That is an absolutely beautiful car, I think the extra glass in the C pillars, which I presume is what the Town Sedan is, it just makes the entire green house look so elegant, a stunning car.
Hi James, thanks for your compliments on the car👍. I really like how you call the car a green house ( on wheels)! I’ve never thought of that! 😀 I recently sold the car to another Chrysler enthusiast.
I LOVE THIS CAR!!! I could be wrong about cars sold or manufactured in Canada but in this era, all small blocks were painted red and big blocks were painted turquoise. Special HP engines were painted Hemi orange. Sometime in the early seventies, Chrysler changed this practice and started painting all their engines blue. Then came the eighties and black power plants. No criticism intended, just a friendly observation. I'm a life long Mopar man and former owner of a 66 Plymouth Fury III and 66 Dodge Monaco. Both two door hard tops. I would Love to see more of your videos. Thanks for sharing this beautiful car with us!!!!
Hi David, Yes you are correct on the red paint of the engine. I'm glad you enjoy my car. Cool you also have a 66 Plymouth Fury and a Dodge Monaco. I'm sure you're enjoying those real Good!
I remember back in the 60’s what a big deal it was to get a fold down center armrest. That was an indication of luxury. There was an elegance to automobile design back then.
Beautiful car and a beautiful restoration, Henry. One of the constants of the New Yorker from before 66 all the way to the FWD stretched K/E bodies of the 1980s is the New Yorker name in script, which may have changed subtly but it appears to be the same year after year. It maintained the New Yorker’s identity for decades but as I recall it didn’t make it to the LH New Yorker, which was identified with a sans serif logo rather than script. I was sorry to see this model go away in the 90s.
Dad bought a used ‘66 in ‘67, I think. I feel it was the best car he ever had. I was immediately impressed with Easley visibility due to (what appeared to me as) the low belt line (I was just 16). I would swear that our engine was Mopar Green, but I may be wrong. A U.S./Canada difference? Dad always drove Mopar.
Hi Henry. That’s a real nice car. I stumbled on your video as I was researching 66 New Yorkers. Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I’m a proud owner of a nice unrestored example as of yesterday. These are extremely comfortable cars and very well appointed. It was the high water mark for Chrysler.
Hi Junk or Bust, Thanks for sharing 😊. Were you doing research for your classic car website? If so I would love to check it out, if that's possible please. Anyways thanks for keeping the classic car world alive. Henry
I enjoyed your car I also have a 66 New Yorker 4 dr ht with the 440 TNT engine . original car original paint and interior , In 2017 wet went on the Canadian Cost toCoast tour towing a 1947 Cabin Car trailer . i am in Tottenham On
Hi Siaosi, I'm happy with your response! You have the same car same year that's very cool! Is your car left hand or right hand drive? How long have you had your car and what color is it? My dad got me interested in old big cars when in the 1970s he came home with a early 60s Cadillac sedan which he used as a daily driver. I was a child and was sad when he had to let it go... I think I'll make that my next purchase down the road 😊
@@henryellis8248 thanks. I have a UA-cam channel its siaosi toomalatai. You can see my car. I have the car for 4 years and I hard. ly use. Maybe 4 times a month. Because I come home from work after 6.00 pm . So to tired to clean the car. 😂😂😂. Have great day mate .
Henry Ellis : Thank God the brake master cylinder has been changed. You now have a dual reservoir brake master cylinder. 1966 was the last year for the single reservoir brake master cylinder. Now you have brake fluid for the front and back brakes. If somehow you lose brake fluid in either cylinder, you still have some braking capacity. You have a beautiful car. You do need to put in adjustable head rests or high back seats in case some idiot slams into you from behind. Plus you need shoulder straps. to help prevent whiplash. You have an incredibly beautiful car. This was built in a time when Chrysler built some beautiful cars.
Hi Steve, Well thought out response. Yes I have a 66 Plymouth Fury II sedan that has just the one break cylinder. I got a new master cylinder as it fell apart. I don't like the fact of one brake cylinder. I was very fortunate that I never had any close calls because of this fact while I drove around with others in the car. A few years ago the brakes suddenly started not reacting properly. Then it was discovered that the singular master cylinder had pretty much stopped working!! ... guardian angels working overtime kept us safe! Yes I'm really relieved that my NewYorker has a dual master cylinder. Thanks also for your ideas regarding the safety of the seats. Happy trails! 😊
My first car ever was a 66 Newport 4-door hardtop; silver blue. I bought it used in 73ish with no apparent wear and drove it until I graduated college and started working, and desirous of air conditioning. I'm surprised this New Yorker really has no up-scale options like A/C or power windows. But beautiful car.
