I completed the DLC last night, Promised Consort Redahn just felt like a pure struggle no matter what I did in phase 2. Every other boss while I might have gotten a little annoyed while learning the boss and had my colorful shouts of this is BS, at the end when it clicked and I stopped being a dumbass, beating them was satisfying. With Radahn, I just felt relief that I was done with it. The normal enemies being able to 2 or 3 shot me didn't phase me none, that was a little trial and error each time finding what move in my arsenal let me stagger them out of their attack and punish them. As I have a fairly balanced build my character is flexible enough to switch weapons to take advantage of a weakness if I can spot it. A lot of the base mobs are easily dispatched in one way or another, but are definately setup to punish hubris and lapses in judgement. Personally I blame the naked LV1 club no hit runs for this whole debacle. I am so glad there are people that have the time and patience to master the game to such a degree, but I have a job and bills.
I think the comparison to Midir and Gael is exactly what people need to see, when older games can accomplish being challenging and hard but fair there's no excuse as to why a new game can't.
I agree 100% as someone who has played every game in the series multiple times. The interaction is just too imbalanced for my favorite style of play. I feel like balance-wise, sister Friede is about the optimum level of difficulty. Insanely hard and a long fight, but when I died I felt like it was my fault. Melania would be right up there if she didn’t have a waterfowl dance that heals, inflicts scarlet rot, and can nearly one shot if you are slightly too close to her. Everything else about her is perfect. These are bosses with reactable moves, not too much screen noise, good camera, and where you can initiate on from time to time. Many of the bosses in late game Elden Ring and DLC attack strings go on for so long and have multiple routes and finishers that if you ever take melee range initiative, they input read and you die.
Let's not forget that everyone was complaining about the base game being too hard as well. Now no one thinks that. Also if you purposely handicap yourself by choosing not to use a major mechanic such a spirit summons you can't complain about the game being too hard. It's like doing a level 1 run and complaining you die in one hit. The game isn't balanced around your arbitrary idea of how the game should be played. It's balanced around all of it's mechanics. Choosing not to engage with those mechanics is fine, but don't expect it to be just as easy.
Extremely based takes friend. I just beat Radahn myself. I spent about 40 hours in the DLC, collected all 20 blessing levels, and spent 10 of those hours fighting Radahn. I found all of the other bosses in this DLC to be very fair and fun and also challenging, even if I still personally think they are a bit too fast with minimal recovery windows between attacks. Phase 1 Radahn was also very reasonable. But Phase 2 Radahn is proof positive that Fromsoftware has simply lost the plot. These games were never about being arbitrarily or extremely difficult. They were about being good and interesting and they happened to be more challenging than your average game as a result. But they were never this. Radahn phase 2 is an "impossible mode" mod type of boss. It will be interesting to see if and how From changes his design because the issue isn't really his damage, but his overall moveset. Just making him take a breath between attacks alone would do a lot to help I think.
I think 2nd phase was so extreme mainly because miquella is a actual god i don’t think fromsoft has ost the plot since there’s still many great bosses they just fumble final bosses a lot
thank you for talking about this. I feel like absolutely nobody is talking about the concerning direction From Software (and Soulslikes in general) takes at the moment. I played through all Fromsoftware Games since Demon's Souls (exept DSII) and I have come to a point where I will probably not finish the DLC because I don't want to play a game where I die in two hits from every enemy in the game. Even though I play in NG+ I feel like the damage is too high compared to the base game.
