KS eTen Vs RSP Plummet - Battle of the Cheap Dropper Posts
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 жов 2024
- We took a couple of budget dropper posts for a head to head test and found that if you've been holding off because of price, then now is the time to upgrade. They're both surprisingly good, but which one is the best?
Nice to see a review of down market kit.

Every time I see your trail dog running, it puts a smile on my face!!.
how many trail dogs were injured or died from dehydration already? Too many to count..
I just got the KS eTen for my XC hardtail - I really didn't have a choice between brands because my bike has the older 27.2 frame. I would agree with BikeRadar's assessment. That said even with the short amount of time riding with a dropper this is by far the best upgrade I've made to my bike. It is so nice getting the seat out of the way while descending, I feel like I can really fly with more control. I'm not sure how long it will last but for now definitely worth the $116 investment.
I just ordered the exact same post and i'm already exited for it to arrive.
Your dropper post are still working?
@@JulioSanchez-kk9le I’m still using the dropper post. I had to replace the internal mechanism a little over a year ago - the part cost $35. All in all I’m happy with the post and can’t imagine riding without one. Not the lightest post, but good value for the money.
I have the ks dropper and all you have said rings true as an additional note i find it to be a lot more sluggish on return during cold freezing conditions.. But I still think it's great to have than not have a dropper post at all.
I've got an RSP Plummet, it feels cheap and there's quite a bit of play in the cable, plus the cable going into the post has frayed slightly the minute I put it on the bike and dropped it. However, it works fine even through Welsh mud and crud, going to overhaul it soon to see if I can improve on the basic construction.
I'm thinking of getting this could I swap the cable out for a longer one?
I have the KS it's not light but it's been reliable, as for the cable route issues just cut the housings and run it through those silly old front derailleur cable guides.
sorry to nit pick but on the KS, he routed the cable in the wrong direction, the flat cable end that you would put into your shifter goes in the remote making it flush and easier to depress. also i have the KS ETEN R the same one featured here and have only had problems with it not returning when it is super cold, i fixed it by using a lighter grease than the one it comes with, just some of my personal thoughts and experiences.
Well spotted! We don't think that would have affected performance, but it does look a little funny now you've pointed it out. Thanks for the grease tip too; we've definitely heard a few reports of KS posts being slightly reluctant to return, especially in the cold.
I have a rsp plummet stealth
Bought for £99 delivered
125 mm drop
Works perfect
I heard of nightmares about rockshok reverb
Why pay a fortune for constant bleeding problems
my dad has the reverb and it has messed up twice ill get one of these
So glad you guys made this video
You guys installed the KS wrong, the black thing that holds the cable is supposed to be on the door side
so expensive for technology found on an office chair which costs €60
Office chairs are rarely used to travel over rocky terrain at high speeds and get regularly covered in mud, hosed down, etc.
an office chair even swivels. the truth is, the mountain bike industry is filled with 3rd or 4th rate 'engineers' who make everything sound difficult or an innovation. except the difficulties they have are with things that have been sorted decades ago. their innovations are things that have been innovated decades ago. the wheel is reinvented so many times it's not funny. suspension forks, suspension shocks, hydraulic brakes, carbon fibre. after a couple of decades of rockshox and fox making mistakes and finally making good suspension, in come öhlins, a motorbike suspension manufacturer with decades of knowledge, and makes forks and shocks superior to established mtb bike brands, straight off the bat. if they simply took some lessons from actual experts, they'd save a lot of time and save us a lot of money in producing mediocre products. i like bikes, but us the consumers need to be a bit more switched on about what's really going on. it's our money they charge too much of.
If you feel so strongly about all these 3rd and 4th rate engineers in the industry, why don't you have a go at starting a component company and see how you get on. I wish you all the luck.
i'm not in a position to do that obviously. just cause i don't agree with the way an industry works, doesn't mean i go an join it with a brand of my own. you lack the understanding of what it takes to start a manufacturing company which is why you'd say something like this.
And you clearly lack the knowledge of challenges the engineers face.
Whatever technology you make, it needs to be light enough to be usable on a bike, sturdy enough to withstand the riding conditions, and then you also need the manufacturing capabilities to mass produce it at a cost that will make it a profitable product.
