I’ll never forget Linsanity. In my mind, Jeremy is up there with some of the most unforgettable events in, not just basketball, but in NY sports. If you lived through that very short span when Linsanity exploded, you’ll understand how electric New York was.
There are a bunch more. There was an american of japanese heritage that played pro basketball before blacks. Even the Ichiro wasnt American he represented asian americans well because he was so cool
Appreciate the time and work that went into putting this piece together. Loved the collection of first-hand thoughts and stories. Thanks to all who worked on this and all those who shared their experiences!
As a Black Man, who has loved basketball his entire life, during that time, Lin had Black Kids rooting him on as well like who is this asian guy doing it big for the Knicks! Our community was really excited about him as well. And I think that's important too rotate. Yea Linsanity was a special exciting time. I'm happy you got a ring.
This was great! Linsanity was incredible. As an athlete, Latino, and Canadian, I was so happy for him. Except for when he came to Toronto to play the Raptors, where he swooshed a last second 3 pointer to win the game. And now he's here in Toronto. I hope he plays well and the Raptors sign him.
What the Knicks did to Lin is one of the nastiest things in sports I have ever seen. THE most excitement that has been brought around the organization, possibly more than their playoff runs with Patrick Ewing and they just let him go like he provided nothing. He was devastated after that, his morale was down and no other team gave him the respect and opportunity he deserved. It’s a shame what happened to his career.
I’m black and I personally think Lin was outstanding there’s just a lot of stereotypes in American sports and if you can’t handle those you’ll be forgotten. 1 thing I can say is we will never see another Asian American kid play like that man. He made history and was better than 80% of point guards in the league.
Jeremy Lin is not afraid to put God first and like he said he puts his trust in Him through the difficulties. God bless you Jeremy Lin. One day, you'll be a Pastor.
Man, imagine if Lin stayed with the Knicks with DÁntoni. He could've gone down as one of the most popular Knick players ever. And he might have developed into an all-star if he was given free rein to develop. Too bad Mike Woodson, Stephen A Smith, and the CAA had to ruin that. Should've traded Carmelo for another all-star that fit the system and was a high character guy.
I think all Asians should jaw the very first person who thinks its ok to be racist towards us in real life, let its be known it is not ok. I'm not so nice and yes I think violence is the answer if the situation is fitting
As a half Japanese half Italian man, I can say as much as I don't let racism affect me, I'd be lying if I said I don't experience it relatively often. I know its not the same as racism against Blacks or Muslims, but Asians get a lot of racism thrown their way, especially when younger.
linsanity was so fun.i remember seeing his stats jump like crazy on 2k. I am not Asian, but I was an "outsider" so seeing Jeremy Lin succeed was a big boost to my confidence. He was my favorite player till he sat out the playoffs, I don't respect athletes who take games off because I am roofer who missed 3 days my first year roofing and one was the birth of my daughter, second was recovering from heat stroke the day and the lasty fault sleeping in after finishing a roof at 9pm.
You couldn't write this really!! Freaking greatest few months of N.B.A history for me. Speaking as a Lakers fan & a asian American... Glad he became a N.B.A champion so eat this Carmelo Anthony...🤣😂🙏
Okay that dude on 10:30 is being a little overdramatic about how Miami guarded him lol. Lin got the attention on defense and couldn't overcome it, simple as that
I understand, these breakouts; however, it transcends culture. We have great people like Kurt Warner, Jeremy Lim, Tim Tebow, and the list goes on. It's about overcoming obstacles. Even as a white guy, looking to overcome obstacles, I've sold my insurance business in order to help my wife create a bath and body company. Thank be to God for anyone wanting to live out their dreams. I'm 50, and still chasing some dreams.
Imagine some guy said the same joke at 4:37 today... The amount of triggered pansies would be the exact same. That guy took it in a nonchalant, perfect way.
CTHONIC: Taiwanese Black Metal. Not pro-athletes, but they toured the USA and got fans learning about Taiwan. Now, Freddy Lim in with the New Power Party. Independents winning seats in the 2018 Taiwan midterm free elections.
People are considering Jeremy Lin as a U.S. & GLOBALsports pioneer, idol & phenom, & I agree with that. But if you want a U.S.-born Asian sports pioneer that became the GOAT for decades now & will be remembered for the rest of written history, that would practically start with Bruce Lee, 6 decades ago. Yes, he showcased his skills primarily as an actor, but those skills of martial arts are rooted in sports. And Bruce, just like Jeremy, had to go through basically the same prejudices & discrimination against Asians in the U.S. Even though 40-50 years separate their times in the limelight, those negative biases still remain in today's era; perhaps a bit better now, but it still shows itself & glowering as ever. As I am a fan of Jeremy Lin, I am hopefully wishing he return to the NBA, maybe in the next couple of seasons, as he is nearing that sports retirement time in his career.
I understand the criticisms in the middle, but I think it needs to be put in a little better perspective. Asian Americans comprise a very small portion of the US population with the largest Asian communities being found on the west coast, Hawaii and near major east coast cities. For a lot of Americans, this was the first time they'd ever really followed an Asian public icon and sure a couple of boomer authors use racial slurs which is of course unfortunate, but I'd like to believe it was rooted more in ignorance rather than malice. Idk I'm a white dude so my opinion on this topic is pretty irrelevant, but I'd like to believe that a lot more good came out of Linsanity than bad.
As an Asian women, you can't really relate to facing racism and discrimination because you've spent your life benefiting from racial stereotypes. The same racial stereotypes that harm Jeremy Lin and other Asian men.
But they have never experienced discrimination in their lives. They have only experienced racial privilege. So they have no business talking about Jeremy Lin or any Asian American male.
If only Melo embraced Lin knicks would have been better.
ImEmilyThorne Melo is cancer
@@rickryan6271 😂 take your chance
Carmelo Anthony is the reason the Knicks will be bad for a long, long time.
@@Keyit0 The USA public now knows what kind/type of person Melo is 🤔
@@christinacascadilla4473 There are "Carmelo" like players on EVERY team.
I’ll never forget Linsanity.