You made a good balanced critique, I agree with it all. I was new to Souls games when Elden Ring came out and since then I have played all of Fromsofts games, even armoured core and completed them all except shadows and its Radahn that's let it down for me. The best spectacle and most enjoyable fright of the base game and they use him for the final of the DLC? Screw the lore, most people don't play this for the lore. It is very cool though don't get me wrong, I love smoughtown, vatty, cruncy, quelaag and the whole community based around the lore but that's an extra bonus after the actual game. When she says 'my champion of the festival' i was so surprised and thought i must be wrong but then i saw him and i couldn't believe it. Lazy devs i thought. I was waiting for some twist or something. Still am haha. But I know there is no twist after googling cheese strats and seeing what the second phase was. I googled how to best Astel with a melee build once and that was the only time and now.Stuck on radahn. 40 plus attempts now. I was told I am not playing the game right on reddit and fextralife or just not good enough...not using summons or correct buffs and consumables like crab, pots, livers, meats, scorpion stew and the rest. I got here at level 221, maxed fragments, using maxed greatsword lions claw, alex shard, 2 hand talisman, double turtle and dragon greatshield and buff with golden vow, vykes lightning and bloodflame blade. I have defeated the base game on plus 3 with this build and all of the new content apart from Radhan. There are loads of cheese strats about but that would be losing in my opinion. I am hoping they nerf the fight like they eventually did in the original fight in Cailid.Best game I've ever played since GTA 3 and I've never been looking forward to a release as much as shadows. I even have an alarm on fromsoft news and miyazaki interviews and can't wait for the next game they release but this fight is so hard, I haven't even made it to the second phase. I'm not the best player, can't do no hit runs like you(respect bro and so fun to watch, have you measured your heart rate for them?) but i'm not a pro like you, i'm a chef in Aberdeen, fellow tarnished. Did you use consumables? To be clear i like the difficulty, expansions should be harder than the base game. I like the fragment mechanic preventing people steam rolling the game, i even like no trophies as the pvp community can be a bit toxic on showing off how they got them with no summons and if you don't git good your not part of the community, come on guys were not measuring dicks here. I like reading about how different builds work and how certain weaknesses in bosses or even certain summons against certain bosses give you an advantage, it's all part of the game design after all. It's also fun to mess about and is why I still play the game years later and will do into the future. I do sometimes use a summoner if i am really struggling, The finger boss i used one, fucking lazers man. I think the world is the best open level ever designed in a game. Its jaw dropping riding about, the art design is the best digital art ive ever seen, the way you can have millions of ways to beat the game is awesome, so many play styles. I love my greatsword! All in all 9/10 because i cant beat Radahn.....yet!!
Rahdan first phase is easy even the guy that made this first video said that get back in there and work on getting to the second phase!!!!! You got this fellow tarnished!!!!!!
@@mikeymishima7167 I defeated him! Had to respec to use Moores shield(endurance) and the Golden Braid talisman so my defence could withstand the first phase and my Greatsword did the job, over 40 attempts all in all. Now on playthrough +1, the scadu fragments carry over to new game plus which is cool. Kinda sad its all over but going for a wizard playthrough this time to see what the spells and incantation style is like. Wonder how long it will be until we hear something about their next game? Read an article that now they have over double the staff they had pre elden ring the next game might be within a year or two. Hyped!
I'm so glad that other's feel the same. I've spent thousands of hours myself on these games as far back as 2013 and I can't really point to any boss from the prior games to be "bs" besides bed of chaos or Capra. I really did want to like Consort Radahn but his super boss second phase really killed any kind of excitement I had built up from the first phase. I do think he could be perfect with a bit of tweaking to the light rays (why do they stagger you), but I don't think constant pressure and nigh guaranteed damage is the "challenge" we're looking for. wonderful opinions all around man 👍
I breezed through the DLC no spirit summons Radahn took me 2 try’s with 10 of the blessings but I have also played every single soulsborne game before Elden ring so I have more experience but complaining that the game is too hard because your handicapping yourself is crazy just use a summon. It’s not a big deal play how you want to play have fun.
I was playing with the giant crusher with heavy armor. I was able to beat most bosses... not Radahn... I hated it so much and almost just gave up entirely. Switched my build and went better but was still annoying and felt unfare. And I went in at 250 in level cuz I thought it would be hard but man even with max Scadutree fragments, I hated some of these bosses. I think its what you said about auto tuned bosses that I agree with most. The combos in the DLC felt like they were turned up from 3 to 5 and they could do them constantly. As a strength build guy, I felt out of place in most situation of this DLC. After seeing Radahn at the end, I couldn't stop thinking that we could have gotten Godwyn with a completely new move set.
