Besides, SM Entertainment bought rights to use the song as well, but altered it into what Genie is today. Stop giving Nathalie hate, you guys. She's perfectly fine.
the original was I Just Wanna Wish, actually it was a demo and she sang it for demonstration. SM bought the copyright of the demo (song) and was being able to use the record legally worldwide. i read that she bought the rights to this song so there is no plagiarism issue guys, it's basically a cover, or an english version. so she had regrets about selling the song to SM and she release her version under the shadow of SNSD. SM as revange gave a music with the name "I Just Wanna Dance" to Tiffany
There are two versions of "Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)"; a Korean version, and a Japanese version. Both versions were composed by Swedish production team Dsign Music members; Anne Judith Wik, Robin Jenssen, Ronny Svendsen, and Nermin Harambasic, alongside additional composing by Fridolin Nordsø and Yoo Young-jin.[1] The Korean and Japanese version was written by Yoo Young-jin, whilst the latter having co-written by Kanata Nakamura.[1] Young-jin had originally composed a demo melody for an undisclosed artist outside of the group's label S.M. Entertainment. However, S.M. Entertainment purchased the rights for the song and decided to recommend it to Girls' Generation; as a result, Young-jin re-composed the demo whilst Korean composer Yoo Han Jin re-arranged it.[2] The song was originally composed in English as "I Just Wanna Dance", but Young-Jin decided to scrap the idea after both sets of lyrics were written.[3] Both versions were the groups' first singles to be composed and produced by Western producers, and had continued with future musical releases.[4][5] Musically, both versions carried on the groups phase of bubblegum pop music since their debut in 2007 On May 19, 2010, Dutch singer Nathalie Makoma released her second single named "I Just Wanna Dance." However, Nathalie sings the original English lyrics that were written for the song. What's up with the dislikes lol some sones gotta educate themselves that the beat is made by a producer who sold it to both snsd & this artist. So no one copies no one. The beat sounds refreshing with english lyrics though.
Exactly, those who said this is a COPY from snsd are obviously fake sones. Who DARES to release a song with the exact same melody? Many people have claimed that this is a DEMO and Nathalie has got the copyright. Why are there such superficial and stupid people in the world saying who released the song first? That doesn't mean anything though. And why can we not appreciate the music and stop complaining and bemoaning about the singer? She has't done anything wrong.
cookiesanddiamond if the beat is only sold then why its super the same i mean really "DJ PUT IT BACK ON" also snsd was first tho maybe she copied it the exact same thing?

This song is released after girl's generation but Nathalie did not steal the song. As far as I remember, The original composer selled it to sm first and selled it to Nathalie later. Sm didn't expect the composer to sell the song to another. That's how it happened
I love how SNSD tiffany's first solo song is called "I just wanna dance" and people please focus less on the copy right stuff, the entertainment companies and the artists have figured them out, let's just enjoy the songs and how different artists perform the same song.
+BTS İnfires Me the song was meant for her originally. She didn't steal anything. SM just bought it after it was scrapped for a while. And this is ridiculous; Demi Lovato and SNSD have the same song too, yet no one says anything 🤔 the song doesn't even belong to SNSD anyway. They just own the rights to the song, just like Nathalie Makoma.
Isn't this the original? And Girls Gen remade it? I'm pretty sure that's the case. Western kpop fans have some of the most disgustingly rude people in it.
Igot bangtan I'm a sone, but this song was composed and recorded before genie. Sm bought this song. But someone just uploaded this video on UA-cam on 2011, 2 years after genies mv release. Which makes ppl think this is a copy.
skinniest No. This song was originally released 2011.. Sony Music bought copyright to SM entertainment since the composers already sold the copyright of the song to SM entertainment.
Karina Todorova this is a straight up copy of snsd genie omg just accept that ur wrong! Its not that hard! And snsd's song was made in 2009 and this song was made in 2011! U.R.WRONG.
Y'ALL JUST LOOK IT UP ON FUCKING WIKIPEDIA AND STOP SPREADING FALSE INFORMATION! This songs was written by the norwegian songwriting team Dsign Music und Fridolin Nordsø Schjoldan. It's obviously in english and is called "I just wanna dance". They sold it to SM and SM let a songwriter write korean lyrics to this song. After the release there was a case of plagiarism by an usbek singer. This version is a cover version of Genie but with the original lyrics in english.
Composed by Dsign Music (Anne Judith Wik, Robin Jenssen, Ronny Svendsen, Nermin Harambasic) and Fridolin Nordso. The song was originally titled "I Just Wanna Dance". After SM Entertainment had purchased the rights to the song, the lyrical story of the lyric was re-written with additional composition by Yoo Young-jin, and the melody arranged by Yoo Han-jin.

