Seeing people play the other F-Zero games after playing 99 is such a breathtaking thing to see after such a long hiatus. I'm really glad you enjoy the series and share the love for F-Zero that we do as well. I have no doubt we won't have to wait very long for another F-Zero game to play.
I really freaking hope so. This time last year I sat down and forced myself to play the copy of fzero gx I found at a thrift store, I spent about two months out in my garage after work trying to beat the goddamn thing but is now firmly cemented as my all time favorite gamecube game bar none. WE NEED A NEW FZERO GAME SOOO BAD
I don't know.... Nintendo is still Nintendo, and their confusing dinosaur decisions always have to be taken into consideration. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the ONLY F zero thing they have planned for a very long time because Nintendo is terribly out of touch with not just their customer base... But all of the gaming community as a whole. Though I do so very much hope I'm wrong cause boy do we need a new one.
LITERALLY me. I feel the same as the guy who made this video. I loveeee fzero-99 and my only exposures to f-zero before was smash, mk8 and Nintendo land. But now I’m playing f-zero gx!!
You mention that you feel like F-Zero 99 is slower, and that you like how you're able to see further than in past games. Based on my observations, these two elements are very closely related to one another! The speed in 99 compared to SNES F-Zero seems to be about on par, reading similar clear times and top speeds for the machines. However, having a wider field of view and being able to see further down the track gives the impression that you are moving a lot slower than in the original.
For our sins we deserve eternity in hell, but God loves us so much he came as Jesus to pay the price of our sins through living a perfect life for us, his death and his resurrection so we can be forgiven and receive eternal life if we follow and obey him in faith FOR LIFE , Jesus loves u and desires to have a personal relationship with you of love, peace, redemption and obedience ✝️ May Jesus bless you, repent of your sins and turn to Christ before it's too late 🙏🏿❤️😊😊
Could not have picked a better clip at 14:09 to describe the brutal difficulty of F-Zero, I died inside watching you boost off the inclined turn into a tree.
I think GX is the ultimate meaning of F-Zero. It feels like you're legitimately a pilot wrestling to tame those wild beast machines and memorize those unforgiving tracks.
As a die-hard fan of the fastest, most punishing racing franchise in history of Nintendo, stuff like this really warms my heart. Seeing new people becoming fans of F-Zero after playing the other games loving them. Welcome the fanbase fellow pilot! 😃
I'm one of them, after playing 99, I'm obsessed with the F-Zero franchise, getting to seeing and playing the other games and watching the anime. I'm so invested in the world of F-Zero. 🎉
@@BlueThunderO7 Hey I have returned with some weird news that thought that needed shared. So recently (like 2-3 weeks ago) a bunch of F-Zero Soundtracks got deleted from UA-cam. Majority were from GX and Smash Ultimate. So maybe we are getting a remaster of F-Zero GX or a new F-Zero game.
F-Zero GX kind of ruined the futuristic racing subgenre for me. It's gameplay mechanics and physics are just absolute perfection, no other racing game has been able to give me that sense of extreme speed yet absolute control over your vehicle that F-Zero GX has to offer, it's just something that has to be experienced first hand to enjoy. I have played things like Redout, Fast RMX and Wipeout, and don't get me wrong, i've enjoyed them, they´re good games, however, every time I play one of those, I can't help but get this feeling of "this isn't F-Zero" It's like a curse you have to bear once you have played such masterpiece, that's how perfect I think F-zero GX gameplay is. And that's why im so happy that something like F-Zero99 exists, maybe it will be able to bring back some spotlight to a franchise that desperately needs it, and that has been long dead.
It is so wild to see a bunch of youtubers being enlightened to this series after so long! Growing up, my brothers and I cherished this series and we worked together to inch our way through the GPs and story mode of GX. but no one else we knew had even played the games, and we just couldn't' understand why this series went so unnoticed. I remember it took us almost an entire decade of on and off attempts between the three of us to beat GX story mode on very hard. One of my favorite gaming achievements.
The first time I ever played Fzero was back in 2003. I had gotten Mario Kart Double Dash for Christmas and it came with a bonus disc where you could play a track in GX. I remember playing it and being so lost and getting a headache. Fast forward to 2006 and I saw the game at Kmart and decided to buy it and try it out again and I instantly fell in love. Ever since 2006 I have put so many hours into playing GX and the other games. I have been telling people since 2008 how amazing the series and GX is ( GX is my fav video game of all time) and all of us Fzero lovers have been waiting for so many years for a new game for other people to understand just how amazing this series is. It is so refreshing to see that because of 99, people are finally starting to see it.
Really nice to see someone not trash on Maximum Velocity for once. It's not an easy game by any means, but it's not as terrible as some people make it out to be. By the way, losing speed while being on critical health was not new to MV, but it was carried over from the original F-Zero. Just thought you'd be interested to know that.
I don't get the bad opinions on Maximum Velocity anyways...I played it for years back then and think it controls really well. It's such an improvement over the SNES original, maybe aside from the iconic soundtrack which is hard to beat, but overall I think it's more enjoyable to play and has more interesting tracks. I guess most people haven't put a lot of time in it and just tried it for a short time...
MV wasn't bad at all, it's essentially and literally the next-generation sequel to the SNES original, I guess technically an "F-Zero 2" if you ignore the Japan-exclusive "BS F-Zero"... as the gameplay hasn't changed or improved very much, just the graphics went for pre-rendered 3D models digitized as sprites for the cars as all the tracks, locales, music and racers were all brand-new. I suppose the main appeal of it back then, especially as a launch title GBA game, was just being able to play F-Zero on the go... when that used to be unheard of at the time. Though to be fair, after the improvements of gameplay mechanics and track designs from F-Zero X, it did kinda feel like a downgrade going back to the SNES-era gameplay. It did however tide us over until GX was released.
