This is my absolute favorite Whisky. I’ve got some great Whiskies like Ardbeg Uigeadail, Ardbeg 10, Laphroaig 10, Talisker 10, Johnny Walker Blue, but Lagavulin 16 is my number 1 Whisky. I found it just over a year ago and I’m on bottle number 3 already. Absolutely love it! I’ve watched all of Nick Offerman’s videos as well.
@3:10 “That’s all you’re ever going to see of Rex, because if we put Rex on camera, I no longer look as pretty.” Just one year later and Daniel’s got a lot more gray hair…I guess dealing with Rex been more of a burden than he thought.
Lagavulin 16 is a great bottle of whiskey. I'm really impressed with it. it is a damn fine whiskey as you say. but Laphroaig Cairdeas (cask strength quarter cask) in my opinion seems to be a bit better. still love me a bottle of Lagavulin though
I have mine great (and short story) about Lagavulin 16. My wife had onec cravings for cheescake, so we went to Patisserie and she was searching in for her favourite of the day (there were like 15 flavours) and asked me which one I want. So I looked also and saw behind cakes bottle of Laga 16. So we ended up with nutmeg cheescake for my wife and dram of Laga 16 for myself. What a beautifull day.
Oh and my wife have very interesting way to describe smell and taste of Laga 16. "It was like, when you made orange marmalade and burned bit of it on side of a pot"
Can you do a scotch vs Japanese whiskey comparison and reviews? Like Hibiki Harmony vs Ardbeg Uigeadail or Yamazaki 12 vs Laphroaig Quarter Cask, Nikka Single Malt Yoichi vs Lagavulin 16.
Pulled this up in the costco booze aisle when the Kirkland 20 year old Speyside had sold out 10 days after that review...I had planned to spend about $60 on that and didnt want to go home empty handed...on the bottom shelf they had Lagavulin 16 for $59.99...OMFG it is sooooooooooooooo good. My first Isla...have I ruined myself for all others??? I think it might be perfect...
Oh yes. I'm no grand whisky connaisseur and I'll drink a cheap scotch happily everyday of the week. But there's nothing that can beat a Lagavulin 16 and if I had the money I would probably rarely drink anything else, except for when I'm in the mood for something a bit less smokey. It's a divine whisky.
Watching this video from 6 years ago with a glass of Lagavulin in my hand, I think i agree with the mint taste there is something that just lifts it and the end of a sip and this is a good analogy. Laga is an exceptional dram. I just wish it wasn't so damn expensive.
If I’m not mistaken, it seems there is a bottle of Lagavulin on the shelf behind Daniel as he filmed this. It certainly is a damn fine whisky, it knew it was being filmed so it had to make an appearance.
It's May 2022 and I just found my first bottle of lagavulin. I've been in the whiskeys and Bourbons for a few years now but I'm in a state controlled place so it's not easy to find
I bought a bottle of this because of you Daniel, now to find time to try it...gotta love rex, "ave rex". you are guys are a cure for the tired and stressed.
I have a question for you. I’d like to begin collecting whiskey (instead of polishing off 2 or 3 different bottles then going to the liquor store again) and I’m wondering how do you keep your whiskey fresh once opened? Is there a best practice, or is it the old “it’s alcohol, it never goes bad”?
Anthony, they have done some ver good vids more recently that delve deeply into the subject. The short answer is that as the level of the bottle goes down, the shelf life goes down. You can increase shelf life by moving to a smaller bottle with less space for evaporation.
*Apologies for the following rant- This disclaimer here is merely to point out that I don't expect an audience for my writing and the purpose of the following paragraphs were just that they're merely cathartic to me as an inexperienced writer and whisky-buff. Damn fine ? Man, I know it's emotive.. I hear Ardbeg's claim to be not only the best on Islay but the world.. & I laugh, Not bitterly, For it is a fine and splendid drop. Laphroaig, Outright favourite in my wider circle.. More medicinal on the palette, For me and my money, The best ever (My two best mates are in full agreement, One, OJR who happened to discover it with me one night in the Chilli Arms, Newcastle (Upon-Tyne, England)). . Is.. The Lagavulin 16. Yes it has caramel colouring enhancement, But on taste, and taste alone, The balance of flavours are Nulli Secondus. It's outstanding. Rated a 9.1 by some nay-sayers ;) , I'd say it's 100. Not to shock, But if it is truly my pinnacle, Indeed, The most perfect whisky in the world. Well, Gads, There's nothing more to add. I once fell deeply in love with a totally different scotch in bottle no104 of Balvenie's 15yo single barrel (water melon , slight fruit, More complexity).. I must even put it close, yet for different and alarmingly similar reasons. However, I'm true to my opus in the case of Laga 16. It's less limited for starters, But always consistent, Always outstandingly brilliant., I have received a bottle each year for Christmas since I was 19 years old. Each year it's not been tiresome, But an absolute joy. One year I had a different shaped box and (regardless of content) couldn't help inwardly feeling a little dismayed. It turned out to be the same, Good, Lagavulin 16... But even more special, Coming via "Alexander & James", Personally engraved to me from my father, With a festive note. I'm spoiled. I know it. I'm also a tad OCD and in an extreme, You may find every last Christmas bottle of Lagavulin I've received (empty) still in storage in my house. I wanted to take up glass crafting, Just to work them into a project and allow them all a new lease of life. They transcended tasting notes and became memories. I appreciate that sounds ABSOLUTLEY MENTAL to most reading this, But such is the attachment, comfort and nostalgia I feel for this drop, It's no longer solely just about the single malt goodness inside. I'm not soft but the one piece of music that damn-near wrecks me every time I listen to it is the Nimrod variation by Elgar. In terms of the intensity of emotion, I'd rank Lagavulin right up there with music. In art, I can't choose but truth be told I'm more turned on by automotive sculptures than fine paintings, anyway. The boat on the label, The wood and canvass, Truth be told, The art of form and function excites me more and ties-in all the more perfectly than any painting could. It's grace, form, function... Elegance and tranquillity, even. Perfection in my eyes. To me that's Lagavulin.
Lol, great vid Daniel. This is the one that actually made me leave the whisk(e)less world. I have a negative note on this one, tho. Before I convinced my girlfriend to taste this, she assured me she wouldn't like it. Now I have to keep it in a locked cabinet..... Lagavullin 16 got me hooked, and it will be in my cabinet no matter what. Love this rich tasting journey with your guidance so far. Keep it up, pease. Cheers! Ps Gonna watch vids you mentioned as well, later on.
Got this for hubby after watching Ron Swanson’ and your videos . Hubby lovessss it and surprisingly I love it as well so it’s now the one liquor we will Always have a bottle of ....must be the Scottish blood coming out lol
Nearly a year after this video came out and I got my first bottle of Lagavulin 16 and darn it Daniel I get that same reaction. No doubt the power of persuasion helps. But I get that downright cool feeling like I finished an Altiod a few minutes ago (so not mint flavor, just chill to the tongue).
I just want a hickory whisky and or whiskey I just want that I can be with peat or not but I just want and am craving a good hickory smoked whisky/whiskey
I didn't like it that mutch. I prefer a Glenfidich 15 year old. I taught the Oban 12 years old was bether in the same categorie. But nothing beats a Chivas 21 yr old royal salute in my opinion even thow that's not a single malt
Lagavulin 16 is the only thing in my bar that i cant drink lol. Made me physically ill, I blame you for saying it was so good so I decided to try a super smoky scotch. Devil youtube person!
A long lost review and minimum Mooch, those were the days :) A fun fact I am a huge Nick Offerman fan and didn't know about the 45 min video, and actually watched the drinking with Daniel video before I found Nick's.
To think there was a time when we would never see Rex
dark days
That was at least a little glimpse of Rex. That is worth an entire bottle of anything he wants from the vault. I'm sure his agent will call later.
Before the best personality shows up.
I aspire to be Rex, but a Som...
Just feel as it's a title needed.
@@WhiskeyVault Hi past Daniel, I'm from the future and I have bad news for you... :P
This comment aged well.
i know what i'm about, son
"That's all you're ever going to see of Rex" 🤣
glad I went back and watched this... it's a great history to a great team.

