Thank you for your tips! I'm an accounting major and I just completed my sophomore year remotely. I know I should start looking into internships at this point of my college career but I'm such an overthinker! Do employers expect a lot from interns in terms of knowledge? I just feel like I would be lost because I'm so use to the academic environment as opposed to a professional one.
Internships are SO different from school, but they will teach you everything you need to know. Think of school as being your theoretical foundation and your internship is going to apply those principles to different situations (client work). They know that you know very little about actual accounting work and a good firm like any of the Big 4 or national/regional firms will be able to train you extremely well. I’d make a list of the places you want to intern. It’s not too early to start looking. Your school should have some sort of job fair in the fall that can be helpful, but I’d start reaching out to any recruiters you can find for your desired public accounting firms and connect with them, let them know you are interested, etc. So tl;dr - don’t over think it and start applying!
@@calvinator94 Wow thank you! Makes me feel a bit better about where I stand right now. I'm a first gen so I've had very limited guidance when it comes to setting up a clear career path for myself and I think that plays a part in my doubting myself. Yeah my university does hold career fairs and I actually attended my freshman year but I was pretty much fresh out of high school and lacked networking skills. Now that we're going back in-person in the fall, I'll definitely use your tips! So far, I've just been cruising on LinkedIn LOL! Thanks again!
You can work in just about any organization in the world. For profit, non-profit, public accounting firms, Fortune 500 companies - they all need accountants. You can also build your own accounting practice. The options are all on the table you just need to decide what you want to pursue!

Isn't that kinda the point? Lol
For the most part but some internships literally require experience
What is ur opinion on the cpa? I was wondering if it is worth it for me if I just want a stable career and not looking to climb the corporate ladder.
In the words of Muhammad Ali, “Suffer now and live the rest of your life a champion.”