Agreed. I think a lot of people miss the nuances that MV provides, being quick to play down the game purely because of the Blast Turn mechanic. I agree that repeatedly tapping the acceleration as opposed to releasing it conflicts with ergonomic design. But not all machines are made equal, and Blast Turning actually feels different for every vehicle. The mistake people make is thinking the acceleration needs to be _spammed,_ yet that doesn't apply to every vehicle. In fact that's one of MV's most underrated strengths: while the character designs per vehicle can feel underwhelming, the vehicle mechanics are anything but. Acceleration, Top Speed, Grip, Turn Handling, Weight, Boost Power, Boost Time, Speed Stability, and Jump Height. This really makes it rewarding to master a vehicle and go from meandering through each course to blazing through every turn and obstacle. And there were not just 10 of these vehicles to solve, but four master trophies to score for each one. Truly a rewarding game once understood!
Most people that trash on MV are the same people that never found out idling on the main menu for long enough gives you a tutorial video with control overlay. If the original F-zero is the introduction to the format, then MV at its highest levels is like a 'bridge' between the 2d and 3D games and actively rewards you for learning slide turns, drift turns, and of course blast turns. As someone who is capable of slinging the Jet Vermilion around Bianca City Ultimate without hitting a single wall, when it all clicks, it clicks *good* AND it helps teach you the basis for the more nuanced controls for the 3D titles... including slide turns, drift turns, and blast turns. There's a huge difference in how you approach X and GX machines like the Night Thunder and Crazy Bear before and after you play MV, as an example, and I *love* that aspect.
It’s so great to see others finally checking these games out and not just referring to it as a Smash Bros franchise. People always thought I was strange to say I don’t like racing games really but say F-Zero GX is seriously one of the most addicting games out there.
At first it felt like fzero 99 was a slap in the face to fzero fans and Nintendo chickening out. Now I see how great of a release it was and how much it brings the series into now.
I randomly played X on NSO recently and became instantly obsessed. I’ve never played an F-Zero game before. I always assumed it became obsolete with the popularity of Mario Kart and that’s why Nintendo basically let it die. After almost 30 hours of playing X, I realize how different F-Zero is. It speaks to me, I love the high intensity, the adrenaline that the game makes you feel. It’s something Mario Kart has never made me feel. I find myself suddenly very invested in F-Zero making a return in 3D with fully supported online play.
I love taking on challenges in video games, I've beaten Super Mario Bros. Lost Levels, Battletoads, Platinumed most FromSoftware games. However...THE ONLY CHALLENGE I have never been able to beat....has been "Save Jody" in F-Zero GX. It requires absolute perfection and precision that I have never been able to complete. I've put HUNDREDS of hours into F-Zero GX and I hope for the series this game can come back with its high-speed 30 player action.
This had to be like 15 years ago, but even now I can still remember the day I spent trying to clear "Save Jody" on Very Hard difficulty. I spent roughly 6 straight hours grinding that mission over and over and over again, only stopping to grab water or use the toilet. By the time I finally beat it, I didn't even have the mental or physical energy left in me to celebrate; I just flopped down on my back in front of the TV, heaved a sigh of relief and groaned "Finally...". Good times.
I think what's crazy about Chapter 5 is that the timing is 40 seconds but you actually get around 400ms after that to finish, however in the Japanese version of the game it is strictly 40 seconds, meaning it's marginally harder
Man... I cleared that on Very Hard, but struggled to get Chapter 7 (30-man race) on Very Hard. Never got that, and didn't complete Chapter 1's either. I do find it funny that the final one wound up being the easiest of the bunch.
F-Zero X felt like it was daring its players to call it lame. Guitar shredding? We’ve got that. Vehicles going over 1,000 km/h? We’ve got that. Aliens and robots? We’ve got that. Grid girls gifted with huge racks and F-Zero written on their tops on the menu screen? We’ve got that. Racing games produced in 2024 still running at 30fps? Oh, yeah ours is 60fps, enjoy!
Gx is so awesome for how personal it can end up feeling. It’s funny how much beef you can end up having with the other drivers, like how I’ll forever hate Dr. Clash for snagging first place in diamond master cup. Sometimes i plan out who i have to K.O so that i can have a safe point lead. Or those cups where you make the comeback of the century. It’s all so thrilling, and definitely frustrating. It just makes you feel so accomplished. Wish me luck, I’m finishing up story mode on very hard mode 🙃
Chapter 7 Very Hard- trying to actually beat it with no snaking or immediately trying to kill Black Shadow. The Old Man I help earlier hits 2 mines in a row on final stretch, and absolutely rockets into first completely crushing my will to live.
Good luck. I still had a few to and over the years i picked up the gauntlet again a few times... It's the hardest game series I know and played every title to the bone...
@@justasimplemanworkinghiswa1569 Blood Falcon just has great AI. It doesn't have infinite boost so his health will go down as he boost, and he will eventually have to stop boosting.
The best in the series! Be sure to try beating staff ghosts in time attack once you master the cups. You'll be amazed at the times you can achieve if you keep shaving off seconds and perfect your run. W MJ's channel is great for advanced techniques.
@@xavierchacon4612I started playing the SNES F Zero and 99 not long ago and I am now COMPLETELY OBSESSED with this game. I will play all of them for sure but am leaving GX till last. And I am 100% sure that Nintendo will definitely release a new 3D F-Zero game with mind-blowing tracks, graphics and gameplay and that it will come out on Switch 2 👍 🇺🇳🗽🇺🇦🗽🇺🇳
Dang. The first person to acknowledge that there's a difference between 2D and 3D F-Zero games :D In videos talking about the whole franchise, I usually see GP Legend and Climax getting thrown under the bus for "just being some small anime tie in games" that aren't full F-Zero games like X and GX, disregarding the fact that they represent a different style of gameplay. Just like the sidescroller and free roam Mario games or top down and over the shoulder Zelda games.
