- Daniel Day Lewis's charismatic early performance as punk Johnny in "My Beautiful Laundrette" (1985).
Originally shot for British television, the film was later released in cinemas and became an international success.
When Day Lewis auditioned for the role, he had just finished playing Dracula on stage where he appeared with his hair dyed blond. He later let his hair grow out to give Johnny his frosted "punk look".
I fell in love with him when this came out❤. We need to revisit to see them retiring from the business today😊
Daniel e nessun altro!! Nel senso che, come al solito, il film la fa LUI!!!
Would love to see a return to the laundry 50 yrs later showing them still together and about to retire.
Now it's either a convenience store or it houses 200 illegals....or both. 🖕
he looks gorgeous....
The actor playing Selim was one of The Hectics, the school band started by classmates Bruce Murray and Farrokh Bulsara (aka Freddie Mercury) at St. Peter's Panchgani, Mumbai (then Bombay), India. He played parts at several tv and screen films in England. So Art teachers at that school were surrounded by precocious talent. Well done !!!!!!!!
really?
johnny is such a flirt! hehe, i had just forgotten that about him. been awhile since i've seen this.
Questo film, come sempre daltronde, lo tiene in piedi il magnifico, bellissimo ,bravissimo Daniel, le scene con lui sono il sale del film!!!❤❤❤
Congratulations to Daniel for his Oscar on Lincoln.
Beautiful.
Great movie!
he looks like vanilla ice
Magnifico Daniel talmente sexy bellissimo bravissimo❤❤❤
you know what i don't think anyone does accents like DDL. Wonderful
Lucky to have enjoyed this film in the theater. Like many posters, I would love to know what happened between them and now.
Can't Believe Gary Oldman was offered the role of "Johnny Burfoot" but he didn't did it. This Movie can add another Feather to his brilliant Characters.
He looks like Vanilla Ice with that haircut.
he look hot
Aye wee Sir Daniel Day Lewis....muuuah
Daniel's voice is differenti in all of his movies !
Never seen something like this before! that's why i'm italian, but refuse to watch his movies dubbed! *__*
Non riesco a capire molto, non ho visto l’intero film, ma c’è una certezza: Daniel è di una bellezza struggente e, sempre, bravissimo!!
Daniel Day Lewis was so hot! He looked like Michael Fassbender
Great movie.
i laugh at this scene.. *shut door* no, its cool *open door*
LOL :-)
so true!i was exactly thinking the same thing!
He looks a lot like 80s Morrissey in this film.
Whatever happened to Gordon Warnecke ("Omar")?
Lots of TV and theater work but never another feature film.
Cor blimey guv...stone the crows...I ain't doing nuthin mate awright? I dunno...even though one of them is DDL the accents still sound suspiciously like well spoken people trying to emulate cockneys...he does a better american accent...the film still has its powerful moments tho...
In all fairness, this was quite early on in his career and he was still learning the ropes...I think he could do a more convincing cockney accent now compared to then.
Day Lewis grew up in Greenwich & he lived in South-East London,at this time.
Also he was (and still is:-) a Millwall supporter & used to have fights on the terraces,in his youth too,a useful skill,in roles, like this one.
So technically whilst well-spoken,he was also street-wise & mixed with working-class men,so he could pull some of it off.
have you SEEN it??? right, i thought not.
Blah blah blah
the other leading protagonist- the Pakistani- (forget his name) idk, looks a bit like Jared Leto, except the skin, of course. The kind of wide-eyed prettiness. Eh.
DDL playing a Gigalo?
Well we all have 2 start somewhere i guess
::::)))
Daniel Gay blew it Lewis
Never liked this film for suggesting that punks were racist/fascist. I wouldn't call myself a punk, but I've never met a racist or fascist one.
They weren’t punks, they were skinheads lol
A lot of skinheads weren't racist, just hated pakis. 😂
And this was just the start. Now the launderette is a convenience store and Lewis's character was a traitor.
