@Susan When it comes to toning a canvas or paper, most traditional artists will use burnt sienna, but you can really use any color. I know Emmy tones her surface with magenta all the time. The Burnt umber that we used has a similar result to the burnt sienna just slightly less warm and saturated. -Michaela

Appreciated all the info at the end about the WN paints. I never realized that info was so important. You mentioned “a la prima” during the video; not being an art student, I had to look it up (at first attempt). Thanks for sharing your insights, experience and talents!

Just in case mjpete27 checks out the replay, I wanted to let that person know that I personally use Chelsea products. The lavender spike oil has a very strong odor but the citrus brush cleaner has a wonderful orange smell and I use it for brush cleaning as well as my first layer in painting. It works beautifully for both! I would highly recommend these products. They are amazing!

@TheaMoore - I'd love to discuss the W&N Watercolor Impasto Medium! That sounds like a fun video to make.

@SueWegert - I've never used clove oil but then again, I've never really needed to extend the life of my paints on the pallet longer than what the Masterson lid provides.

@TheaMoore - Using acrylics for your underpainting is 100% doable and actually a very common practice. However, due to drying times and chemical stability, it is not recommended to use acrylics over oils.

@mjpete27 - Reuben here... I hope I answered your questions in the video but just incase I wanted to chime in - The ONLY reason I'm able to use oils again is because of the W&N Sansodor. It isn't 100% odorless, but for whatever reason, I have less of a reaction to it compared to other mediums and solvents. I'm now able to paint for 1-2 hours straight without having to take a break which, due to the drying times of oils, works perfectly with my workflow. I was never able to do that with OMS or any other solvents.

"Only real artists own all kinds of supplies that they swear they"ll use one day" giggling uncontrollably......that describes me to a tee! We are in the process of moving and out of the 40 boxes already packed, 20 of them are my art supplies LOLOLOLOLOL