Damn, I wonder how many people became F-Zero fans because of F-Zero 99, because what you told is exactly what happened to me. I played the original F-Zero a couple times like 15 years ago, I played Fast Racing Neo on the Wii U and I played F-Zero X once or twice on NSO when it came out... but it never really "clicked", I never liked these games so much. I cant explain very well why that is, but I guess I didnt think they were good enough, I thought they were "just another racing game". I dont know exactly what F-Zero 99 did right, but it clearly did something very right, because I also didnt care very much about the other 99 games, but I loved F-Zero 99. I downloaded it just to try it out and when I realized, I was playing it over and over again, and having lots of fun, which made me want to go back and play the older games. I am now playing F-Zero X on the 64 and I am having a blast with it, it is very fun. I just cant beat the 4 cups on expert, but I am getting better at it. So yes, now I get why F-Zero is loved by so many people. It is truly a great franchise
I love F-Zero GX. After hearing you talk about playing it for the first time part of me wishes I could experience playing it for the first time again, but the other part of me can't handle the thought of how much work it would be to 100% it again.
Right? Getting 100% in that game was one of my best gaming feats, but I have a lot less time and energy than I did 20 years ago, so it’s simply never gonna happen again. I still have my Japanese save file to completion so I can still jump in and check it all out, at least!
This is one of my favorite series of all-time, and I’ve been obsessively playing them all since I originally got my SNES with the game. Seeing that 99 is getting people into a series easily missed is the greatest blessing, because truly, it’s awesome to see just how many great options are out there is amazing. When people see my Pico tattoo, that’s actually one of the few that doesn’t get as much immediate recognition, but now it’s cool to see people understand just what a classic Nintendo character he is!
Now that I’ve played several hours of 99, my thirst for a 3D game with online multiplayer has grown stronger. The gameplay is so addicting, and this is coming from someone who couldn’t get used to the original F-Zero, even after playing the bejesus out of Maximum Velocity. Maybe we don’t need 99 players, but 30 players would still make for exhilarating races. Something to note about GX is that it has a strong following of high-level players as well. Competitively, it’s kind of the Smash Bros Melee of racing games. The physics engine allows for tons of advanced techniques that pushes the skill ceiling of the game through the goddamn roof. I doubt that a GX follow-up would have those kinds of tech, particularly to keep online multiplayer from feeling too hard to get into, but that just assures that people will still play GX. Now to find an AX cabinet. I just have to have the full force feedback in first person to get the true F-Zero experience.
I've already played and own all the F-Zero games from when they were originally released and after playing F-Zero 99 for the last few weeks I have F-Zero fever. I need that rumored F-Zero GX port to Switch so flipping bad.
I'm born in '91 and got F-zero X as an 8 year old. I remember playing it with friends as a young kid, and them even just enjoying to sit next to me and watch me try to beat the death race in less than 2 minutes or beating the grand prix on Master difficulty - which I didn't do until I was about 12-13 years old (and how excited we got!!!). The music has always been really special to me, and is probably what got me into rock and metal. I remember struggling for so long trying to find a CD - and the overjoy of my friend finding a download of it! I still frequently listen to it. I remember all the machines and drivers - they feel like acquaintances - love the design, even though it's simplistic and old. GX has SO much to offer, and I've enjoyed it A LOT. But I've always felt the design and music, although higher fidelity, is less to my liking. I haven't played any other F-zero game until 99 came now, but I've always said X is my favourite game of all time. The nostalgia is strong, the music legendary, and the sense of speed and risk-reward mechanics are just addictive. I'm hoping the success of 99 finally makes a new modern masterpiece in style of X (and GX) possible! Thanks for this nice video, and glad you enjoyed the games!
you mention in the maximum velocity section that spamming the accelerate and slide buttons felt more controllable, and one part of this is a feature called blast turning, which increases your grip massively by letting go and pressing the acceleration, spamming this just means you have it for the period you spam. spamming slide isnt necessary here, in fact, just holding it is a better option. the reason you felt it have such a big impact here, is because its the most major in maximum velocity, being nearly necessary for reasonable times. the mechanic only exists in the 2d style games. in my opinion, maximum velocity still holds up insanely well for racing games in their entirety, even when its a relatively small GBA game.
I'm so upset that I wasn't invested with the series a long time ago, so many opportunities to play them. After playing 99, I went to play X and I love it so much!
Finally this series getsca bit of the attention it always deserved. Such a great series and its quite devastating that nothing came out since 2003 and now... The vehicle editor alone kept me coming back all those years. 1100km/h without boost is so nice^^
F Zero X will always be my favourite because I played that from the age of 7 onwards until I packed the N64 away. GX is an almost equal but the nostalgia of X wins out, albeit, just. I liked how the X and GX games kept expanding, once you thought you finished the game, something else was available. Think you've beaten the hardest level, think again, nailed those championships, here's a new one. Like it was a whole other level of dedication for a fast-paced arcade style game. The fact it was also skill based rather than luck or sandbagging, if you make a mistake it punishes you and it made you hone your skills if you wanted to succeed. I really want these games back in a purchasable form rather than an NSO form.
Man I own 3 of the 6 and have only played like the first race in each cuz I could never IMAGINE wanting to put yourself through the brutality of the whole franchise. You deserve a medal for this
F-Zero Maximum Velocity was the first game I got with my GBA back when it first released. I just remember it was hard as hell at first until I picked J.B Crystal it was the easiest machine to control. After using her for a while I was able to use the other machines better. I still remember the pilots were shown in the instruction manual, there are unlockable machines and Captain Falcon's son is actually playable in a machine called Falcon MK II.
