Depends on WHERE you go to DO school. Some DO schools are tied to large research universities where research isn't a problem!

As long as your career goals are non-competitive areas like primary care, then DO school is a good option --- but with the 2020 transition to a unified residency system and Step I switching to P/F --- then MD students will have most of the advantages when applying to competitive programs like ortho, neuro, plastic, and derm

      That’s probably a fair assessment

I’ve linked a review of the school. I would say if you’re going for a really competitive specialty you may be at a slight disadvantage instead of going to an MD school, but if your goal is more to get through as fast as possible then it might work

    MD>DO

It depends, I wouldn’t necessarily sacrifice extra years just to get into an MD program, and going to the Caribbean might be riskier in terms of matching into something competitive as well

That’s so incorrect. They are completely equal. The chief at the hospital I work at is a DO. No difference, actually they may have more info because of the extra course they must take

@@angelghaemi Sorry. They are not completely equal. Your anecdotal examples (Chief at the hospital you work at, etc) does not make MD=DO. No difference as far as legality of things and the scope of practice but clearly different in terms of prestige, competitiveness, and contributions (for example, leadership, research - generating new knowledge, etc). MDs are superior to DOs. If they were IDENTICAL, why the hell do they have different titles? Stop justifying going into DO route. Just admit. If all the DOs in the entire country were given a chance to enter MD route or become an MD, vast majority of them will become MD.