I played through this dlc and beat most if not all of the bosses on my own, but the Scadutree avatar and Radahn I relied on players for help. And now listening to this video, I see now that I hate that I relied on players to beat mainly Radahn. I love this dlc and all the content that's in it, the bosses, lore, armor, weapons and spells. It's all amazing. But I had to use players to beat the final boss..now it sickens me that I stooped that low. When I wanted to beat him on my own.
Tbh outside Gaia's questional hitbox and hippo the only main boss I have a problem with is Radahn cuz in phase two he blinds the shit outta you making it hard to learn punish windows.
I gotta disagree with you cuz there are tools and weapons in the game that absolutely shred rahdan and his biggest weakness is the most op build bleed baby! I like it cuz you can make it hard for yourself or very easy also a shield with strength stat and a bleed weapon literally turns rahdan to a baby he can’t do anything 😂
My favorite new area is the cerulean coast but there's like... Nothing there. You fight a dragon and a death bird and it's mostly an area to lead you to new ones.
2:40 whether you noticed it or not is irrelevant, the fragments go up to 2x damage and 0.5x damage taken at level 20. In other words 4x character power.
Finished the DLC yesterday and yes it was hard but once I adopted my fun build and just started to enjoy the game rather then trying to beat it that I found my grove against Radahn using the deflection hardtear you get from the first wicker man I turned the game into sekiro with Radahn and yes it was a challenge and the NPCs are dumber then a sack of bricks floating in the new york sewer I was able to take him down. It's a hard fight but just like with Gael I simply took a deep breath and got gud.
This is crazy to me, I’m not a good souls player but yet I did not have a hard time with the bosses. Rellana and radahn were the only two that gave me a hard time. Smh idk man. I have a harder time with the godskin apostle (the fat one) more then the dlc bosses. Also I beat the dlc 3 days ago. Explored the whole map.
Not a single one of these "radahn is unfair" arguments ever seems to explain what that is supposed to mean. He has long comboes? Ok, and? It means your dodging needs to be better. He has light beams on his attacks in phase 2? Ok, stop backrolling. An unfair mechanic is one that the player can't overcome with skill. Like if they have two identical windups for two different moves with very different dodge windows that isn't reactable, that's an unfair mechanic. If an attack isn't telegraphed and one shots you that's an unfair mechanic. Buggy hitboxes are unfair. Shitty camera movement can be unfair. Random obstacles that stop you from moving or rolling, such as in the Gaius fight, can be unfair. A boss that is simply aggressive and attacks you a lot is not unfair.
It's too easy =\ Maybe I over-leveled a bit, I was at about Level 100 when I got there (140 now) and now that I've got a bunch of the DLC only upgrades it is even easier. I am loving it though- It's a beautiful environment. Rennala took 4 or 5 tries to take down- I feel like She should have been a lot harder. I hadn't played in over a Year before this playthrough too, so I'm no pro. I'm powerstancing greatswords focused on status effects (mostly fire but sometimes cold/blood/lightning depending on the enemy) I still haven't faced most of the bosses you mention so maybe I need to be learnt :P Also, thanks for the spoiler warning with that bad thumbnail- or maybe not.
6:15 There's nothing unfair whatsoever about Radahn. His attacks are super telegraphed. Your entire complaint boils down to "he was too hard". 10:30 you'll never master a second phase as much as a first phase because it's, well, the second phase. Once you beat it once the fight is over. If his second phase was his first phase then you would have mastered it.
second point is actually prett interesting, never thoguht about that. I will however say one valid complaint I've seen is that the visuals of the second phase are way too cluttered and half the time you can barely see what's going on because of all the bright lights.
some of the most obnoxious things i found is bales grab and radahns grabs. 9/10 i failed because i got double hugged or just insta koed by bale biting me at 95% hp and getting insta killed by his 2300 damage bite. personally i loved the dlc so far, i us summons cus i think its idiotic to limit yourself for "clout" but side from 1 fight its always been npcs. im currently stuck on radahn. literally just beat bale while watching your vid. rellana def was hard for me, but messmer i almost killed first time. i think its balanced but there is def some bs i wish they would do away with, mainly in radahns fight. barely have a chance to breath, whats worse is im doing this on ng+++ file so everything hits like a tank and has like 30% more hp.