I'm so happy that F-Zero 99 exist. Hopefully this tells Nintendo how much we love the franchise. I would like to see a new game in the style of GX. I mean they don't have to make GX2 or anything (unless they want to). I just mean a new F-Zero game that has a really good story and awesome features like GX did. As you can probably guess, F-Zero GX is my favorite F-Zero game. Although I need to get good as it again because I have not had a chance to play it for a long time until now.
I have only one gripe with GX’s story mode: Chapter 7’s insane difficulty. I’ve been stuck attempting it on *hard*, not even very hard, for a while, while I conquered all of the 5 cups in Master, and finished all other story chapters (aside from the first one I need to do it too) in very hard. I fucking love this game. It’s a blast to play through every time, and I’ll never forget The Skull’s Sonic Phantom carrying me to victory in his nervous, fragile, yet agile and fast car, exactly the kind of machine I like. Good video you made, and I’m glad you’re enjoying the series ^^
What F-Zero needs is an open-world spinoff that is Nintendo's answer to GTA, where Captain Falcon is doing various missions of bounty hunting, vigilante crime-fighting, and prize racing.
GX is by far the best. Definitely in the top 10 arcade racers of all time. My fav arcade style racing games are GX/Hydro Thunder series/Racing Hero/Outrunners/OutRun 2/Cruisn' series/Virtua Racing/Road Rash series/Asphalt 8+9/Mario Kart 8.
It's the only Gamecube game I own that I refuse to let go lol, I even have my old memory card in the case because it was hard as hell to unlock the 9 AX Machines I managed to get. Never did unlock Pink Spider because Chapter 7 nearly impossible to beat on Very Hard.
Great video man! Fantastic work! 👏I have F-Zero GX on the GameCube but never played it much back in the day. Seems like I have to give it another go. F-Zero 99 has been a lot of fun at least.
man, I felt the same exact way. I can't believe I am a newcomer to the series after being a HUGE nintendo fan and never really testing the waters of these games until f-zero 99. Always played a ton of smash and loved the fzero soundtrack on there but after exploring into the series, I am so in love with these games. Loved this video.
I grew up with the SNES F-Zero and have all the games. Love F-Zero thx for this vid. Also You can also unlock lots of mashines for Maximum velocity. Lots of cool cars. Great vid.
I'm glad that 99 made you interested and eventually love this franchise. It seriously needs to resuscitate. One thing that surprised me a bit tho is you using the Space Angler a few times. You got a new subscriber. Looking forward to seeing more videos.
Several pointers from a long time fan of F-Zero. Pull up just before landing from jump pads to maintain your speed, learn how to powerslide (X and GX), use side attacks to take out opponents, adjust the camera slightly above (default view for GX) it actually works better then the one you were using.
I am SOOOO HAPPY that more people fall in love with one of the best Franchises out there. I´m an oldtimer and playing F-Zero X and GX since Release and been always bagging for a new entry in thies otstanding line of games. Together, we will get what we deserve...
Listen to me F-Zero remake (call it whatever you want F Zero Switch, F Zero GS) -GX mechanics -X soundtrack and art -Online 30 man races -Weekly online Gran Prix with prices (customizables for instance)
I’ve only ever played X and GX. I suck at them but they are still so much fun. X is my personal favorite just because I like the music and art style more. GX is wild. You should check some speedruns of both games, but GX players are godlike at the game. And then you should check out Tool Assisted run where the game gets completely cracked open and you got custom machines flying so far out of bounds and still landing back on the track. They’re insane lol! Btw, you may already know this, but you can unlock all the Arcade machines and tracks in F-Zero GX. There’s actually a fully functional version of the actual Arcade game hidden in GX’s code that you can unlock with a GameShark. Great video and welcome to the F-Zero community!
Don’t mind me, just catching up on videos I’ve missed. I’ve only played the original, X, and 99 (which is awesome). I’ve always digged the vibes of the series, I would really like a remake of GX or something (or just a new game entirely).
5:45 this is also the core gameplay loop of 200cc MK, which is why it annoys me when people just say "the tracks weren't meant for it" and give up. The tracks were not meant to be intuitive but they are all possible to master to the point you can blaze through them. Also in 200cc you don't need to press brake 9/10 times, just drift earlier, a VERY common mistake a lot of people make ;)
18:22 Not the same, but some one did combine 2 other F-Zero games, they made a patch to remake F-Zero Climax in F-Zero X, so it’s a 3D N64 version of Climax.
