Rubicon trim worth buying only if you are to do hardcore offroading/ major rock climbing - that's where lockers shine. Anything lesser - BLD brake locking differential will handle no problem. Suspension - Rubicon suspension can be bought $100 used in US. Many go for higher then stock rubi anyway. Wheels and tires - majority (including Rubicon owners ) buy more offset /bigher/better. Or people mount large tires on stock wheels. Fromt sway bar -can easily.unbolt sway bar links / buy inexpensive sway bar disconnect
The best advantage of the rubicon trim is the wider axles and the different gearing. Everything else can be and is often swapped out including suspension and tires. Sahara is much cheaper than the rubi and you can buy rubi takeoff suspension and tires to perform just like a rubi. The rubi will shine when lockers and lower gearing is needed and requiring less modification to fit larger tires due to the wider axle. But that’s basically it. There both keeps and can be modded to perform the same. Rubi is just further along than a Sahara right out the factory, but saharas can be built cheaper than a rubi when modding.
After much debating, I ended up buying a Sahara 4xe. I test drove every jeep out there except the 392. Regular, diesel, lifted, stock, 6 speeds, Willys, sports etc. By far - the most fun to drive on the road was the Sahara 4xe. The battery locations in the center kept the ride very smooth on the streets - where I do 90% of my driving. The smaller tires and lower frame had us hitting 0-60 in about 6 seconds and cornering better than a jeep is supposed to- that is a lot of fun.. With the add-ons that I have - matching colored hard tops and fenders, keyless entry, front camera, blind spot detection, cold weather package, towing package and more this is a 56K jeep. The exact addons for the Rubicon bring it to 64K. To rock climb the Rubicon trail you are going to need to lift both cars and add larger tires. The extra 9k wasn't worth it for me at this time. For a lot less than 9K I can purchase front sway bar disconnects, front skid plate and ox lockers. But I probably never will. But I could.
The tires are the only factor in this challenge they both have same engine and power but the Sahara has those daily driver tires on vs the rubicon’s off road tires
As someone who owned a 2018 JLUR i can attest to the unstoppable rubicon trim, but.. It was terrible on the highway, and with the lift and bigger tires it rode hard too. The Sahara is much easier to live with on a daily basis, I never used the lockers or swaybar disconnects outside of the trails, on the road in 2ft of snow 4wd high was plenty to never get stuck..
This shows how handicapped the regular version is in some offroad scenarios. It will send all power to the wheels that has zero traction when you actually want the exact opposite. This is because it is focused at onroad use and do not have loackable diffs like the Rubicon, which is offroad focused.
I wouldn’t say the stock models are handicapped though. Lockers have their advantages but most off-roaders rarely use them unless they are technical trail crawling in which installing lockers on the Sahara is a fairly cheap mod compared to the cost of the rubi.
It looks like you did not disconnect the sway bar on the Sahara to me. The Sahara has much more articulation than that on the front end. Or, you should have not disconnected the sway bar on the Rubicon. Plus it looks as if you purposely stopped the Sahara right on the edge of the gravel hill just before the gravel hoping it would slip more with the street tires. The Rubicon you did not stop at all but kept original pace. Other than tire difference, good video.
@@DrivingCarsyou get sway bar quick disconnects. Easy mod and yes the Sahara will have improved articulation. May not be an electric button feature like the Rubi probably has but most off-roaders know about manual sway bar quick disconnects lol.
Thanks this video save me a lot of money, Sahara 2.0 works perfect for me

Yep, the first 40 seconds showed me why a Rubicon is the better choice
The Sahara has stock tires tho. The Rubicon have upgraded tires

Of course the Rubicon is better but the Sahara holds up very well
Of course the rubicon is the best.. but I would take the sahara for daily driving.
I would take the Rubicon and change the tires to the Sahara treads for street driving, easy peasy:)

good choice, i think. :)

Hey man, it's not only about tires. There are a lot of more things, that are different.
Suspension is the biggest difference
@@DrivingCars
Rubicon only has advantage for slow rock crawling. Mild to medium offloading other trims will do just fine.
Great comparison!
Thank you :-)

Thank you very much for this video. I was looking for a months for something similar to this so I can decide which one of them. Thanks again
You're welcome!
Nice video.
those good looking jeep!
One reason the Rubicon does better here is its tires. The Sahara looks like it has street tires.
both cars are OEM.
Looks like they are both equal
No, they don't.
Tires play a big part

You can't operate the sway bar on Sahara, only on the Rubicon.

Did they disconnect sway bar on the Sahara
No, you can't do that in Sahara
@@DrivingCars
You can, you just have to unbolt swaybar link. Easy and quick to do it, but not as convenient as electronic.
