Isn’t that a good part of the reason we go fishing? Lovely to catch some fish, but being close to nature, enjoying the environment we are lucky enough to be in, sums it all up for me. You can have a poor day fishing wise, but still a great day fishing. Thanks Jon for reminding us it’s not all about winning.
Couldn't agree more Jon! We are so blessed and privileged to witness far more of the beauties of creation than people who don't go fishing. As you rightly say, it is great for our mental health and for the soul. I have even heard reports of GPs suggesting to their patients that they take up fishing as a way of improving their mental health, and we already know of course that many service veterans suffering with PTSD take it up for the same reason. And we never begrudge a robin (or even a wren, as I had once one very cold Winter's day) some of our maggots! 😊
It’s not just about the fishing, it’s about appreciation for the surroundings and the creatures that live there .. we’re just visitors after all in their home.. great vid Jon 👍🏻
One of the best things about fishing the same lake regularly is the opportunity to watch birds rear their young. Last year I saw 8 cygnets grow from balls of fluff to majestic Swans. Also...you can't beat having a Robin for company on the peg!
Pretty amazing Jon. How often do we really notice what goes on around us. Makes you appreciate what we could lose if we didnt look after it. Fantastic. Thanks Jon.
You didn’t manage a kingfisher 😂 we are so lucky and privileged 👍 I always say its not about catching fish its the environment we fish in and what goes on around us, nice video Jon 👍
Sitting shiverinhg in a winter match on the river Thame when a family of about ten long tailed tits turned up and searched through the willow behind me always gave me a warm feeling. And seeing wood pigeons on the river Severn crash into the water to load up a drink for their squabs. Amazing. Thought the first one I saw do it had been shot 😵. Get the same enjoyment playing golf these days. Winter always brings the Brent geese in their hundreds to the field next to the course. Too old to go match fishing any more and nowhere to run a stick float through since moved
Cheers for this. Keep your daughter away from social media until she's 18, & let her see all the sights of nature that those glued to their iphones will never see. From the title I guess you might be a Simple MInds fan - in which case, very apt.
robins are nice but their tweet is so loud for a bird so small i had 2 yesterday doing shifts but the other week i had a pheasant waiting for maggots but he let his call out right next to me and i nearly fell off my box it was so loud cant beat nature and nature loves fishermen
You can't beat a Robin by your side when you're fishing. They are like a labrador good company but always hungry. Love them both.
They poop a lot though, as my camera discovered once and took forever to clean!

Thanks for sharing the appreciation :-)
And that’s why we go fishing as well, glad to see you released one of your worms Jon !!!!!!
Ha ha, no that was a lobworm in the wild... well actually it was hiding under a big rock til I lifted it up!

I think little wrens are my favourite!
Thank you for that Jon. If people don't see the wonders around them when fishing...their loss.
So true :-)

You didn’t manage a kingfisher 😂 we are so lucky and privileged 👍 I always say its not about catching fish its the environment we fish in and what goes on around us, nice video Jon 👍

I think seeing a gang of long-tailed tits working in the hedgerows is one of the most pleasurable sights

I haven't a clue about Simple Minds I'm afraid but I can probably hum the tune without knowing it!
@@JonArthur you'd have to google "alive & kicking" Jon!

Anyone that wonders why we go fishing should watch this film Not all about catching fish

Too true