Thats the original vertsion, do your research and while you're at it, even though its not relevant to this case, google the definition for 'Cover Version'.
Okay let's set the record straight. Nathalie is the original artist of the song and it was sold legally to SM entertainment which then produced Genie (Tell me Your Wish) by Girls Generation. After seeing the success of Genie Nathalie decided to release her original version. NOTHING WAS STOLEN PEOPLE!
She don't own the song. it is DSIGN who created this masterpiece. What are you talking about ? the demo of this song wasn't leaked to the internet though. She bought this song, same as SM entertainment did.
It's not even the same song .... same beat yes ... but the lyrics are like night & day ... SNSD version is about pleasing some guy ... this version is about dancing ...
People are SO dumb lol Sones you should be THANKING this lady cause she sold the song to SM. If she didn't, Genie wouldn't exist k. I say this as a Sone
Guys she is not copying GG!!! This is what happened. She made the demo version in english and sold it to SM ( most of GG songs were english demos) the only difference is that she asked SM if she could make a MV with Her demo in english and SM agreed, because by the time she did the MV, GG already had made the song very popular.
For all you angry Sones out there Nathalie didn't copy Tell Me Your Wish. The producer of the music sold his music to SM ent and Sony Music The Netherlands, she didn't copy it so don't go hate on her. And if you are respectfull for artist you know that many artist remake songs, and pay enough attention to Kpop albums alot songs are remakes of old songs. And music composers and producers just sell their music to any artist who wants it so don't go hate!!
To all SNSD lovers Nathalie actually sang this song before SNSD and eventually SNSD BOUGHT the song and changed it to genie so stop posting comments saying she copied SNSD well she didn't and neither did SNSD so get this right.
Okay everyone 1. Its not plagiarism it's called a "cover" and the song is just as much hers as it is SNSD's even though SNSD did theirs first 2. She got the same rights from Dsign as SNSD
SM and Sony Music bought this song. OMG GUYS JUST STOP SAYING THAT SHE COPIED SNSD OR SNSD COPIED HER. Same thing to Mercy by Duffy and Dancing Queen by SNSD. They bought the songs. OKAY. PLS STOP JUMPING INTO CONCLUSIONS WITHOUT RESEARCHING.
somebody has said it already who released the song first doesn't mean anything. A composer can produce a song and it can be bought by other companies in other countries and release it for their artists, while the composer himself can release the song anytime anywhere. Or, if both company have bought the copyright then it doesn't really matter when you want to release it.
Joel guaña No mames.
Jane Dela Cruz lol this not orig ver. Snsd released this song in 2009 and nathalie release this song 2010. Also this is not hers and also sm, they both bought it.
SNSD were the one who used the song this is the original and from what I heard k-pop most of the time "steal" music and make a certain remix (genie, boom, boom (momoland) and others). But music indutry is just like that.
Shut up guys she's the original even though sm ent already brought this song she's the original and it was already done before sm ent brought she just made an mv.
All of the K-Pop Fans here just listen to:

SM bought the rights for all of these songs. As in all these artists were the original.

Fair enough.