Comparison to an office chair is ridiculous. And your precious Ohlins wasn't sitting on mountain bike suspension technology that whole time and they didn't come up with anything new. They brought their product AFTER the established brands had overcome all the engineering problems. In other words, their expertise did not help to push the MTB suspension technology forwards at all. They just joined the party after the research portion of the whole deal wasn't so hot.
Yes, there are products which are clearly just an overpriced moneygrab (Procore), but claiming the whole industry is overcharging is plain stupidity and ignorance.
FastAce, DNM and Brand-X dropper post are quite cheap, tough built and have a little bit higher quality; especially the FastAce Dropper. One bonus (and also minus) point for the Brand-X is that it's only have the Stealth routing cable.
giant dropper 150mm drop can be had for £130 or brand x dropper?
Callum Ogden, Giant dropper is great bang for buck. Zero complaints about mine.
Dropper posts without a remote would be interesting as you can have a much cleaner look.
They have that now like the ks drop zone but I think it would be too fiddly to use something like that with a lever under the saddle
the stealth model is now out and I'm fitting mine tomorrow!! can't wait to try it
youngando13 did you need a shock pump???
swapped my Thomson post for a brand x - the Thomson was in need of a service which would have cost in excess of £100 (not far off the brand x cost). it's internally routed, comes with a paddle (1x) style remote and a 2 year warranty. Yes it's a little heavier than the Thomson, but performance wise you wouldn't notice any difference on the trail.
that dog is having some serious fun there
primi3 👍🏻was more interested in seeing the dog in the vids. My staffy's to old and slow to come out on the bikes any more.
I got the KS eten and it doesn't work! When I press the remote down, the seat drops... 3 cm and the lever deactivates. Then the seat is just stuck until I manually pull the cable. Very frustrated.
Mad I was about to purchase a dropper post, but realised that my seat post was 27.2mm but was looking at 31’s!
Any suggestions as I can’t find any of the right size
There is one called the KS eTen integra which is only about $20 more for the 31.6mm
am I the only one who noticed you are runing a very spify fabric alm. I have that seat on my road bike and love it but I've already broke one in a crash. your a brave man runing it on MTB...
i have the ks and i've had nothing but problems, the cable kinked within about 3 weeks of using its and the lever on the bar is crap, love droppers but can't say i'm impressed. The RSP looks like it is actually sensibly and robustly designed
I'm curious about your opinion of the Brand X stealth seat post at £115.
It's definitely very appealing on paper for a 120mm stealth post. Obviously we can't comment on performance or reliability without hands on testing, but we'd be excited to try it.
It's always possible to make your cable longer and tie it to your down tube
You have the remote cable on the Eten setup incorrectly. Ie the wrong way around. The cable 'bud' sits flush in the thumb piece ... the loose end is fitted with the cable clamp and sits at the actuator lever at the saddle head. You also can roll the position of the remote on the bars so as to eliminate having to lift your thumb over the bars are you described. Rolling the remote down makes the action more like a shifter.
I’m happy with my ks lever post.. I reckon it’s personal preference and so long it does it’s job to easy...
There is an internal option for the KS called Eten- i or internal 😏
Last couple of years!? I had a dropper post 13 years ago on my MC30.
Was this filmed at Leigh woods because I ride there a lot and recognised it.
Yep! Yer Tiz!
GravityDropper came out more than 10 years ago, but they get no love at all. It is quite sad. They deserve more respect.
Any thoughts on the Brand-X Ascend dropper seatpost, a stealth routed post with "120 mm" travel at around £115?
Alan Douglas got one on my bike at the moment they are great fast response, good lever and easy to install. Definitely recommend it
I also have a brand-x ascend, and it works really well. Installation was a bit tricky, you need to cut the cable and hose to just the right length, but with a bit of trial and error I got it dialed nicely. No complaints, great value.
I have the KS Eten on my trek x caliber 8, which I bought slightly used. Being on a small pension and SS..I can't afford a $300,00 usd dropper post, which would be about 1/2 the cost of my bike. While it may be not the best, it's far better than not having a dropper post at all, And having a 27,2 mm post on a 2016 bike that sold new for over 1000,00 usd is ridiculous imho. If I start saving now, maybe I can afford a better bike in about a years time.
What is the US version they mention?
Hello bike radar
I am looking to buy an aluminum frame endurance bike. I am looking to choose between the Merida ride 400 and the canyon Endurace al 6.0.