This video was awesome. I'm so glad you were inspired to try out the series. I love this franchise to say it's my favorite racing franchise of all time is an understatement, it truly is my favorite Nintendo series of all time with Starfox just below F-Zero. Here are my thoughts on how I would rank the games. 7.) F-Zero 99 I'm going to be brutally honest here, this game kind of ticked me off. After waiting over a decade here in the West this is what we were given? GrandPrix locked behind timed events, forced to play online and can't even access the game without connection, no lobby with friends, and I just can't play the game offline and play Grand Prix whenever I want?... all wrapped into a paid online service game... honestly this feels like it's trying to be Mario Kart rather than actual F-Zero. I'm sorry, but I just can't...I'm glad we finally got something after all these years but compared to what we had in the past this is not it, cheif. To a longtime fan like me this kind of felt like a slap in the face just like the Mario Kart cameos or how Super Smash Brothers doesn't show the franchise proper respect.) 6.) Maximum Velocity. Just felt dated, but still challenging and fun. I really liked how they tried to do something different with the franchise and was disappointed as a kid when I realized that they weren't part of the GX cast. It would have been cool to see this next generation of racers more fleshed-out on the big Home console! But as the first handheld game in the series it was definitely lots of fun and I really enjoyed playing it on my Gameboy Advance! And of course after the disappointment of F-Zero 99 I grew to appreciate this game even more! 5.) GP Legend The game is just simply too easy. F-Zero has always been known for its difficulty and this game was just sort of a Twist in a bad way. It also doesn't help that zero test was poorly designed and getting gold trophies is actually impossible with certain missions. The game felt rushed. But still fun and glad I still have my original copy. I'm pretty sure if the unamate I then would have performed better and this game was given more development time it could have easily been more well-received in my eyes. Regardless of that though my brother and I enjoyed this entry in the series and thought it was fun to see a modern take on the moat seven formula along with getting up very early on Sunday mornings to watch every episode until it was unfortunately cancelled. F-Zero GP Legend was and still is criminally underrated just like this entire franchise has always been. Fun game with an awesome Anime. 4.) The original F-Zero Okay so I know I'm being bias here but seriously I just can't even begin to explain how much my older brother and I are adored this game growing up. While some people grew up playing stuff like Pokemon or Super Mario my brother and I grew up playing F-Zero. Like I stated before it was the very first video game I ever played. I will always have a soft spot for this game and it always will be my favorite game on the Super Nintendo. 3.) F-Zero Climax Unfortunately this was a japan-exclusive. But that never stopped me from getting a copy of the game as soon as I could. I still have my copy to this day with the original box instruction manual and everything. This game blows GP Legend out of the water. It is simply the better game with more fleshed out track design and better gameplay mechanics the game overall is just more refined and is definitely the best out of the Gameboy titles. I only wish that the game had a larger budget with more development time and if it was brought over to the US that would have made it even better! It's just a shame that this was the final game in the series and it wasn't even brought over to the western side of the world. Such an awesome game but just like F-zero BS Grand Prix 2, it was limited to only Japan unfortunately. 2.) F-Zero GX (All AX content unlocked) I know this is definitely the fan-favorite, and for good reason! This was the very peak of the franchise itself. This is definitely the superior F-Zero title of them all without question. However my biggest issue was just how demanding the physics are when it comes to the gameplay and just how absolutely brutal the difficulty Can really be. I remember this was the very first video game I ever bought with my own money and man was I glad! What honestly story mode on very hard and Grand Prix on Master difficulty or just too brutal for me! My older brother actually had to be the one to complete them since no matter how much I practiced I just couldn't do it I wasn't good enough LOL! As demanding and as brutal as the game can be I still love to go back to it to this day. I am so grateful that I still have our old memory card and it still had our original file! Such an amazing soundtrack with great graphic design even for today. I just wish Nintendo would have made this the comeback game instead of F-Zero 99...so disopointing. 1.) F-Zero X (With expansion kit) Man I was absolutely blown out of the water when a relative stopped by to give us a Nintendo 64 as an early (shared) birthday gift from my older brother and I! I was so excited because one of the games we got was F-Zero X! My brother and I were already so familiar with the first game we couldn't wait to dive into its official sequel! The four original F-Zero Pilots, as well as their iconic machines had returned on N64! Looking more cool and stylized than ever! Along with 26 brand new pilots and machines all with different stats strengths and weaknesses. We absolutely played the living crap out of the game as much as we could. Coming home from school finishing our homework and then playing to our heart's content. Getting better at the game over the years and eventually Unlocking The Joker and X cups as well as the rest of the vehicles was just such an awesome reward. ( especially the unique Victory quote for Captain Falcon if you're able to win master mode and get first place. ) I understand why g x on the GameCube is seen as the superior game and is definitely the fan-favorite I really do but for me this truly is my favorite entry in the series. It's just such a shame that the awesome expansion kit which gave us two brand-new Grand Prix cups along with a track and vehicle editor and an awesome remix of Rainbow Road all had to be locked behind the expansion kit that was once again exclusive to only Japan. Of course I got it eventually and I enjoy the crap out of it but man if this was brought over to the West it would have just been so cool! Thankfully I know a little bit of Japanese so I can get by with certain things that require translating, but it just would have been good to have the game in English or German. Regardless though I'll Always Love F-Zero X. I really hope this franchise will make its true Grand return on the next Nintendo console. It's been long overdue. Even though I myself don't like F-Zero 99 very much, I still play it here and there but it's just not the same for me. Though I'm glad to know the game is being received very well and that people are enjoying it! I hope it can get a full physical release like Tetris 99 did. That way everybody can still enjoy and play it years later even after the servers shut down so the game will be available forever in some capacity. But I really am praying and hoping that we can get a modern F-Zero full-fledged title on the next upcoming Nintendo console! And I hope it will have content that is the amount of astrox with the expansion kit or GX with all of the ax content. (None of that modern gaming BS!) Sorry about the very long comment I'm just so passionate about this series and now that it's finally starting to get attention after all of these years I feel like I can finally be open and talk about this awesome franchise without getting sh-t just because it's not as popular as the mainstream Nintendo stuff. Awesome video and I'm glad you enjoyed your experience going through the franchise! I hope others will be inspired bye videos like yours! (My top 3 favorite Pilots - #28 Super Arrow - Machine: King Meteor. #10 James McCloud - Machine: Little Wyvern. And my favorite! #19 Leon - Machine: Space Angler.) Thank you for sharing your experience with this video. Once again I'm glad you were willing to give it a shot!
I find it crazy how one of Nintendo's most iconic characters has been in as many smash bros games as his own series games (counting 3ds and Wii U as separate games)
It seems like in your f-zero 99 race, you got second because someone passed you in the skyway, if you look at the footage, you can see 1st place in the air.
for the longest time GX was my favourite but recently I've realised Maximum Velocity is. Each car feels unique, the controls are absolutely perfect and its so satisfying unlocking the Jet Vermillion by beating every cup on Master with every car and it's a 100% worthwhile completionist bonus too, considering how good it is. What you described in the GBA games is something called Blast Turning, where you basically spam the accelerate button and it helps you take corners faster. You can also drift in the opposite direction from a turn while turning into the corner to get a nice racing line. I know the game isn't for everyone, especially when you go from SNES to N64 then back to GBA, but I see Maximum Velocity as the perfect sequel to the SNES game. It's the same with a lot of F-Zero games. Hard to control at first but once you dial in the techniques it becomes amazing. Blasting round courses as the Fighting Comet with perfect racing lines is so satisfying! Just an extra point but I know you said you didn't play AX. If you complete all the cups on Master in GX you will unlock the AX tracks so it's worth doing and you'll get an extra cup out of it. The tracks are also absolutely fantastic! But the great thing about this series is that almost every game plays different and people will have their favourites. Glad you enjoyed the series and great video man!