I must say mate that’s the first time I’ve taken notice of this year in the Chrysler New Yorker and I must say it the best lines and chrome combination I have ever seen. If you look after this car it will outlast you and family. I think Chrysler had pride in these cars
Beautiful car, Henry. I saw this car and the others he was selling but wasn't in a position to investigate at the time. I would have settled for either of the two 1966's or the '71 New Yorker. I , too have a 1966 Plymouth Fury 1 sedan....bright red. I have always enjoyed Chrysler products. What I particularly like about your car is the fact that, even though it is a New Yorker, and has all the extra trim and luxurious interior, it does not have power windows, etc. which might be troublesome in an older verhicle. Maybe we'll see you at Moparfest next summer, if covid allows.
Hi Wayne, I hope you can buy soon a beautiful Chrysler and yes I'd love to show the car in Mopar festival in New Hamburg Canada next year 2022!! Thanks Henry
Nice, they just make 'em anymore with any class, like they used to. lol, memory lane again. I was 10 years old when Dad came home with his brand new '66 New Yorker with the same bronze/gold paint as this. The ONLY difference was our interior was all white. the '66 New Yorker had a 'lotta classy body lines. I never had a chance to drive it, 'cause by the time I turned 16, he traded it in for a that big boat '72 Imperial LeBaron.
When I was a child my dad gave me a love affair for old cars. In the 1970s he came home with an early 60s Cadillac sedan which he used as a daily driver.I really liked that car and was sad when he had to let it go. Someday I would really like to own a car like that!😁 Thanks everyone for your feedback on my car!😊
That New Yorker is nice! I have a '67 New Yorker, bought in 2005 from Lethbridge Alberta. I live SE of Ottawa. You should check into getting Historic plates for your cars, $18 per year. Some restrictions, the main one being you can't use your cars as a daily driver...I had a 1966 Chrysler 300 2 door coupe years ago, bucket seats 383 etc...everything about that car was "heavy gauge", even compared to the '67 I have now.
I notice quite a few cars from the north were ordered with no A/C. I grew up here in Florida in the 50’s and 60’s and even then there were many with A/C option.
You have the nicest 66 New Yorker that I have seen since they were almost new... I know that 66 was the first year of the 440, standard in the Imperials and the New Yorkers. But I have never seen one painted red... What gives? I have seen many MOPAR engines painted the wrong colors usually for a silly reason... Or sometimes people just didn't know what the original color was... Maybe you know the inside story on this one? Also I am not sure about the dual exhaust being original on these Non High Performance models? Perhaps you have some factory literature that could answer this? Love to know for sure! Good luck with your beautiful Chrysler. Later, Frank Parks at Mopar Restos ,Summerville, Ga.
Hi Frank, You're very observant and appreciative! Thank-you! The car was built in Montreal Canada. the car originally had a singular muffler. The dual mufflers were added probably in aprox 2010. The mufflers give a low rumble sounds.!my mom always comments on that she loves the sound of the engine and the muffler's! 😊 Thanks again for your remarks! Henry
Thank you very much. It's a wife approved purchase 😁! My family and friends love it too. I love your sweet Cadillac! Someday I would really like to own a car like that!
Power windows on an older car like this are something that becomes hard to obtain parts for if one fails. What would probably be nicer would be air conditioning, but that was still a pretty rare option then.

THE LAST of the Six Window New Yorkers. You could get a sedan in 1967 but not with a glass C-pillar
How the heck did the original owner not check the "power windows" and "passenger side rear view mirror" boxes on the options sheet?

What kind of gasoline do you put in it? In 1966 the fuel was leaded. The 440 4v and 383 4v used premium. The 383 2v used regular.
I'm sure you would have to burn premium unleaded in it. You would ruin the engine using regular unleaded gas in it!
@ The engines were designed for leaded fuel. Maybe Avgas LL 100. Our do you convert the engine to run unleaded.
