Did it! Got caught out with a flash hail storm at the top of one of the mountains without adequate clothing, that could've gone bad! That final climb is brual too! In my opinion it was still worth it, given how long the descent was If anyone's interested and you're worried about parking there's a car park just up the road as well as one just down the road, one free and the other not.
last time rode this route lot storm damage at Broughton Forest, the downhill bit to seathwaite makes up for it,then ebike push up walna scar road down Coniston on to grizedale+packamoore back to car at blawith, going do your duddon route
I did lost of this route when I visited the area a few years ago (really need to hear back) seeing this I wished I'd done the drop down to Seathwaite that looked great. Top of walna is pretty good but soon gets a bit sanitised as you say . Having said that I was riding an XC bike and it still kept me pretty occupied 🤣. Final run to Torver was ace. Nice riding and amazing views as ever.
Definitely a ride of two halves isn't it mate (and there's a fair chunk in Broughton Forest that is tucked away and fantastic). The Out is fantastic, the return spoiled by Walna being sanitised to death. Would you believe me if I told you that it was once like an extended Garburn Pass?
Really? I’ve only ever known it like this. Although it does seem a lot more sanitised since I last walking it from the top at the beginning of 2019. The trust is only interested in walkers!
@@TrailFinder yeah, they even re-routed parts of it, took out a steep rocky switchbacks section that was proper fun and challenging. Put it this way, we used to out-and-back it from Coniston as it was such a good descent! Took Shaun on a variation of this loop back in 2019. He was loving it until Walna. He then said a lot of swear words 😂
@@TrailFinder top tip for if you do it again mate. Instead of dropping the last bit down to Seatoller, ride up the fireroad as if heading for Walna (as if you were missing out Seathwaite). Go through the gate at the top of the fireroad, over the small footbridge and then take the bridleway that drops to your left, down to Seatoller. Lovely singletrack descent 👍
@@Stopadoodledoo I’ll take a look. Looks to be some great stuff in that area. The dunnerdale ride I did last year was great. On that ride I went half way up walna. Then turned right at the gate.
I did a very similar route to that but the opposite way round on the same day. Kept thinking I might see myself on the video! The road climb on the way up off the main road at the start looked hellish. Remember thinking jesus I would not like to climb up here. I met a guy walking up Walna Scarr Road near the Quarry who said the same thing!
Personal opinion but I can’t imagine the descent off Walna to Seathwaite would be that good and it would be criminal to go up the Seathwaite descent (a real highlight, unless you find the cheeky stuff in Broughton Forest 😉)
Hey man, I live local and am learning so much from your vids thanks ever so much, I have 2 rides in for next week, this Walna scar run, also the Garburn pass run you did with Ian back in November 2019, my only option is to do them both 2 days in a row and wondered which one you may advise first, was one more physically tiring than the other? Thanks again for doing what you, stay safe man 😎
I’d say the walna one is more physically demanding than garburn pass. Both excellent rides. You will have a great 2 days. Depending on your fitness. They should be fine to do them on consecutive days. If it was me. I would possibly do the walna ride 1st. I personally think the garburn ride is better. So better to finish on a high. Have a great time.
Thanks for taking the time to reply, I have to be honest with you after being plagued with illness and injuries I have recently turned to the dark side and bought an ebike a trek tail like your mates, so fitness in general obviously shouldn’t be to much of a problem, I was more concerned about my shoulder holding up after major surgery recently, but I suppose there’s only one way to find out !! Thanks again pal take care 👍🏻
Why wouldn't you want an ebike Andy? For someone who loves to explore, find new trails and ride all terrains it seems an ebike would be perfect. I recently switched to an ebike and will never go back. Doing 30 mile rides instead of 15 mile rides in the same timeframe means double the fun for the same effort.....
It’s not because I dislike ebikes. I just love the challenge and fitness of clearing a tough climb under my own steam even if that means pushing or carrying. (Next vid I clear 4 massive climbs without dabbing. Which was hugely satisfying) Had loads of goes on my mates ebike. And although it felt fun going up hill with no effort. I think I’d get bored of it and miss that challenge of climbing. If I ever decided to though. I really like the half powered bikes that are starting to come out. Like the Levo sl and that new trek that came out this week But a the moment. Not for me
Another excellent video Andy ….love all the lakes rides you do …..and thanks for posting to allow people to follow. Keep up the great work pal 👍
Thanks Dexter. Nice to know your enjoying watching. I really enjoyed this one.
I look forward to trying it this way around so thanks for the suggestion
Bank holiday Thursday, thank you your Majesty, sunny day with cracking views and good trails, nice one TF

one of my fave Lakes rides via Stephensons ground ..Walna scar up though meh a right pain
I really liked this one. Yes agree walna a little disappointing. But the descent that it goes onto down to torver was great fast fun

Nice.. Might add this onto your Coniston loop which I did and was fantastic 👏👍
Think that would make a nice addition

Try the lime kiln road at the back of dufton pike
I’ll take a look

Agree not worth the climb to do walna and looks even more sanitized than when I last did it .

Walna wasn’t the best part of this ride. But the descent down to seathwaite and the descent down to torver was outstanding
have you noticed much rattling from your 240mm one up post?
No not yet. But when it’s fully down. It does move slightly. Which isn’t a problem. If it moved when fully up that would be