The f zero 99 hype made me go back to gx. I was really young back then a'd really bad at racing games so I had the f zeros but any difficulty aside from easy was a bit too much for me. Going back to gx and conquering the story mode and (well, only ruby so far but) one master cup has been tremendously fun. It's extremely humbling just how mucj stuff there is in gx. Especially since the game hides it from you "Oh you finished the super hard story mode? That was only normal difficulty." "Great you played a bunch through the three cups, here's an extra one. Hope you didn't like walls too much." And of course the AX extras, even though they were apparently easy to unlock if connected to the arcade game, but having an in game, brutal way of unlocking everything is so good. Reminds me of the unlocking requirements of the jet vermilion in maximum velocity we didn't know about it and my brother managed to pull through all cups in master and seeing the jet at the end (as weird as the machine is to control though), that was special. I'm much more of a casual fan of f zero, but even as a kid the drivers the universe, and just how fun it was even though it was brutal, I never forgot. Hopefully 99 manages to give us the new 3d f zero the fanbase deserves. Seeing how most major franchise were able to break through new grounds on the switch, maybe f zero will finally get the entry it deserves!
I first knew about F-Zero thanks to a magazine, but still felt surprised by Captain Falcon in Smash 64, as I didn't know about F-Zero X. I played Maximum Velocity first, and the SNES was next. I got hooked immediately. And then came GX, 'nuff said. I later played X and it was great, too. I was lucky to find an AX machine, it was one of the greatest experiences I ever had with video games, let alone racing games. It even lets you change to a first-person perspective! Sadly, I could no longer find it after a while. Just when I thought the franchise was done for, 99 was released. To say that I was really excited by the reveal would be an understatement. Sorry for the wall of text, it's just that it's great that 99 has encouraged many people to take a closer look at this franchise. Great video!
I was recently in Tokyo and went to Mikado Game Center in Ikebukuro to play F-Zero AX. That game is seriously sick, such a thrill. I honestly prefer the controls to the gamepad on GX. Using a wheel and pedals just takes it to another level. Wish I had the arcade machine in my house...
Great video. I purchased a gamecube a few days ago just for F-zero GX. LOVED the original on the SNES. Plan on getting a retro handheld that plays N64 for the N64 version.
F-Zero X wasn't the first racing game running at 60fps. Even the original runs at 60fps. But it was impressive that a 3D racer in that generation with thirty racers on the track ran at 60fps for sure. It really is a great series. And I just wish Nintendo do a full return to the series like you said. Sadly, I don't think Nintendo is ever going to put in the effort to do this series justice in a full mainline entry again. :(
I grew up on the NES and SNES but I never really gave F-Zero a shot until someone modded the SNES version into widescreen. I've also tried GX using a texture pack and so far I've enjoyed both but I want go as far to say I'm a huge fan now.
The nostalgia rush as soon as F-Zero X came up... 😭 I played the hell out of that game on my N64 (rip), never really having access to an SNES and thus the original, and always wanted to try GX but never had access to a GameCube for it lol, but it looks awesome. 99's definitely taking me some getting used to, but it's cool that there's a new game in the series to try out, and that it's motivated folks to check out the other ones.
Watch the anime. I knew F-Zero thanks to Captain Falcon in the original Smash Bros, however it was when I watch the TV show that made me knew I had to play the games (which started with F-Zero X by the way) and the it didn't disappoint.
I really hope for a true GX sequel. I'm just imagining GX gameplay with some of the stuff GP legends brought (more racers, expanded story, locations, etc). And if they had a 99 mode as one of the vs. modes, where you could choose from ~50 pilots would be great, bring back Death Race from X as a vs. mode, etc.
So you know how in GP Legend the villain Falcon is chasing is called Zoda? That's not a new name. It's the name of the alien mastermind of thr Startropics series. Actually, you should play all of those. They've fairly short, but super charming.
Please if anyone has seen it recorded on to VHS the remaining dub episodes of 4kids F-Zero GP Legend English dub adaptation eps 16-26. Please archieve them. They are lost media and may have only aired in New Zealand! Or for Nintendo to stream it on UA-cam themselves
Don't forget that in F Zero X if you have the Expansion Pak, it has a track creator that's quite literally the tools they used to make the game except for a specific 3D Modeller
I think like many old fzero fans 99 was a bit of a slap in the face. But, im glad a spot light has been shone on the series. Its hard to seperate gx and x but at the end gxs music is just insanely good and also rich with features. Hopefully nintendo and sega can get together and make another one. Because together i think they made one of the greatest arcade racers of all time.
When they came out with F zero 99 - thought to myself we finally got it right , the original f zero is what I started with - I liked racing the other ones , I loved racing 99 - it brought up a lot of good memories playing the first one, two things that would be perfect , go back go back to the original f zero music 🎶, the second installment 30 cars - if we run that play I probably would never put it down ☝️💪💯
Seeing people play the other F-Zero games after playing 99 is such a breathtaking thing to see after such a long hiatus.
@@DeusSlayer I applaud your dedication, AGREED
I don't know.... Nintendo is still Nintendo, and their confusing dinosaur decisions always have to be taken into consideration. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the ONLY F zero thing they have planned for a very long time because Nintendo is terribly out of touch with not just their customer base... But all of the gaming community as a whole. Though I do so very much hope I'm wrong cause boy do we need a new one.