How is this possible i didnt even know this as a dutch sone lol i dont know.
BabyShawol184 thats a shit opportunistic move.
she got that somehow from dsign
She don't own the song. it is DSIGN who created this masterpiece. What are you talking about ? the demo of this song wasn't leaked to the internet though. She bought this song, same as SM entertainment did.
Hey hey!! Im SM stand and this song not copy paste from SNSD Genie,, SM bought this song for SNSD..
SNSD the best!!! 👌
To the people calling her a copycat... GG did the same thing with "Dancing Queen" :')
Vonny Erich yeah i agree to
Vonny Erich But at least they had the rights to borrow it
+Vonny Erich get your facts straight, they bought it
+Hajirah Omar I'm a kpop fan but i know Nathalie bought this song! She has the rights
Vaughnie snsd bought Dancing Queen and Run Devil Run, it's called damn business
It's not even the same song .... same beat yes ... but the lyrics are like night & day ... SNSD version is about pleasing some guy ... this version is about dancing ...
I just wanna dance ~~
I love nataly's version. Snsd is good too, but nataly have sometime...
Both are great :)
Tfw you still sing sowoneul malhaebwa instead of I just wanna dance 👀
It’s nice the original version still have a MV
i'm SONE and i like this song ;)
ok you can make your english version of genie but Nathalie's dj put it back on it's just pathetic compared to tiffany's
People are SO dumb lol Sones you should be THANKING this lady cause she sold the song to SM. If she didn't, Genie wouldn't exist k. I say this as a Sone
Wow this song is amazing i love it, i like this version more than snsd, i like snsd but i admit that this vercion TO ME! It is better
Marifer Ibarra dumbass she is not even listed among composer's list, how did she made the demo.
delete yourself
For all you angry Sones out there Nathalie didn't copy Tell Me Your Wish. The producer of the music sold his music to SM ent and Sony Music The Netherlands, she didn't copy it so don't go hate on her. And if you are respectfull for artist you know that many artist remake songs, and pay enough attention to Kpop albums alot songs are remakes of old songs. And music composers and producers just sell their music to any artist who wants it so don't go hate!!
I'm a SONE and I can't hate it 😭😭 I love all versions
This was a demo, just like all the other songs bought by SM. However, it was a stupid move to realise it after she sold it.
I'm Sone ♥ your song is very good *------*
To all SNSD lovers Nathalie actually sang this song before SNSD and eventually SNSD BOUGHT the song and changed it to genie so stop posting comments saying she copied SNSD well she didn't and neither did SNSD so get this right.
ended hag gen
ntm
snsd bought the demo from natalie she is the owner of the song so please stop complaining
SRSLY GUYS!!!! , SM JUST BROUGHT THIS SONG LIKE SERIOUSLY?! THIS IS THE ORIGINAL!
Lol. Sowoneul Malhaeba~
This song sounds eerily like Rihanna's Stop the music
You're just wonderful! I love you Nathalie!!!
I have. Abig respect for this song
This is better C:
UsakoLove Quiero ver tus fuentes :v
Okay everyone
1. Its not plagiarism it's called a "cover" and the song is just as much hers as it is SNSD's even though SNSD did theirs first
2. She got the same rights from Dsign as SNSD
But its not like cover, SM bought the song, so SM have rights to change the lyrics...
The reason there are dislikes is because she used to be in a gospel group with all her siblings and then left
This is the original song
SM and Sony Music bought this song. OMG GUYS JUST STOP SAYING THAT SHE COPIED SNSD OR SNSD COPIED HER. Same thing to Mercy by Duffy and Dancing Queen by SNSD. They bought the songs. OKAY. PLS STOP JUMPING INTO CONCLUSIONS WITHOUT RESEARCHING.
O.o O.o OMG GIRLS' GENERATION RULES!!!!!!!
How SM COULD BOUGHT THIS SONG!?
***** How did SM bought the song when Genie was released first. :P
***** Yeah you're right. Search Raqsga Tushgin. :)
somebody has said it already who released the song first doesn't mean anything. A composer can produce a song and it can be bought by other companies in other countries and release it for their artists, while the composer himself can release the song anytime anywhere. Or, if both company have bought the copyright then it doesn't really matter when you want to release it.
Estoy contigo
Joel guaña
No mames.
no seas "capoper"
Here from genie from Girl's generation, both versions are wonderful I loved both
This is Girls' Generation - Genie english version or plagiarism?
Original demo english version...
love Nathalie Makoma all haters and racists go to hell!!
nathalie just copy the genie of girls generation,...... bobooooooo booooo
this is the original....
+Mark Ejay Elizalde she wrote the letter and sm purchase the song -.-
A Jung Hoseok Fanboy It doesn't matter when it was released. She still bought the rights for the song, just like SM
can someone make a SNSD ai to this please
This ORIGINAL VERSION is waaaayyyyy better than gg version #JustSaying
Jane Dela Cruz lol this not orig ver. Snsd released this song in 2009 and nathalie release this song 2010. Also this is not hers and also sm, they both bought it.
Jane Dela Cruz Also GG version is way more better😐
Jane Dela Cruz #JustSaying
The second version of "SNSD GENIE" Hahahahahaha😂
Damn!!!! Im being sone for 12 years and i just know the original song at Wednesday 30 june 2021 at west Java Indonesia :')
Sad but this is the reality of this industry
SNSD released it first. She bought this original song from Sony, while SM bought the song I believe also from Sony for a demo, SM change the lyrics.
this copied! it's same like snsd genie
A Jung Hoseok Fanboy 2009 fyi
A Jung Hoseok Fanboy better research first
A Jung Hoseok Fanboy before talk, think first. Don't be a smartass because you could be wrong
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tell_Me_Your_Wish_(Genie)_(song)
SNSD were the one who used the song this is the original and from what I heard k-pop most of the time "steal" music and make a certain remix (genie, boom, boom (momoland) and others). But music indutry is just like that.
SNSD-GENIE
Shut up guys she's the original even though sm ent already brought this song she's the original and it was already done before sm ent brought she just made an mv.
"DJ PUT IT BACK ON" like!!!!! Tffany & Nathalie :D
🤗💜 Thank you
Don't COPYYY !!! SNSD song the original is " Girl's generation - genie 2009 "
She is the original composer of this song..
+abzxgno1 you adopt ! ! !
