Hey James! This is a really great video, it is cool that these features exist on Instagram now. I like how the audio description reads exactly what the photo is showing. That is very helpful for all of us. Thanks again for another awesome video. Mad
as a tv production guy, I see millions of people that try to engage people on youtube. I just wanted you to know that you are captivating and not only should you continue to make these videos.... you should do sports. the ref's have full sight and miss way more than you ever would commentating. I hope this message uplifts your day, because you sure as hell uplifted mine. and now I know how to type alt text. so I learned a lot without a lot of mumbo jumbo. I edit videos all the time and would most certainly help you with any project. with instagram, the world is tiny again.
Wow, I'll try to remember to do this for future photos on Instagram, what a great idea! I have no clue if this is an option from the UK, but I'll try...
Hi, I was talking to my friend about this and she has added her descriptions for a while now on the caption on Instagram and when we tried the alt text we couldn't find it anywhere and were not sure it was working so your video was extremely helpful to us! Thank you very much ♥️
I have watched a couple of your videos this morning and I think I’m nearly ready to begin...maybe 😎 you have explain things very well I think I get it now xx
Thanks for the video! I had a question and you answered it. I was wondering how visually impaired people could get content from videos. Besides the audio. With what's going on right now. It seems like that type of software for the handicap. Might be a key for Ai software. Just a thought.
Thanks for the video. Is this still a thing? I've been adding alt text to all my Instagram posts, and I've tried using the android 'screentalk' to read my image descriptions to me, but it's not working. I can't get screentalk to read any of the posts in my feed either. Am I missing something? Thanks
How are you i was just watching your video on instagram my mom is totally blind and i want her to start using instagram we recently listen to the video that you had on instagram be we don’t know exactly what to do could you help us please. How exactly do we get the phone to describe the photos?
are there such things a whole websites which are entirely audio based? ... also, you know what would be neat? when a screen reader reads certain things like comments, instead of computer rendered voices on screen readers, itd be super cool if it would play an actual audio clip from the person who is generating the comment. what you all think?
hi! I actually have a question. So I've been trying to add alt text to my images, but I've read a few articles that say that alt text is cut off or condensed by screen readers when it goes past 100 characters (not words) which is really not a lot to describe an image. Is this true? Also, does anyone know how to enable a screen reader so I can check how my alt text is working? I tried to use the screen reader function in iphone settings and got it to read captions, but it doesn't read alt text.
I usually add image descriptions to the caption so this feature will be better to use so thank you! Should I delete my old captions or will they still be helpful?

I was wondering if you could show us how when you share the photos on Instagram to Facebook how to make sure that the image description that you add it on Instagram is also past to Facebook because I’ve been trying to do this for a while but I’m not able to do it I’m not sure if there’s a way
I’ve gotten this question all the time & it’s easier using instagram vs some other apps !!! but I only use voiceover on some things but I still have a tiny amount of sight .....😂 blind people problem using voiceover and not catching misspelling
just followed you on instagram. I'm on instagram too- tabbie93. I use magnification to read the text below the pictures/videos. Like to use color inversion, but that doesn't help when trying to view pictures and videos.
Unfortunately Instagram doesn't support audio description separate tracks but I'd recommend watching your videos with your eyes closed, if you could follow it and it makes sense then you did well. If you couldn't follow it, be more descriptive or use more audio cues.
Depends on what you're trying to convey. Important elements are key but for the most part, keep it short especially for social media. Any text in the image should also be written out with the context that it's a title or text.
hey there I am a constant a follower of your videos and I really like it I have a question can you tell me which kind of iPhone is better phone blind people? Hope for a video about this soon thank you
I use iPhone X, I prefer the smaller size compared to the Max. If you want something from last year with a home button, go iPhone 8. If you want the latest but want some affordability go iPhone XR.
James Rath thank you for your valuable suggestion I am kind of thinking of buying a iPhone 7 because everybody tells that iPhone 7 and 8 are similar what you think
I just upload from my desktop (I'd classify myself as partially sighted). There's a trick that allows you to upload from your computer using google chrome.
Hey guys! I was checking it out the other day and I was curious and I did the description on some pictures on my Instagram and today when I was uploading another picture I was like mmm I wonder how it works or if I’m doing it right, so I searched and I think I’m doing it right I don’t know I hope so lol
Please don't be offended if I sound offensive, I swear I am just naive and not trying to be rude, I just wish to learn........my question is if someone is blind, how can just texts and description make them like Instagram more which is mostly an app for pictures.....how can it be interesting when one cannot even see the pic....
@@User-s9b7j Curiosity is cool! Imagine you are sitting with a blind friend flipping through a photo album and you are stopping to take the time to explain who and what is in the photo. Adding all text to pictures and videos allows us to see what it is and helps us determine what we are viewing. So, if my friend on IG tells me they posted something called “happiness“ and they’ve used all text it makes it easy for me to quickly find.
Do you know of many accounts that consistently use alt text? I can't find many. I tried it out on my last dozen or so pictures with talk back. Haven't tried it with voiceover yet. @atx_360
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I am always trying to be respectful and mindful and I am currently editing my pictures to include all texts. @queerblacktherapist on IG
Good question, when # is written by itself it just reads it as "number sign" on my desktop computer. When it's written without a space on a word like #accessibility, it ignores the hash altogether and reads the word.

Right on brother! As a blind person myself, this gets a bit frustrating with images that contain text. Keep doing what you’re doing! So proud of you!

great video, setting up alt text stuff for an art gallery/community event center in my city! thanks for the info!!
Glad it was helpful!
It’s nice that I’ll have shorter descriptions below my posts yet still have my Image description available within the pics themselves.