I also would say to watch the F-Zero anime, its amazing😊
LITERALLY me. I feel the same as the guy who made this video. I loveeee fzero-99 and my only exposures to f-zero before was smash, mk8 and Nintendo land. But now I’m playing f-zero gx!!
F-zero GX is essentially the greatest gamecube game no one ever played.
Star Fox Adventure would like a word with you. XD
Reminds me of GTA SA definitive edition making the map look small.
Yea it’s like trying to drive in a racing game in first person compared to third
Classic mode has the tracks be narrower and reduces the draw distance to be true to the og, and goddamn does Classic mode FEEL faster than 99.
That chicane wrecked me as a kid. I was so aggressive with boosting, I don’t know how many times I accidentally volunteered for the space program.
I think GX is the ultimate meaning of F-Zero. It feels like you're legitimately a pilot
wrestling to tame those wild beast machines and memorize those unforgiving tracks.
Mastering the game is so satisfying many other games don't compare to the feeling f zero provides
@@RacingMeyer8 you got that right!
It's simply the best racer ever.
Even more if you had the chance to play it in the arcade (F zero Ax) dude, you feel like captain falcon
That would be because it was made by Sega.
My heart ❤
It makes me so happy to hear an F-Zero newcomer falling in love with the series in much the same way I did :)
Oh look... a Talking Sock.
As a die-hard fan of the fastest, most punishing racing franchise in history of Nintendo, stuff like this really warms my heart. Seeing new people becoming fans of F-Zero after playing the other games loving them. Welcome the fanbase fellow pilot! 😃

@@CaptainFalcon07 I think they should just remaster GX and maybe retune the difficulty just a tad to be more palatable to modern audiences.
@@shsrpr Screw that, don't mess with a masterpiece. The difficulty is fine. "Modern audiences" have enough options.
Thank you Nintendo for bringing this series to a new generation. Most of us F-Zero heads are in our 40's.
20’s soon to be 30’s here
26. I may have been an ankle-biter in 2003, but I picked it up a year later and I’ve been in love with the series ever since.
GX really is a technical marvel even today. It maintains a steady 60 FPS going at ludacris speeds while racing 29 others at the same time.
@@Galiaverse I got all 40 master trophies, and I regret NOTHING. It just made me appreciate the game even more.
Man... these games are even more awesome than I thought, honestly
You should play them
It’s so great to see others finally checking these games out and not just referring to it as a Smash Bros franchise.
This may lead to a new 3D fzeron game to boot
I love this video. I hope the next entry keeps the brutal nature of GX. No gimmicks. Just skill.
Control is better on the N64 (analog stick sensitivity). I'm a lifelong fan of the game. Nintendo has ignored F-Zero for 2 decades. But we can dream.
IMO a full and fully mind-blowing sequel to GX will definitely be released by Nintendo on Switch 2 👍 🇺🇳🗽🇺🇦🗽🇺🇳
I feel like Nintendo backed themselves into a corner when they released F-Zero 99, because now pretty much everyone wants a new game in the franchise.
Good times.
I think what's crazy about Chapter 5 is that the timing is 40 seconds but you actually get around 400ms after that to finish, however in the Japanese version of the game it is strictly 40 seconds, meaning it's marginally harder
if you couldn't get past chapter 5... that would mean you haven't got to the infamous Chapter 7. Oh boy.
I recently booted up GX again to see if I could beat Save Jody on Very Hard, now that I have about 20 more years of gaming experience.
I could not.
Really makes you feel like the former bounty hunter that captain falcon is
Chapter 7 Very Hard- trying to actually beat it with no snaking or immediately trying to kill Black Shadow.
The Old Man I help earlier hits 2 mines in a row on final stretch, and absolutely rockets into first completely crushing my will to live.
Good luck. I still had a few to and over the years i picked up the gauntlet again a few times... It's the hardest game series I know and played every title to the bone...
@@whichDudeeven if you kill black shadow blood falcon is still an absolute menace on the track
@@justasimplemanworkinghiswa1569 Blood Falcon just has great AI. It doesn't have infinite boost so his health will go down as he boost, and he will eventually have to stop boosting.

If you ever get the chance you gotta try GX
The best in the series! Be sure to try beating staff ghosts in time attack once you master the cups. You'll be amazed at the times you can achieve if you keep shaving off seconds and perfect your run. W MJ's channel is great for advanced techniques.
Heard the analog stick is too sensitive on Switch. Same deal on Wii U. Makes a big difference. You need those precise controls for mastery.
Same here.. this is my first year as a F-Zero fan!
Best fun racing series of all time.
Dang. The first person to acknowledge that there's a difference between 2D and 3D F-Zero games :D
In videos talking about the whole franchise, I usually see GP Legend and Climax getting thrown under the bus for "just being some small anime tie in games" that aren't full F-Zero games like X and GX, disregarding the fact that they represent a different style of gameplay. Just like the sidescroller and free roam Mario games or top down and over the shoulder Zelda games.
The designs in the karts/aircraft’s/death rockets in the series is so great. Music is as well. I will forever love Shotgun Kiss and Zen
Shotgun Kiss, Osc Sync Carnival, For The Glory, Infinite Blue and Feel Our Pain is my top five favorite GX songs

You got skyway robbed. The player on the skyway passed the finish first, the camera just didn't see it from the angle.
A true masterpiece. One of my favorite games of all time.
I can't even think about gx to this day without getting chills all over my body.
I will only say that i have never been so addicted to a game as to F-Zero 99, i just cannot stop
Great video! F-Zero 99 really hooked me, and I should definitely give the other games available on NSO a try soon!
you mention in the maximum velocity section that spamming the accelerate and slide buttons felt more controllable, and one part of this is a feature called blast turning, which increases your grip massively by letting go and pressing the acceleration, spamming this just means you have it for the period you spam. spamming slide isnt necessary here, in fact, just holding it is a better option.
the reason you felt it have such a big impact here, is because its the most major in maximum velocity, being nearly necessary for reasonable times. the mechanic only exists in the 2d style games.
in my opinion, maximum velocity still holds up insanely well for racing games in their entirety, even when its a relatively small GBA game.