Could you please advise me on which is the better bike
We haven't reviewed either of those, but here are reviews for similar frames in different specs. Hope they help! -

BikeRadar you guys have reviewed the Canyon Endurace al 6.0. I have found the video on your UA-cam channel. But thank you, it does help
Good point! We could have sworn that was the 7.0, but you're right - ua-cam.com/video/lfgLxUaTSA8/v-deo.html
BikeRadar lol no problem at all. From that review I gather that there aren't going to be many aluminum endurance bikes which can match the canyon?. Do you guys reckon I should go for it?. I just need expert help that's all. Thanks guys
If you like the look of the Endurace then you should definitely go for it. You wont find a much better value bike, and we love the frame too. Let us know how you get on!
these are automatically better than Reverbs because the remote isnt mounted on the top
For anyone in the US looking for an inexpensive (and Clydeworthy!) 125mm travel dropper with "hidden" external routing that doesn't go all the way up to the seat, check out the FastAce FSP-502! I'll have a detailed review on my channel coming soon!
I am stuck with a 27.2, I have to buy this. This is more like Bike Radar saying these suck, these suck.
Any more info on USA availability of the RSP Plummet?
I really wish you guys would STOP complaining about the set back seat clamps on dropper posts. Some of us need a set back for proper fit and there are so few options for setback dropper posts.
I've been debating between a RSP Plummet and a Rockshox Reverb. The big question for me is can I fit a dropper with greater than 100mm travel on my 2012 Giant Anthem. Doesn't seem like there is enough room for anything longer than that. Anyone have any experience?
I like my KS eTen easy to service mybonlybgripe is the return speed. it is on the slow side...
Could you review the wireless post please ?
Hey can you do an update on the post a year later.
Waiting for the tech to get better before I purchase
Does anyone know how long the part of the dropper that goes in the frame is on the KS Eten?
Still, for an overly glorified office chair it’s pretty damn expensive. Would love to afford a longer travel dropper than what came on my bike.
Yea. Damn I could buy a decent actual office chair for about 150 dollars!
Well you don't want it shooting up and hitting the no no spot.
What about the trans x post?
dnm post works great and is cheaper than both of these
Cant do it, I would rather pay more not to have that ugly cable hanging out, possibly getting hung up, And scratching my frame.
But i like this video nice to see what i'm up against when choosing.
could you also do American dollars $? thanks.
I just picked up the KS eTen on sale from Tree Fort Bikes for $116 USD. It shipped quickly and well packaged.
Do you need a shock pump to set up the rsp stealth post??
no,they're hydraulically damped..
Ks is bad ?
I feel sorry for anyone who is used to that slow KS then upgrades later to a faster post... 😵 right in the junk!
RSP is better!
Buenas noches tengo un poste ksa funda externa
Como la desarma para sacarle el agua
Perdón poste ks
Videos featuring doggo pls
ive been using a Plummet Slealth 125mm for a few months now and no problems what so ever..£95 off ebay....bargain..!
I got the same from j James Sheffield £99 delivered
Brilliant piece of kit
Omg, a 700gram seat post :o, come on... Not everyone is a weight whiny, not that you should or should not be, just that... It's like... Come on now...
I'm weight aware but not a weight weenie. Firstly, that is OVER 700g and I feel that 700g seatpost is definitely enough to change the feel of the bike, especially since it's located in the top area of the bike.
Ks routing is incorrect
Rockshox reverb is the best
I think you can control the speed from the remote
I don't know. Hearing from riders all around the webs that these cheap droppers are very unreliable. And IMHO no amount of play in the seatpost is acceptable. Yes, these may be cheap compared to the "good" droppers, but to me, personally, that's way too much money to be spending on something that has proven to be unreliable.
Dropper is definitely on my list of future upgrades, but the way I see it, it's still a piece of tech that has a fair bit of maturing to do.
Imo that is still really expensive for such shitty products...Either save and buy a better one or get a clamp and suck it up.
Pienimusta, ya for those prices cud get a top end light weight post and keep the weight down to climb better
Pienimusta I've got a lower end trans x external routed dropper and it works fine. I'm over 320lbs and I've never had an issue with it. I was 350 when I got the seat post. I do weekend trail rides and every day commutes. there's no need to spend 5/6/7hundred Canadian dollars on a seat post now
just buy a gravity dropper
He's such a snob
