To let you know, Dad is doing well and still plays every day. He is a little slower, a little more bent, but his mind is as sharp as ever and is probably healthier now than he was 20 years ago.
@@leeblake3989 thanks for these updates and replies. Your dad is one of my all time favorite and most cherished musician heroes. Wishing the best to all of you
Great clip! Such a great band!! Wish they had stayed together longer. Back then, being a long-haired hippie playing bluegrass was still a novelty-it turned me on to trad music. Also, JH was the only songwriter who rhymed “yodel” with “hotel” (another cut on the same record)!
I knew Wade when we both lived in Chicago. Last time we spoke I was preparing to move to Los Angeles, and he was moving to Alaska. Nice to see him again, thanks for sharing. 😊
John. Thank You man. Much needed n I live in the south of India. It’s been doubly hard getting John Hartford here. But who’s got the money fer it these days man? Thank you again.
a few thoughts...the way John is playing the banjo at the beginning...it is what I would call "whamming"...a term the Pete Seeger used (I think)...and what is it with the myriad of instruments...mostly banjos...on the stage? Did John actually use all those for this show?
Well got me a gal From playing on my fiddle And the farder that I fiddle The harder that she comes along But we gotta get happy When we wiggle in the middle That's when I know That I want to come home
OK...can we agree to disagree on that? I remember Sam Bush telling how the NGR would listen to Aeroplane...a lot...and that Sam considered it to be the first "newgrass" album...that John...and this band and their work...were the inspiration for NGR
Norman could play all those instruments on stage plus mandolin. The best musician of all time
Norman was THAT DUDE

@@leeblake3989your father is my flat picking hero ❤
Vasser let me play that fiddle many years back when I met him in Bigfork Montana. One of the best memories I have.
All very cool..especially enjoyed the shots of Tut Taylor, the flat-pickin' dobro man.
Huge shoutout to John hotze! This man loved good music and shared it with all of us on UA-cam. Thank you!!! Rip!

What a great surprise! One of the best songs played by a bunch of remarkable musicians. Highly appreciated and thanks for sharing this great clip.
thanks for sharing this. I love me some John Hartford on UA-cam, but his name isn't anywhere on this video so I hadn't found this before!

Can someone please tell me the name of the tune Vassar plays at the end?
What is he lyric after "I got me a gal, from playin' on the fiddle, that's when I know......"?
Well got me a gal
From playing on my fiddle
And the farder that I fiddle
The harder that she comes along
But we gotta get happy
When we wiggle in the middle
That's when I know
That I want to come home
@@shaneorr1476 thanks!
@@johnwise7693 the way i interpreted it was he moved away from the mic cuz that lyric was pretty racy for 1972 TV.
Pardon my ignorance, but is that David Bromberg on rhythm guitar?
It‘s Norman Blake, the best guitarist of all time imo
@@henningkh3890 Thanks very much. Coming back to this kind of sound after many years - but how could I forget the great Norman Blake? Cheers!
@@billmcalpine My pleasure! Check out his solo work if you haven‘t already.
Happy listening!
Rather hear New Grass Revival do it.
