    That turned out great. The 3800 polish you used is that the super finish plus? Didn't see a link for it. I am going to try this on my 1993 Toyota Supra quarter window trim it looks just like your car did. New glass is $600 so if this works it saves me from buying new windows. Thanks

    Great to see the results, just remember to use a compound that doesn't stain trim.
    Mould causes the rubber to become pitted so removing the top layer is the only real option.
    Good work, keep it up and thanks for sharing

    I use Mothers Mag and wheel polish and a soft terry cloth towel. Works on my '91 4Runner and the 2005 Cadillac STS rubber trim. Will not hurt paint or glass. I then top coat it with Mothers Back to Black. It has no colorant and lasts longer than other brands I've tried. If the rubber is etched it just takes more rubbing, but it leaves no scratches and a glossy finish that sheds water better.

    Phil on nasty old neglected trim that a customer isn’t paying for a restoration how do you detail that? I use Spray Nine and a detail brush. They bleed from just like browning tires. Just curious how you guys clean them. By the way Megs D300 is still my go to 1 step compound. I love it!

    • @MirandaDetailing

    • @MirandaDetailing

I used the finer grade red scotch brite cloth/pad (320 grade) with some Meguiars stage 1 paint cleaner polish (quick detailer spray worked as well) and had no visible scratches at all. Finished with some Autoglym (UK brand) plastic/rubber gel cleaner/protectant. Buffed off any smears on glass and paintwork with clean microfiber cloth.

    Not related to rubber, but since you used the "0000" steel wool, it works WONDERS on chrome!
    On my 2022 BMW motorcycle, I use a light touch with a dry "0000" steel wool on my chrome surfaces, and it removes bugs, spots, etc., like magic. For rusty chrome, WD-40 and "0000" steel wool helps to remove the rust and polish the chrome. I did this with my 1976 Honda CB500t to great effect.

    Phil another home run video for me. You have a very creative mind that comes up with "genius" ideas. I have been good at washing, polishing, waxing, and coating accompanied with general interior cleaning, but I just don't have any experience in really cleaning cars in so many areas that you have addressed in your videos, especially with the issue you are addressing today. So, for my "Estimating or guestimating" knowledge book at this point for me, how long would you expect a job like this to take for a sedan and an average size SUV? Also how long did it actually take you on this vehicle? My original thought is to double the time you estimate for me initially, and only charge for the time it would've taken you because I am not going to make my clients pay for my education. This is a "learn through teaching, mistakes, and ah-ha moments" for me. Actually, there are a lot of videos that I need to start asking you this same question so I can build up my "Estimator" data spreadsheet. Thank you again for all you do for us.

    Word of warning - These rubber trims can be surprisingly very thin on the corners. I followed a guide to abrade trim mould on my Honda Prelude many years ago, using fine emery paper, yet managed to hit bare metal on the trim corners very quickly, before I had even removed most of the mould: had to buy new trim pieces in the end. I was fairly careful and only removed a fraction of a mm before I hit metal, so consider starting with a magic eraser sponge or 3000 grit emery paper and strong degreaser or suitable polish.

    Sorry, kind of skipped to the process. Did you consider magic eraser? If it is effective against the oxidation and mold, could forego masking tape step. Wont abrade paint or metal trim on older vehicles. Just hit the paint around the trim with a detailer or spray wax afterwards if worried about the protection, sooner or later.

    • @MirandaDetailing
      @MirandaDetailing  3 роки тому +3

      Oh yeah I’m sure that could work also. But the eraser tends to deteriorate and fall apart when put pressure is applied to it. I’ve tried it and it’s ok but the scuff pads and steel wool won’t fall apart like the eraser will.

    I worked for a rubber company for 3 yrs every day at work we sanded rubber. We also made a lot of mouldings for windows of planes and seals and lots more for the automotive and aircraft industry. The lines are part of the moulding process. It’s the machine lines in the molds if they are not polished as well as the milling of the rubber before it goes in the molds. You are just scavenging the dried out surface. Not sure why people freak out!

      Hi! So is black on your door pillars glossy or black textured plastic?

    • @RandomFun107
      @RandomFun107 2 роки тому +1

      It’s glossy just like the sequoia smooth and shiny but feels like plastic not metal. It’s not faded like all the rest of the plastic so maybe I’ll just coat it and call it good.

    • @MirandaDetailing
      @MirandaDetailing  2 роки тому +3

      Ah ok. So it’s most likely the black gloss pillars. Even though they are plastic underneath they are usually still paint d and clear coat led like normal paint so you can treat them paint. Polish and use a paint ceramic coating. 😎👍🏼

As a Detailer we can restore faster and cheaper with basic products and tools. The point of the video is to teach how Detailers can do these services for customers.
