Thanks for showing my old stomping grounds. A lot has changed in the 55 years since I lived there. Stay safe out there.

So cool they've got SD60Ms now!! I've lived right near the W&P branch of this railroad my whole life and it's been so cool to see AVR go from having basically nothing but an old high hood gp10 when I was a little kid to having all of this beautiful, gleaming bigger power nowadays. Wonder if the SD60Ms will ever make it out to the W&P branch?

There are plenty of interesting things happening around Pittsburgh beyond the Class 1 operations if you know where to look.

When Carload Express first purchased DCR ? (Delmarva Central RR) They utilized some AVR motive power here in Delaware & in eastern Maryland as well, until the allotment of DCR power was ready to roll- maybe for 6 weeks or so....
It was interesting while it lasted. And upped dependability, customer service immediately, I have been told/heard.... Something that NS had dropped the ball on, and they apparently knew it & were ready to sell off attendant trackage rights to the effected lines to gain more liquid assets & improve customer service on the Delmarva Peninsula...Win-win !!

So cool to see the AVR in this video! I live in lower Sussex County Delaware where the DCR runs. It goes as far as the Clayton Interchange to meet up with NS out of the EDGEMOOR yard in Wilmington, Delaware.

During WW2 and the early 1950's the W&P used to see 40 trains a day between Pittsburgh and Wheeling. It was down to two trains each way plus local industrial switcher run in the mid 1980's when CSX decided to abandon it west of Washington PA. The decline of the W&P is a classic example of the decline of industry in the Pittsburgh region. 😔

Outstanding video and commentary. Great info provided. I have railfaned the AVR and Island Ave on many occasions and I model Island yard and URR ET for my fictitious PTD. Your commentary is invaluable. Hope to see more footage of these great locations. Super job.

Really nice video - thanks for sharing.
As a steel mill enthusiast I especially enjoyed the footage filmed at Braddock.
I noticed steam coming out of (presumably) the bleeder of one of the blast furnaces. This is a quite unusual condition. Do you know anything about the background?

I did see that and I am puzzled at that as well. The engineer was definitely on the opposite side of a traditional locomotive though and can be seen more clearly at Bruceton, PA when they switch the interchange.