I was too on new game +++ and I use the fingerprint shield and the cross-naginata to beat him, plus mimic tear, literally just poke him to death, put on some good armor, just enough you are in the mid tear plus some regen of stamina and health
Why on earth would it be dissapointing to see radahn again? Have you paid attention to the lore and how it fits with malenia and her seemingly unexplained campaign into caelid? Not to mention its a completely different boss with a handful of similar or same moves. It takes a character that everyine loves and answers so many questions about him. Just because you think he is "overtuned" because he is a boss in a game that isnt dark souls. That is the issue. Its not dark souls. Bosses dont reset and idle in front of you they dont continue a combo even though you are nowhere near them. They are an actual threat. Stop calling elden ring overtuned just because you are upset its not a dark souls game.
Agreed on the lore stuff. As for mechanics and what else, Saying Elden Ring isn't a souls game is like saying Demon's Souls isn't the bones of Dark Souls, Bloodborne, or Elden Ring. The DLC is great but also has some genuine issues with some of the bosses such as Commander Gaius who is: Tanky, Extremely mobile, and hard hitting, or phase 2 Radahn as explained well in this video. Both overtuned for what they were intended for. The other boss that sucks is Scadutree Avatar which has three phases. Three phases of.. boring. Not a hard boss, just takes time to chew through due to the DLCs healthpool. These are mere examples, for the most part the other bosses have been pretty fun. Dancing Lion and Messmer for example were difficult yet fair
Absolute baby. Maybe a week ago when people were deliberately using spoiler thumbnails for clicks knowing it would spoil tons of people, this would be reasonable. But dude it’s been a week. Everyone either already knows, doesn’t care, or should NOT BE BROWSING ELDEN RING CONTENT. Get a life and grow up. It was a good video.
The Radahn fight seems overtuned to artificially inlfate play time. Ive played every soulsborne game and he is by far the worst boss. Soured the DLC for me, was rather disapointed.
any whining on bosses before the final one is for sure a skill issue. i beat 3 first try tow of those being rellana and bayle. the final boss is the only thing at all in the did thst could use tweaked for people that just want to have fun and still be challenged. literally every other part of the game is perfect. your going into this fight as an elden lord on a game that has been out for years. everything in it should be difficult. a game for everyone is a game for no one.
Please tell me your NG level, build, and whether you summoned or not. Elden Ring has many difficulties, just because you played on easy doesn't mean the game isn't hard.
I don't think it's very controversial among fans. I don't want to sound like a gate keeper but fans of miyazaki simply don't make the comments made by detractors here. Or even just fans of the regular game. It literally works exactly like base game. Too hard? Upgrade, change build, mimic tear. Just like how they beat malenia. OH you didn't beat malenia? Then I assume you didn't beat final dlc boss... same as your base game experience where you also didn't beat the bosses. Why did you buy the DLC and expect different?
I'd personally wait on using spoilerly thumbnails as well as the big warning at the start of the video. I still have a good amount of friends who haven't even gotten close to the end of the DLC. Starting it with that thumbnail kind of destroys the purpose of a warning.
The only problem i have (and had with the original) is DAMAGE I dislike new style with all this fancy choreography, rollcatcging, delayed attacks... But i can overlook it, and even change my preference, if i apend more time with a game... Wich i can't, coz if boss three-shot me, i have no time to spend with him :) Sure, i can return and try again, we did it all the time Dark Souls existed. But should i? Someone luke Malenia or even Fire giant felled like a trolling back then. Like, yah, we both know, you and i, you will learn all patterns, specifics, nukes and crannies. .. But waht if you do it much slower, and would be interrupted more often? How d'ya think, partna? I thought back then it was pointless prolongation of the learning experience and have zero motivation to invest time in this learning instead of jsut use something OP like Mogh spear, or mimic tear. A feel this way back then, and i feel like this now (I'm only at the beginning of DLC but for bow it feels exactly luke original in thisbregard) The only thing i have any hope for os this new buff mechanic. Sounds like reasonable alternative to erasing bosses with op broken builds. Maybe this time i would be able to actually have fun with nosses. Tine will tell.
