making a video about them some time in the future
@@dante_dagger they've always been so sweet in my interactions with them
great video dante!