Speaking of music in GX, Aeropolis final lap hit WAYYYY too hard, imo. ❤
I really need to try gx
You deserve a medal for this
I recommend putting yourself through it, especially for X and GX, it's so rewarding
F-zero climax was a monster of videogame for such small console. Definitely my second favorite
Even now, F Zero GX feels like a game from the future.
F zero GX may be my favorite video game of all time. Its just so much fun
What F-Zero needs is an open-world spinoff that is Nintendo's answer to GTA,
where Captain Falcon is doing various missions of bounty hunting, vigilante crime-fighting, and prize racing.
Would be pretty cool
GX is by far the best. Definitely in the top 10 arcade racers of all time. My fav arcade style racing games are GX/Hydro Thunder series/Racing Hero/Outrunners/OutRun 2/Cruisn' series/Virtua Racing/Road Rash series/Asphalt 8+9/Mario Kart 8.
I miss my copy of GX more and more every day.
Big Blue is literally the best song ever. No one gets tired of hearing remixes of Big Blue
It's mind blowing to think that Sega is a part of one of Nintendos best games on the Gamecube!
Giving a shout-out to the anime. Super underrated, ultra nostalgic
Bro, I am a new Subscriber and I have to say I love your vids man. I am watching them all now. Keep up the good work.
A brand new HD F-Zero game would be an instant masterpiece. Nintendo would make so much money, and re-launch a neglected IP
When a series starts with a game as good as F-Zero, and still manages to improve every main entry after, it's something special.
man, I felt the same exact way.
Magnificent video of the quality rarely seen on gaming UA-cam anymore. Well done.
19:40 the real first place was on the Skyway that appears above you right before the finish line
Oooohh that makes sense
Listen to me
F-Zero remake (call it whatever you want F Zero Switch, F Zero GS)
-GX mechanics
-X soundtrack and art
-Online 30 man races
-Weekly online Gran Prix with prices (customizables for instance)
19:37 The machine on the skyway above you won the race, not the one you passed on the ground.
7.) F-Zero 99
I'm going to be brutally honest here, this game kind of ticked me off. To a longtime fan like me this kind of felt like a slap in the face just like the Mario Kart cameos or how Super Smash Brothers doesn't show the franchise proper respect.)
6.) Maximum Velocity.
5.) GP Legend
The game is just simply too easy.
4.) The original F-Zero
Okay so I know I'm being bias here but seriously I just can't even begin to explain how much my older brother and I are adored this game growing up. While some people grew up playing stuff like Pokemon or Super Mario my brother and I grew up playing F-Zero.
Like I stated before it was the very first video game I ever played. I will always have a soft spot for this game and it always will be my favorite game on the Super Nintendo.
3.) F-Zero Climax
Unfortunately this was a japan-exclusive.
2.) F-Zero GX
(All AX content unlocked)
I know this is definitely the fan-favorite, and for good reason!
1.) F-Zero X
(With expansion kit)
Man I was absolutely blown out of the water when a relative stopped by to give us a Nintendo 64 as an early (shared) birthday gift from my older brother and I!
( especially the unique Victory quote for Captain Falcon if you're able to win master mode and get first place. )
I understand why g x on the GameCube is seen as the superior game and is definitely the fan-favorite I really do but for me this truly is my favorite entry in the series.
(None of that modern gaming BS!)
Sorry about the very long comment I'm just so passionate about this series and now that it's finally starting to get attention after all of these years I feel like I can finally be open and talk about this awesome franchise without getting sh-t just because it's not as popular as the mainstream Nintendo stuff.
Awesome video and I'm glad you enjoyed your experience going through the franchise! I hope others will be inspired bye videos like yours!
(My top 3 favorite Pilots -
#28 Super Arrow - Machine: King Meteor.
#10 James McCloud - Machine: Little Wyvern.
And my favorite! #19 Leon - Machine: Space Angler.)
Thank you for sharing your experience with this video.
F-Zero followed me through out my school years with original game in my elementary years, X in middle school and finally GX in high school.
With the announcement of GP Legend and Climax coming to Switch. That means every F-Zero game are playable on Switch, with the sole exception of GX.
Loved the series, mastered it, and GX is the best.
You actually forgot one game: BS F-Zero Grand Prix 2
I was recently in Tokyo and went to Mikado Game Center in Ikebukuro to play F-Zero AX. That game is seriously sick, such a thrill. I honestly prefer the controls to the gamepad on GX. Using a wheel and pedals just takes it to another level. Wish I had the arcade machine in my house...
I love GX so much it hurts.
F-Zero GX was a blast on GameCube. I opened everything there back then. Even had a chance to play AX several times.
F-Zero X was not the first racing game to be 60FPS. 60FPS was commonplace prior to the shift to 3D games - even SNES F-Zero was 60FPS.
I just finished F-Zero AX and built up my license card to Master Class. I expected you to mention it.
Such a great vid thank you.
I think you got 2nd in 99 cos 1st was on the skyway. Can't quite tell who crossed the line first but I guess it's correct.
I really hope for a true GX sequel. I'm just imagining GX gameplay with some of the stuff GP legends brought (more racers, expanded story, locations, etc). And if they had a 99 mode as one of the vs. modes, where you could choose from ~50 pilots would be great, bring back Death Race from X as a vs. mode, etc.
There was even an Arcade F Zero game, which was AX.
It’s the arcade version of GX.
You can even link AX and GX together using your memory card.
Also AX was remade in GX so you already played AX technically
The only thing GX is missing is the announcers voice "you got BOOSTpower!!"