yeah! I play the DLC in NG plus and I still feel that the damage is too high as even the enemies do a lot more damage than the normal enemies do in the base game

Hard agree. I’m having a MUCH easier time learning Radahn than I did Gaius.
They also don't take advantage of all the tools the game gives you. Like there's a jump dodge this dude didn't even try.
i agree :) that's all i have to say lol...
great video :)
It's too easy =\
Maybe I over-leveled a bit, I was at about Level 100 when I got there (140 now) and now that I've got a bunch of the DLC only upgrades it is even easier. I am loving it though- It's a beautiful environment. Rennala took 4 or 5 tries to take down- I feel like She should have been a lot harder. I hadn't played in over a Year before this playthrough too, so I'm no pro. I'm powerstancing greatswords focused on status effects (mostly fire but sometimes cold/blood/lightning depending on the enemy)
I still haven't faced most of the bosses you mention so maybe I need to be learnt :P
Also, thanks for the spoiler warning with that bad thumbnail- or maybe not.
Spoiler in the thumbnail? Uninstall Premier
I would be mad at the guy but literally everyone else is at this point unfortunately
Spoiler in the thumbnail? Blocked and reported
Cry
Absolute baby. Maybe a week ago when people were deliberately using spoiler thumbnails for clicks knowing it would spoil tons of people, this would be reasonable. But dude it’s been a week. Everyone either already knows, doesn’t care, or should NOT BE BROWSING ELDEN RING CONTENT. Get a life and grow up. It was a good video.
The Radahn fight seems overtuned to artificially inlfate play time. Ive played every soulsborne game and he is by far the worst boss. Soured the DLC for me, was rather disapointed.
Best boss in the game, a proper challenge. Still took under an hour but at least he didn't die first attempt like most of the DLC bosses.
any whining on bosses before the final one is for sure a skill issue. i beat 3 first try tow of those being rellana and bayle. the final boss is the only thing at all in the did thst could use tweaked for people that just want to have fun and still be challenged. literally every other part of the game is perfect. your going into this fight as an elden lord on a game that has been out for years. everything in it should be difficult. a game for everyone is a game for no one.
That’s a skill issue on your part for having op builds and summons to beat those bosses
Good video ☺️
I'd personally wait on using spoilerly thumbnails as well as the big warning at the start of the video. I still have a good amount of friends who haven't even gotten close to the end of the DLC. Starting it with that thumbnail kind of destroys the purpose of a warning.
The only problem i have (and had with the original) is DAMAGE
I dislike new style with all this fancy choreography, rollcatcging, delayed attacks... But i can overlook it, and even change my preference, if i apend more time with a game... Wich i can't, coz if boss three-shot me, i have no time to spend with him :)
Sure, i can return and try again, we did it all the time Dark Souls existed.
A feel this way back then, and i feel like this now (I'm only at the beginning of DLC but for bow it feels exactly luke original in thisbregard)
The only thing i have any hope for os this new buff mechanic.
Why would you put the last boss as the thumbnail? Do you even care about anyone else's experience?
5:30 messmer was tied with scorpion lady for the easiest boss in the DLC, beat them both first try.
Nice spoiler in the thumbnail
It really isn't "controversial" at all. It's a hard DLC and some people don't like it because of that. That's it.
Nope, anybody who thinks this dlc is anything short of spectacular and the greatest dlc of all time is just bad and needs to get good and stop crying.
He beat the bosses goofy, so did I and I do think it is spectacular but I agree with him
What a wild take. Some people didn't like the lore, lackluster ending, empty areas and performance, no amount of " git gud " will change that.