Die hard knick fan (black dude here) Lin is my favorite player. He makes the team better honestly no matter where he is.
Jeremy lin is lowkey a pioneer for asian americans. Literally the first asian american to become popular in american sports.
who else then
yao ming
Minh La
Yao Ming isn't American though.
There are a bunch more. There was an american of japanese heritage that played pro basketball before blacks. Even the Ichiro wasnt American he represented asian americans well because he was so cool
Dat Nguyen. Former NFLer
As a black dude I was happy for Lin bro. It was amazing to see his success in a short period of time
Eddie Huang was on point... my thoughts exactly.
Eddie is a smart man it shows in his tv episodes.

JetaimeToday I agree. Great video.

yea bro I just made a similar comment I think we were excited because we know what it's like for a minority in the system
8:05 wow thats so true.
were going into black and muslim communities and hunting people down? That's the opposite of true.
Jeremy Lin is a good role model for Asian. He is intelligent, nice, and athletic. He is also handsome. Hug
i will never get tired of watching LINSANITY the movie, bec. it inspires me a lot whenever i felt that the "NBA had given up on me"

As a NYer im grateful to have to witness this foreal.
Think about some of the players Lin got the best of during that run....Dirk, Kobe, Wall, and lots of other "stars" who couldn't stop him.
thats why it was so sad because he had the tools to become a great player but sadly the pressure got to him
He is doing well again after recovering from his injury
@@yahia6563 Melo ruined Lin's career
Just here to say that he's an NBA champ now!!
Yeah I actually believed Jeremy Lin had the chance to surpass Yao Ming.
A shame what Carmelo’s star mentality did to NY and Lin.
Thank you for making this video. What about Bruce Lee? I understand that he also United many communities such as the blacks, Asians and Hispanics.
johndee759 Or "Mexicans" according to this guy -__-
We got haters... Lol
JACKIE CHAN TOO
This video is about lin not lee
A lot of effort went into making this and it's a good piece. A++
This video is great, not living next to a lot of Asian Americans and getting other opinions besides my own is amazing, thank you for this video
Nobody is ever going to forget because it was magical and Jlin is still amazing and will continually inspire a lot of people

I feel like Randall, at 9:09. Started his sentence without knowing where it's going.... and kinda just winged it
Carmelo Anthony destroyed Jeremy Lin’s career... now Melo is getting his karma at the Rockets
Thank you NYT
LINSANITY IS STILL ALIVE. I remember watching Jeremy play in 2012. he’s come so far!
I like that "chinatown swagger"
Excellent documentary! Couldn’t agree more, Jeremy Lin is spectacular and I hope he stays healthy with the Raptors!

Eddie Huang made some good points. And you can tell Ursula is pretty sharp.
Probably the most memorable moment for Knicks fans in recent decade.
So interesting. Loved that it's just Talking heads.

8:08 Just for people to understand, the word "america" here refers to "white people". This is one of the reasons why Trump won.
L M. Our country is diverse in culture and nationality. America means to me, Freedom for those here legally and respect the laws of our country.
10:40 they are serious about that handball
There were so many job titles where I was like "what? that's a real thing that someone gets paid for?"
I don't see color, I just see Jim Halpert at 9:11.
Lin was a beast
Okay that dude on 10:30 is being a little overdramatic about how Miami guarded him lol. Lin got the attention on defense and couldn't overcome it, simple as that
It's called "scouting report". By time he hit Miami he was a target as the catalyst for the Knicks offense. Normal response by Miami.
11:33 What's that strange game those girls are playing in the background? Squash with no racquets?
we called it wall ball at my school
Hand ball. Big in NYC. I used to go to street handball tournaments as a kid in the Bronx. Like stick ball. Only needed a ball and a wall.

Asian Americans on this documentary tend to over-interpret Black people and culture. The Heatles full-court press was a game plan, not a conspiracy.
Need more Linsanity, where's all the diversity..
Chinese here in ph speaks like: czhawahwah.. can’t understand anything..! anyway JL is a taiwanese..
Why did you include Michelle Yu (SNY) and Prim Siripipat (espn)? They are not Asian.
Since when lin is an Asian? He is an american, that is it. Would you call Michael Jordan an African?
Good point
Jeremy Lin is the Asian George Floyd of the NBA
This video would be better coming out from some white m black fans. Not from more Asian!!!
Why do you people love to talk about racism so much
Because unfortunately it is an unwanted intrusion into our lives. Let me guess, you're white? 'Nuf said.

This was doomed because they made Jeremy Lin a race thing

i think the more important question is why they only interviewed asian people when linsanity is something that swept the whole city.