Oops!
Crazy to see that Rex’s only screen time was gonna be his arm. How glad we all are that it wasn’t the case.
"That all you will see of Rex because if we put Rex on camera, I no longer look as pretty"...ate those words didn't you Daniel.
Ran over this video, then started to look at my bottle of Lagavulin on the shelf right when you said angel wings, probably going to poor a glass now
@3:10 “That’s all you’re ever going to see of Rex, because if we put Rex on camera, I no longer look as pretty.” Just one year later and Daniel’s got a lot more gray hair…I guess dealing with Rex been more of a burden than he thought.

OH MY GOD ! Is this the first appearance of rex on the channel ??
His first appearance!!
@@KevinPerez-fd9xq He had a shot earlier, just a quick shot of him as the guy filming
No. It was Tower update 15.
I just purchased my first Lagavulin 16. God bless you.

And Rex went on to mooch all the whiskey
Watching those videos of Nick (The King) Offerman, was the most glorious work of art i have ever laid eyes upon.

I have drank this for years just recently noticed the minty hint thanks
lagavulin is one of my favorite scotches. Modern rogue sent me here.
Thanks for joining us! You're a man of taste and discretion ;-)
I could feel Rex sitting there even before he reached in.
I bought a bottle of this because of you Daniel, now to find time to try it...gotta love rex, "ave rex". you are guys are a cure for the tired and stressed.
Lol finally Rex is in the building! The start to a new beginning
this is my first peated whisky and islay whisky and I'm enjoying some right now while watching this it is great! awesome video.
I wanted to buy a dram to try but I wasn't sure , now I'm definitely buying a dram !
I love that miniature! Where can you get miniatures of Lagavulin 16?

Where do you get those small bottles of Lagavulin?
It gets cold and wet in Austin, Texas ?
I just bought a bottle of this from master of malt.
What we’re the other things?
It’s important to periodically water your mooches with some whiskey.
